It's Depression Quest for this decade. Hard skip, and the question of video games being art ended when Deadly Premonition was released on the 360.
This is definitely Gamergate 2.0. Mark me dumb if you will but it is parroting it.
You've got Journos, Game companies, influencers, and more all circling the wagons to protect this.

It wasn't for sex this time. They sold out for a rich jew's cold, hard, cash.
They shouldn't have gone for the 10/10 and bought all those steam reviews though.
Indie Devs are calling it out, everyone is noticing the real absolute bullshit of it.

I think people are just sick of this and it is like the ultimate balls out on the table "yeah its astroturfed what are you gonna do about it?"
Everyone defending it is probably scared to lose money from these people.

The team sent out like $500-1k gifts for the game to reviewers and influences. Probably quid pro quo. I hate to even bring it up, but #GamerGate 2.0?
that makes it even funnier. the people need a better story for gamergate 2. the only real way to stop this ceaseless shitty game demon is to keep laughing at it and not buy the game

This """game""" does not deserve any attempt at structured thought, so I'll reject giving any further of mine by writing:

hahahaha nigga this looks so ass hahahahahahaha what the fuck this isn't even a game hahahaha just watch a movie or a jewtube video from someone that you actually enjoy ahahahahah

It's so funny how the usual suspects still act like it is 2014 and games journalism isn't considered a joke even by normies who never even heard of goobergrape. It's also hilarious how fucking fake the entire hype around it is. Give it a few weeks and everyone will forget it ever existed.

Nah, that box is easily sub $300, but that doesn't change how it's definitely a bribe.
I break it down here:

Also there's a bunch of 80s, 90s, and early 2000s shit in the "game" making its setting look like an incoherent mess that anyone who actually was alive and has a real memory of the 90s would spot as being completely anacronistic. Which is fitting because if you look at some of these journos claiming "muh nostalgia" they'd have been toddlers at most during the mid 90s, and wouldn't have been born yet if this shit is supposed to take place in the 80s.

It's like all of the faggots trying to make "synthwave" into a thing.

This is an amazing game, great graphics, narrative, soundtrack etc.
Stil, I refuse to interact with any media that tries to nostalgia you into the past, it's fake, doesn't really capture the mood of it's era and it's pretty much a fantasy version of the past, it's like if someone read Lord Of The Rings and think that Middle Ages was like that.
You have thousand of games from that era, books, literature, movies, news reports, documentaries etc, why settle for pure imitation when you can have the real deal?

I couldn't really care less about this game other than having a bit of fun watching it bomb, but there's one thing that absolutely pisses me off: The headphones one of the main characters wears all the time. They're clearly Koss Porta Pros (apparently first introduced in 1984, so actually relevant unlike a ton of other things in the game apparently), but they're backwards. RRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE

It looks like a shitty mobile game from 2019 and sounds like it's sponsored by Spotify.

Can we talk about Annapurna Interactive, the publisher of this game?
It's a company founded and co-owned by Megan Ellison, the daughter of Larry Ellison, the 5th richest person in the world, according to Forbes... so a fucking nepo baby.
I had a quick look at their portfolio. Look at this shit:

Is it just me or does all of this crap look like the same kind of pretentious artsy fucking garbage where the game isn't the point of the game?
It's like the gaming equivalent of a movie studio that exclusively releases Lars von Trier, Terrence Malick and Gus van Sant movies, holy shit.

The company's claim to fame is that Journey game that came out a while ago and got praised to heavens and back by the press.
At the time, everyone fell for it, that game was a success.
Ever since then, they've been releasing the games I've posted above and the ones I can recall, Gone Home and Stray, got similar treatment by journos, calling it the greatest thing since Pong.
I'm willing to bet that all of these games got great mainstream reviews and it totally wasn't because Megan paid them off.

We really need to be on the lookout for this company and what their next release will be before it happens so that everyone is ready and we won't get suckerpunched like we did with Mixtape.

Not sure a three over long "game" deserve its own thread but the story behind its making and reaction is interesting to say the least.
Somebody else several days ago had the same thought as you and crafted a thread with greater longevity to cover all the like games, but I guess OP didn't see it.

Watching E;R's playthrough of it. It's so hilariously, stereotypically, quirk trash. Jank animations dying to be called unique. An 80s wankfest pretending to be 90s, throwing every artsie fartsie pretentious idea at the wall to see what sticks. Cringey, and completely dependent on licensed music for notoriety (no doubt funded by nepo baby jew shekels). Of course IGN loves it. You'll see it at Geoff's gay little stage show later this year, oh they are gonna wank it so hard. Astroturf'd, the dictionary definition of the word.

There are few actually good ones in there that are actual games with actual gameplay. Outer Wilds is the obvious one, but Neon White is also a really good one. And like said earlier Stray is also pretty decent.

While I was watching someone stream this I kept thinking the Slater character had a super familiar voice and I finally found out who he sounds like.

He's brown haired guy from Pilotredsun's Burners.

If you're the daughter of the fifth richest person on earth can you at least make your walking sim game visually appealing? It's not even ugly for woke reasons, it's just an ugly game in general. But it's CINEMATIC because it's rendered at 8fps like every animated movie since Spiderverse
