That is totally in character of Riot Games to label competitors as spyware and block them from running. Maybe that's another reason why Valve's games don't have kernel anti-cheats, just so that Vanguard can't block their games.

Quoting myself from the BF6 thread, as I guess I'll have to eat my words now, because Riot Vanguard also bricked one person's Deadlock installation:

But with the numerous games and computers that either get bricked by Vanguard, or other anti-cheats that detect Vanguard as suspicious software, it's to be expected from Riot Games using literal Chink spyware.

Changes in the rankings may have been changed in the most recent update too Quote from Streamer and Crybaby Metro
"Matchmaking has been shadow adjusted to make you climb or drop rank roughly 6 times as fast. This can be confirmed by looking at the Statlocker Leaderboard "Biggest Climbers And Fallers"

People are infact gaining rank and losing rank significantly faster since of the end of april patch
To give more information on what I've read and seen and researched: ranks seems to go on a individual stats like;
How fast you're moving,
How often your active items are on cooldown,
Time spent NOT contributing to game events,
How efficient your build was,
Your share of the team's net worth,
Your Parries,
And how many souls you denied.

Ranked matchmaking ruins games. Team Fortress 2 with all-chat was the pinnacle of gaming. Nothing will ever be that fun again. Children playing Roblox knockoffs of real FPSs will have more fun than teens and young adults on so-called competitive games.

There's no point to a game and so there's no point ranking it. It's not a job with a performance review. It's not the LSAT. Having 10k Elo in Dota does not mean you have accomplished anything. Games are more fun when you have imbalances.

Also no single match of any game should last longer than 30 minutes. We also learned this with TF2 and the 5-point control maps. If the game doesn't end in 20 minutes you're wasting people's fucking time.

I agree and disagree with what he's saying. People today care way too much about a PNG next to their name nobody but them gives a fuck about so now you're more likely to run into someone throwing a bitch fit when something doesn't go their way. Devs seem more than obliged to launch their games with only ranked or competitive modes and nothing for people to just fuck around in. The near death of server browsers hasn't helped this. I'm surprised if a game even has text chat that isn't censored to hell and back.

On the other side, I don't find anything wrong in seeing yourself improving in a hobby. If you're into any hobby that has some technical finesse, either it be drawing or playing an instrument, seeing self improvement is half the fun even if you have zero monetary motivation in it. That's where games land for me and they just happen to have an easy extrinsic way to show you, albeit it's starting to become at the detriment of other things.

With the obvious retarded argument about game length out of the way, I think the super competitive mindset is more of a symptom of how gaming culture changed from having fun actually playing the game to only having fun winning in games. This kind of behaviour is not even exclusive to gaming, but in general social media just fried the average person ability to just do things they enjoy for the sake of it. The same thing happens with hobbies, a lot of people just pick up new stuff to end up turning it into a side hustle.

Sadly this is a self fulfilling cycle, people keep getting wired that way because of social media showing actual genius being good at stuff, and then game devs just start putting shit like that first in their games because that is what drives engagement.

I hate how modern games are designed. There is no internal consistency. They probably just listen to some marketing team about what deranged internet subcultures they can attract to their game and then proceed to shove a lot of pop culture garbage in a blender. A fucking unicorn? In a game with robots, vampires, demons, ghosts, flaming niggers, samurais, furries, slime people and a nigga that has an inflated forehead for no apparent reason? Why not. Just pull shit from your latest DnD campaign, tumblr and twitter feed, cash money strategy!
Everything has this abominable Disney 3d render style mixed with a hellish combination of anime and SNCA art movements like [X]punk and shitty internet trends like goth.
Globohomo, goyfeed, consoomercore: the art style. I wonder how art historians will see this shit 100 years from now.

Valve should know something about solid character design by now.

Millenials are to blame for this shit. Their presence on the internet and overall world history is nothing but a caustic strain of HIV.
#killmillenials.

Some of the designs are reaching Valve Quality™ but if you compare it to Team Fortress 2 it's clearly a decline.
My first cheap shot at pointing out this decline is how The Demoman is black as a literal joke, and the comedy comes from the design team honestly failing to make his initial concept interesting, and turning him black as a last ditch attempt, even though they were looking for a proper Scottish stereotype, ... wait a minute ... "No true Scotsman"... genius. I sincerely believe someone confused the beanie with a durag and it adds to this inside joke.
Everything is a product of it's time and Team Fortress 2 is linked to ancient (2006-7) 4chan culture, the memetics demand that some of the developers knew about the pool being closed, they knew that black people are funny.

Now if you just look at Calico and Wraith you'll see why I call this argument a "cheap shot", they are characters designed under the specifications of "the decline", it's obviously some form of "design by consulting Sweet Baby", these characters struggle to fit with the setting because they are not really made for the setting, it's just a black woman with alopecia (disabled) with a "serious backstory" about "being an assassin, or something" in a futile attempt to command the player to stop finding black people, who are now also bald, funny.

If you reply "I give a shit" to this post I will write another about the rest of the Deadlock toons.
