Aster moves in with roommates and is filthy and useless. She gives them bedbugs.
She goes to the ER like 10 times for various things. Her more legitimate problems are related to her saline infusions. She decides she absolutely needs the infusions and wants a port.
Aster spends donation money on an unbelievable amount of bullshit. She somehow manages to raise so much money that despite her spending habits, she's able to purchase another electric wheelchair and pay her living expenses through April.
She rotates through a few physical and regular therapists.
She gets a port placed.
I know you're looking at this from a munchie-finder's PoV, but Aster really seems like she could carry her own thread. She doesn't just bring the munching, it's Tumblr drama, oppression hunting, classic SJW infighting, one-sided evil family stories, DID LARP, the slow-burn bedbug body horror, and of course e-begging. This lady is an impressive multicow.

Also, man. Doordash has done to underemployed young idiots what crack did to the ghetto.

I’ve been seeing this AuDHD thing lately and it confuses me.
ADHD was really a 90s disease. Once Millennials started getting writing jobs for TV shows, it was only a matter of time before impressionable teens started getting ideas. It's just like how Millennials were all anxious and depressed because they were constantly exposed to media produced by Gen Xers.

Autism is a stand in for "unsocialized loser" because a bunch of kids were cut off from normal society and socialization during a global plague and haven't come to terms with the fact that social skills are a muscle that need to be worked.

Really the whole craze with "AuDHD" amongst today's youth is a way for them to avoid responsibility for their behaviors and accountability for their actions. They'd rather say they have a neurological disorder than admit that watching short-form videos for 6-7 hours a day is bad for the mind, or that getting all your social interactions via writing will atrophy your social skills after a while.

really respect Jordan Peterson and the work he's done.
I remember even back in the late 00s and early 10s, there was a very hushed rumour that he was a maniac for transsexual prostitutes. A lot of the whores that worked in Toronto back then had choice words about him.

Also, man. Doordash has done to underemployed young idiots what crack did to the ghetto.
About 90% of the funds that these grifters accumulate goes towards: fast food delivered via app, drugs, or random consooomer bullshit. Some of these grifters have gathered tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars over the years but I doubt any of them started investing with it.

I hadn't heard that, but I'm not surprised he has some weird sexual demons. I always wondered what tranny chasers did with trannies that they felt was better than with women.

Yeah but somebody has to write the OP put it in the prospering grounds and then we have to show interest.

Worst part is that AuDHD is real and those retards are ruining lives of real sufferers. I've one talked to an adult "mature" woman who said she'd never be lenient in any way to an autist coworker/student/neighbor even though she understands that autism is a disability. But yeah totally agree

Aster: Part 5

1777308105921.png
#saneism
Aster runs out of money again. But she loves her new port so far.
1777165940768.png
Aster thinks she has vocal chord dysfunction.
1777165875878.png

She also thinks she has spinal stenosis. And is having an MCAS reaction to her cat.
1777166001877.png
Aster is having an allergic reaction to her dressing. She informs the home-health company and is not satisfied when they tell her to just put ice on it.
1777166175364.png
Aster is in some group chat. Somebody tells her to try lifestyle changes.
Aster wants that person to die.
1777166116374.png
Aster is worried she might have to have her port removed.
1777166154961.png
April 2nd
The next day, medical staff ignore Aster's allergies.
1777166278264.png
Her recently-placed port hurts. This is medical neglect.
1777166293092.png
Aster is bitter about past friendships that ended.
1777166354913.png
Aster proclaims that she is past being suicidal and wants to live. This makes her health issues much more tragic.
1777166394586.png
Mask-off multigenderphobia.
Aster thinks she has spinal issues that are paralyzing her and that she has no sensation in her legs. She has had significant nerve damage there for years.
1777166414386.png
Aster does still identify as a lesbian. As well as both a man and a woman. Her anger over multigenderphobia spawns a new alter.
1777166465686.png
The new alter's name is Ruby
1777166541691.png
Aster's port dressing IS LITERALLY COMING OFF!!!!
1777166568002.png
She resumes talking about being multigender.
1777166623970.png
Aster then switches from Ruby to someone else so she can pretend it's not her that's so embarrassing.
1777166677796.png
Aster really wants to go to the ER for her port
1777166714543.png
Aster is really drawn to the idea of progressive paralysis. She follows someone on TikTok with progressive paralysis that she identifies with.
Aster self-diagnosis with spinal instability and thinks she has paraparesis.
1777166812470.png
She also thinks she has gastroparesis. Either that, or what she describes as "the opposite of gastroparesis," dumping syndome.
1777166894513.png
Aster is fantasizing about the progressive paralysis TikToks she's gonna make
1777166914132.png
Aster is afraid that if she goes to sleep, her infection will kill her
1777167008753.png
She goes to the ER. She reminds herself and her followers that she hates this particular ER while she's waiting.
1777167021714.png1777167190188.png1777167910987.png
She has already decided her port is definitely infected, and the ER is definitely going to decide to remove it.
1777167048631.png
She is medically gaslit. The hospital staff ignore her clorhexidine wipe allergy and destroy the evidence that her port is infected. Those wicked bastards.
1777167093738.png1777167098857.png1777167103979.png1777167109599.png1777167113813.png1777167119112.png
April 3rd
Aster goes home and sleeps. When she wakes up, she considers going to the ER again. She calls the nursing company, and they agree that she's having an allergic reaction. This is enough validation, so she doesn't go to the ER.
1777167366907.png
Aster's next infusion is supposed to be on Wednesday, but she wants to do it a day early so she feels well for PT. She makes a poll and asks her Tumblr friends what she should do.
1777167405583.png
Aster starts a fight with her online group therapy leader
1777167450779.png
Aster thinks her cat is sick and is doubting the nurses who said that her "port infection" just looked like an allergic reaction.
1777167485837.png
Aster goes back to the ER.
1777167537968.png
Aster waits to see a doctor. She is bored. Her ER count is 7. She's afraid to get covid, but she unmasks so she can eat some chips in the waiting room anyways.
1777167625825.png
Aster worries there might be an active shooter in the hospital. But it's a false alarm! Whew.
1777167681868.png
Aster makes fundraiser for her cat while in the ER waiting room.
1777167729629.png
Aster switches on the ER staff.
1777167760875.png
Asters port hurts a lot
1777167772849.png
Aster brings up the code silver again, which has now upgraded to a possible hostage situation
1777167811247.png
Aster's pain keeps migrating
1777167964030.png
Aster is making a fool of herself online while in the ER
1777168003513.png
Aster finally gets a bed. The doctor says her port looks fine and sends her home.
1777168024783.png
Aster has a mutism episode when leaving a voicemail for a nurse. She remembers how her therapist totally encouraged her to use AAC in medical settings. (To Tumblr, AAC means clicking buttons on a tablet made for autistic children.)
1777168145897.png
Aster buys more $11 smoothies.
1777168170871.png
#society if i weee a diagnostitian
1777168201222.png
Aster's cart comes in and Aster spends 5 minutes putting her stuff in it.
1777168278951.png
Aster is starving to death because she's only eaten 1100 calories so far.
1777168393409.png
April 7th.
Aster wakes up and has an illness straight out of a zombie movie.
1777168432571.png
Aster has a bone to pick with people who say that autism isn't disabling. (This is because it would invalidate her.)
1777168469189.png
She's still wondering if her port is infected
1777168542869.png
Her ear is infected
1777168556922.png
Aster goes to urgent care. She was conflicted about going because she thinks her roommate has covid.
1777168595010.png
No ear infection.
1777168627442.png
Aster is "collecting diagnoses like yugioh cards." New: thrombocytopenia
1777168703603.png
Aster has "no idea why" her walking is deteriorating so quickly.
1777168794757.png
Aster apparently got her port cultured at urgent care. It's not infected.
She's also blowing off her brother.
1777168841560.png
Aster's thrombocytopenia is genetic, apparently
1777168868109.png
Aster thinks she has confirmed that she's not lactose intolerant and only caffeine-sensitive because she ate 2 tamales, which are famously lactose-heavy.
1777168911393.png
Aster is thrilled with her latest diagnosis
1777168981290.png
Aster thinks she has covid and her throat feels like glass
1777169002190.png1777169019646.png1777169047279.png
Aster gets really mad at someone who asks her accessfashion blog about braces and stabilizers that aren't "bland."
1777169096989.jpeg
1777169163819.png
1777169121162.png
1777169196961.png
1777177536610.png
Aster tells her roommate she doesn't have money to chip in for pizza. She doordashes a smoothie. Aster's roommate surprises her with a whole pizza just for her, and Aster looks like an asshole.
1777169381599.png
Aster finds a bedbug; apparently they've been relatively well-controlled. Aster decides to do nothing about it. In the same breath, she finds $35 in her paypal account and buys a weed vaporizer.
1777169475691.png
The bug must be from the infested couch.
1777169516866.png
Aster does an infusion
1777169564585.png
1777169577039.png
Aster skips group therapy. Not because she's embarrassed that she acted so bitchy last time, but because she just doesn't like the leader. She uses covid as an excuse.
1777169622069.png
"The best autistic characters are the ones I diagnose as autistic"
1777169656275.png
Aster claims she cannot sweat, which is why she isn't sweating, even though she totally has a fever.
1777169771614.png
Aster buys a little port shirt
1777169816616.png
Aster WOULD have cooked today, but now her roommate is cooking, so she can't.
1777169854063.png
She's sooo sick with covid
1777169871016.png
Aster loses her glasses in her hoard and wonders why she keeps having crisis after crisis.
1777169889752.png
She hates her roommates for getting her sick
1777169993411.png
Aster gets they/them-ed and is not happy
1777169950838.png
1777169958452.png
Aster wasn't going to get a smoothie, but a mother-like alter lectured her into doing it.
1777170039204.png
Her cat is sick with covid again
1777170083084.png
Aster thinks most introverts are actually just autistic
1777170101341.png
Aster blocks a long time mutual. The other blogger, cuntess-carmilla/Gabriel, who appears to be an actual (but slightly gendie) lesbian, fires back.
1777170142867.png
Aster is upset.
1777170199513.png
1777170215483.png

This one is really funny.
1777170366716.png
She's still seething four hours later
1777170410695.png
Aster says bits of her teeth are chipping off from chewing on her chewy.
1777170454688.png
Turns out reinforcing constant chewing behavior makes you more likely to chew your lips.
Aster also says she has dermatophagia
1777170473297.png
Aster reveals that she hasn't seen her dad since he left the US. (She doesn't mention that she chose not to visit him the summer she was staying with her ex boyfriend, though.)

Aster squeezes illness attention out of her little brother.
1777170653531.png

Aster tackles an important issue
1777170762317.png
1777170769984.png
Aster finds out that a new covid variant has made it to the US. It's for sure what she has.
1777170796894.png
Aster tries to see if she has a plausible claim to "affected by incarceration" points. She didn't sleep well because she fell asleep without her risperdal.
1777170843690.png
Still seething about the self-infantilization comment. She will now block anybody that reblogs from cuntess-carmilla/Gabriel.
1777170899668.png
Her theory is that Gabriel thinks that only edgy goth things are mature.
1777171053811.png

Starts talking about angel numbers all the time, which is basically what girls on TikTok do when they want to larp as schizophrenics who don't realize they're schizophrenic. She does several times over the next few months but I don't take screencaps because it's boring.

(This last comment from 'obtuseass' is hilarious, what the fuck is wrong with this person)

For the record, I fully believe that it's Aster's friends sending these messages, and not her. A few of them in particular get very excited to jump on these sorts of hate trains and are extremely inflammatory and quick to start fights. There aren't that many black women on Tumblr that are both conventionally attractive and interested in Tumblr-style grievance politics, so the ones that are willing to weaponize it are basically royalty and can do whatever they want and never get punished socially or by moderation.

Anyways, Aster makes a new personal blog after this interaction.

Random bugs are crawling into Aster's room through a hole in the wall
1777271554328.png
And her mast cells are bothering her
1777271572191.png
Aster definitely doesn't want her nurse to tell her to go to the ER when she shows up the next day
1777271608199.png
Aster lets us know that she has a friend with a suprapubic catheter and paralyzed bladder who gets bladder infections every week and goes to the ER constantly. This person wants a urostomy, but the doctors won't "rEmOvE hIs BlAdDeR fOr nO ReAsOn." They're literally killing her.
If this were a work of fiction, this would be criticized as extremely on-the-nose foreshadowing.

1777272127941.png
And pours a full teaspoon of salt into her water
1777272139374.png
The nurse does not send Aster to the ER, despite the "gaping wound the size of a dime." She doesn't like this nurse either.
1777272167160.png
Aster gets mad at her roommate. Turns out it was for no reason.
1777272186082.png
At 6 pm, Aster realizes she has a neurologist appointment in the morning. She can't possibly make it because she needs to sleep for 20 hours. But she can't reschedule it, so she decides to just miss it.

The reason? The left side of her tummy swells up and hurts.
1777272426172.png
She makes a poll asking if she should go to the ER. She really like Tumblr's new poll feature.
1777272443452.png
She goes.
1777272456836.png

Selfies!

She decides to drug herself to sleep.

Aster goes into many 20+ hour sleeping comas. This contributes to her rescheduling and missing appointments repeatedly.
Aster gets saline infusions and goes to the ER a few more times.
Aster has ruined 4 air mattresses (so far).
Aster has an increasingly hard time urinating.
Next time: July 2023. Aster stays in the ER overnight for the very first time.

Apparently Aster used to use a fidget cube on-the-job while the worked as a gymnastic instructor. This got her in trouble.
1777171924470.png
"Jump guard" isn't a gymnastics instructor. It's the lifeguard-equivalent mook at a trampoline park/facility who makes sure kids aren't going off the edge/jumping on a downed kid/actively bleeding.

Protip: Hanging a liter of IV fluid from a Command hook works until it doesn't. A liter is a kilogram, and the kind of person to use a Command hook is likely hanging the bag haphazardly--tugging down and adding to shearing force.

Aster is so dirty she’s gonna give this thread bedbugs, just reading her posts is making me itch. That story about her eating one will stick with me for life. :cryblood:

Oh what I would give for a first-person account from any of her roommates.

"how do you figure out when its not an emergency when you have emergency symptoms all the time?"

Aster also talks about how she decided to confront her friend about her antisemitic art. She thinks that if she simply cut contact, her friend would tell on her to Monique. So, Aster has to tell her she's problematic to protect herself.

The nurse doesn't outright reject Aster's speculation, and says they might be able to do a nose swab.
1777338697890.png

1777338923414.png

The doctor thinks she does not have an infection and that the wound is just colonized.
1777338936476.png

Aster has an increasingly hard time urinating, which escalates to being unable to pee while she's in the hospital for a port infection.
In my opinion, this is likely mostly real. She probably fucked up her bladder by routinely going into 20-30 hour medication-assisted comas.
Aster blames her bladder issues on degenerative spinal issues caused by her hEDS.
Aster goes to the hospital and has her port removed and walks out with a PICC and a foley catheter that grows rather fond of.
Aster learns how to live with her foley catheter. She wants to keep it forever.

I’m still team (psychogenic) functional retention, but I’m also being generous with the term functional here. Because I think she just refuses to pee.

Aster gets bedbug bites from her headphones
This is horrific.

Aster's heartrate is freaking out
Lol, lmao even. The figure in that picture that reads 100 is her Sp02 reading, which is the oxygen saturation in the blood. 100 is the maximum this value can be, so it's a very good thing. The section where the ECG trace should be is flat, which means the electrodes aren't connected. There's no pulse rate in this picture.

Damn, I love Aster. She's truly bonkers.

Aster breaks off several years-long online relationships.
Aster goes into many 20+ hour sleeping comas. This contributes to her rescheduling and missing appointments repeatedly.

Holy shit woman, you really don't have any friends who would drop off a charger at the ER? Are relations with your roommate and mother that bad? The idea that an unemployed ebegger is ordering private couriers for small forgotten items is astounding.

She got stressed so bad that she flatlined for many minutes and you're making fun of her. Thankfully she has no brain so there has been no longterm damage.

Poor Alexandra Adams couldn't have one normal journey to Australia!
The way out she assesses a medical emergency in the air. The flight attendant thanked her for helping deconstruct their stereotypes against deafblind medical students and the pilot shook her hand!
I am set to graduate as the UK's first deafblind doctor. I am currently out in Australia for my eight-week medical elective and it's about 6.30am in the morning and this is my view as I wait for the ferry to go to Brisbane. This is my coffee, my morning coffee. I feel really lucky to be out in Sydney for the first half of my medical elective and I'm on day two. So far I'm really, really enjoying it.

But I just wanted to pop on here really to share my thoughts and reflections on a few things I've noticed since coming back and doing my myth-busting videos. And I think one of the big things I've noticed is that there are two different types of people on this platform. There are people who don't understand what it's truly like to be a deafblind person training in the medical field but want to learn, they want to be educated and are willing to have their perspectives changed once they better understand what it really entails. And then there's the other type of person and these tend to be people who are in general quite ignorant but no matter how much you try and provide the evidence of everything that's possible and how things are truly done, they don't want to know. And it's not because they don't understand, it's because they don't want to understand. But I always anticipated this was going to happen. It's pretty much dividing the internet and that's okay. But again one thing that has been really wonderful coming out of all of this is when people have approached me to say do you know what, I was really sceptical at first, I really didn't think that this was doable. But now having been educated a little bit and sort of had their eyes opened and excused upon, they've changed their minds and that's really satisfying because it just proves that you know my educational content is helping people and empowering people which has been my whole aim the entire time.

And I think there's just one new major example of this happening very recently and it was an encounter that I never thought that I would be put into but I ended up being the sole person attending a medical emergency while stuck in the air on my second leg of my flight over to Australia. Now I'm not going to go into details because I'm you know obviously conscious I need to protect patient confidentiality but essentially a passenger sitting very close by to me was evidently quite unwell. And I have-- you know, I'm deafblind but as I've said in my other videos this comes on a spectrum so it doesn't mean I'm completely blind. And so from where I was stood I was very aware of a passenger falling unwell and there were a bunch of flight attendants seen to them, had applied an oxygen mask and so on. And you never know what to do in that situation. Not necessarily, you know, if it's a medical emergency you'd be jumping either way if you've got the skills. But I'm in a very weird situation where you know I'm a final year medical student, I'm four months away from from graduating as a doctor but right now I am technically not yet a doctor. So I sort of pulled the flight attendant aside and I just said look I'm a medical student, I'm not a doctor (yet) but if you need any help I'm very happy to do all I can.

And it just so happened that I had my stethoscope in my hand luggage because it's a special type of stethoscope, it's a Bluetooth stethoscope that connects to my hearing aids. I had it in my hand luggage but I didn't want to - just in case I lost my main suitcase. And I also had a pulse oximeter in my bag as well. So I essentially sort of escorted the patient further down the plane so they could lie down across a number of seats. And I just got all my kit out and just started doing an A to E assessment and you know thankfully the patient's obs were stable and by the end of the flight the patient was a lot happier and well in herself.

It was just particularly ironic given that this all happened at a time where I had not that long ago released my latest video on you know how you can be independent despite being a deafblind person. People obviously commenting back saying it's impossible you would always need someone to do a job for you which is absolutely not true. It was quite a surreal moment being in that position, a position you never think you're going to be. I'm sort of ripping out my cane walking down the aisle of a plane and the attendants sort of asking me you know what do we do next, what do we inform the pilot to do and so on.

Now I was incredibly grateful that the patient was well upon landing, was fine and it was really lovely because the pilot actually came out and shook my hand and then thanked me and that was really nice. But I think one of the best feelings was one of the flight attendants, I'm not going to mention names, came up to me and just said you know thank you because I really sort of felt a bit sceptical or you know I didn't realise that you know this was possible. He obviously knew that I was deafblind because I had flight assistance myself but once he saw how I was using the stethoscope, i.e examining the patient without having to put it in my ears, it coming off my phone and detecting if anything was wrong, he was really quite amazed and you know sort of educated on actually what technology is available out there. So that was a really good feeling and I think it's definitely set the scene for the rest of my medical elective with all things disability empowerment to come. So really excited.

I have a ferry to catch very shortly but I look forward to coming back very soon with another of my Mythbusting videos. As always thank you so much for all the comments and always welcome any questions as to how I do things as a deafblind doctor to be. And I'll see you in the next episode.

On my second leg to Aus this week I became the sole medical person to lead an emergency mid-flight. What a start to my medical elective!

I’ve been soaking up the sun before the Sydney showers move in, navigating new routes with my white cane to the hospital I’m working at. I’m managing to get down to the beach beforehand for the most beautiful sunrises and I could honestly get used to these 5am starts. It’s also given me time before placement to work on creating content and more myth-busting vids.
_
As I work my way through the comments I can’t help but notice there are two types of people online: those who don’t understand but who are open to being educated, and those who are ignorant - they don’t understand, but also don’t want to understand either.

One of more rewarding parts of disability advocacy is when people come back to say how they’ve changed their minds after learning what it truly means and how it’s done - in my case, becoming the UK’s first deafblind doctor. My recent experience mid-flight became a classic example of this ‘disability empowerment in action’ when I found myself doing an A-E assessment on an unwell passenger sitting close by. I explain a bit of the story in the vid, but for me, besides the passenger feeling much better by arrival, and the captain coming out to personally thank me, the most surreal outcome out of all of this was when one of the flight attendants said how impressed they were by what my stethoscope could do, and how it’d opened his mind to the possibilities of gadgets despite sensory impairment - that was the perfect proof that demonstrating what CAN be done can help to educate and empower others.

I feel there’s a bit of a theme going on with my elective so far, and it’s exciting. Next week, I am meeting up with a local VI student and their med school to help advise how to do clinical skills and navigate placements with sight loss. I still have to pinch myself, as once upon a time I didn’t have that role model 👩🏻‍⚕️.

Annoyingly this was posted before she was catapulted back into the social media sphere a few weeks ago over her job allocations so it wasn't on my radar. The lack of chronology deeply frustrates me as this was the very beginning of her elective saga.
So that was a really good feeling and I think it's definitely set the scene for the rest of my medical elective with all things disability empowerment to come.
Hindsight can be a very funny thing though.

So I'm finally home from Australia after quite possibly the longest journey I have ever taken. I think the whole journey time was something like 43 hours in total which was really exhausting and although I really miss Australia already, I am so grateful to see that the sun is shining back here in London. So yeah, super happy that spring has finally sprung in the UK.

A lot of you have messaged to ask how I travel solo as someone who is both deafblind and who uses oxygen. And although I've touched upon this briefly in other videos, I wanted to share with you my latest experience of this journey to show what can go wrong and what can happen when airlines are not accessible and they do not provide the support that they're supposed to because, oh boy, that was certainly my journey home this time. Unfortunately due to the current situation in the Middle East, I had my flight cancelled and had to completely re-route.

So instead of going that way, I ended up having to go back to the UK via Fiji, LA and then London. Now usually when I fly solo, I use a meet and assist service. So this is essentially someone who can meet me at the check-in desk and someone who then guides me all the way onto the plane, through my layover and to my end destination because as someone who is registered blind, I can't always see where I'm navigating, where I'm going and when there's a time pressured situation such as needing to get to the gate and catch a flight in time, it's just not worth the risk.

So I have someone to help me go through the whole process. Also as someone who obviously uses oxygen, there is a lot of medical forms that I need to do and a lot of admin in advance of going on my flight. So I have to first get medical clearance and a fit to fly letter from my consultant, someone describing my respiratory condition, the litres per minute that I have, the type of oxygen concentrator I use when I'm abroad and also things like the battery wattage and battery time.

Now anyone who is flying with oxygen needs to demonstrate that they can provide 150% of the battery life to basically cover for any delays or layovers. But in my situation, my flight or my journey home had already gone from being something like 24 hours to double that due to having to completely reroute my flight home. So although I had four batteries in total with me, I absolutely needed to plug my batteries in during my layovers to ensure that everything was still fully charged, that I have enough oxygen to get home to. So I explained this to the airlines in advance, explaining that I essentially needed someone to guide or signpost me to an area where I could access a plug socket to charge my oxygen machine during the layover but also somewhere that was close to a disabled bathroom so I could deal with my other stuff before each flight. But alas, despite all of the communicating I did and all of the emails that I sent and the reassurance everything was put in place, when I got to the airport and flew with the consecutive airlines, everything just went completely to pot and it ended up being a really distressing and just stressful journey home.

My first layover was in Fiji, Mandi Airport, and to cut a long story short, I was completely abandoned by flight assistants. I was left in this very quiet, isolated corridor where there was just no hub of activity. I had no idea where to find somebody to ask for help, you know, I couldn't see where the bathrooms were. Thankfully I was sat down in a chair that was next to a plug socket but I very quickly realised and found out that the plug socket wasn't actually working. So I ended up having to resort to FaceTiming my parents who, I think at the time it was in the middle of the night for them, which I felt really bad for. But I basically had to describe where I was in the airport, bearing in mind they'd never been to Fiji before, and then try to sort of guide me via FaceTime to an area that was slightly busier. And thankfully from there I bumped into two passengers who were also flying to the same next destination of me. So it was thanks to them that we eventually did find a plug socket, I did eventually manage to charge my oxygen and manage to find a bathroom and then get to the gate on to my next flight. If I hadn't bumped into them, honestly I don't know what I would have done.

But when things got really bad was when I got to LA for my second layover and what I can say is that the perception of disability in some countries is just completely wild because the rudeness and the encounters I had from staff in this airport was just something I've never experienced before. I was at the baggage carousel waiting for my luggage to come around. I was obviously stood quite near to the carousel like everyone else. My suitcase is a very particular colour so that I can identify it more easily when I'm on my own. And just out of the blue from across the other side of the hall, somebody from the assistance team of anything shouted at me saying she should not be standing up, what the hell is she doing? And obviously that was quite humiliating for me but this kind of whole attitude continued when I then had to go to a number of people at the desks to ask for signposting to things like a plug socket to charge my oxygen, the bathroom and so on. And each and every time I had an encounter with a member of staff I was constantly referred to as "she". So whoever I was stood near to or happened to be with in the queue or who had taken me to the desk, they were saying "oh what's she doing" or "where is she flying to, where has she come from?" And I'm stood right there in front of them ready and waiting to have a direct face-to-face conversation and yet nobody, because of my disability, nobody could feel that they could speak to me in person which I just found really frustrating and just really rude. I just think there was just this very weird perception that if you're a disabled you know the two things are is that you immediately are someone who should be in a wheelchair and also someone who cannot be spoken to and I just thought wow.

And yet again as it happened in Mandi airport I was also essentially abandoned in LA airport as well and ended up spending the bulk of my layover just wandering around aimlessly trying to find someone to help me, trying to find a plug. Throughout the whole time I actually could not find a disabled bathroom so I think by the end of my layover just before I boarded my flight I was in a lot of pain and a lot of discomfort and just really distressed because at this point also my oxygen batteries are running low and I'm being really uncertain as to whether I can have enough oxygen to get me to the other end. I eventually managed to find somewhere with a plug socket so managed to charge my oxygen machine up and have enough battery life to last me the next flight home. But it was just a really distressing and you know sort of on edge experience which I shouldn't have had to have encountered given that I had communicated all my needs well in advance to the airline.

Now in addition to the oxygen machine I also use something called non-invasive ventilation or NIV for short and this essentially helps me to keep my oxygen levels up but also prevent my body from becoming too high in carbon dioxide during the day. And I use the NIV at night time but also sometimes in the afternoons if I need a bit of a boost. Now at this point I have no idea what time of day or night it is given that I have crossed the international date line so I absolutely needed to use my layover to spend some time on the NIV so I didn't feel so rubbish the next day when I arrived back in the UK. But what I thought was really interesting was unlike most airports, LA does not have a lounge that people can pay you know a day pass for. The only way that you can access a lounge in LA is if you are an upper class passenger which clearly I was not as a student. But also what was really shocking was they didn't even have a disability lounge or accessibility lounge you know but most airports have an area for people who have special assistance whether it's just a quiet corner at the airport, whether it's somewhere that has you know a larger number of disabled bathrooms, changing facilities and so on. And there was none of that so there was no sort of set area that I could find and sit in a corner on my own and attach my NIV. Again I just had to be a little bit innovative and make do with the situation I was in and managed to find a row of chairs that didn't have the armrest down, extra plug sockets, managed to sort of form a bit of a pillow using my bag and then just managed to get a few hours just lying down with my NIV plugged in and on. But yeah it was just a really awkward and open environment to have done this which I guess could have been avoided had the airline sort of you know read my needs and communicated this and put something into place but that was sadly not the case.

I was really relieved to finally get home and be reunited with my family and also my dog in arrivals at the airport which was just a lovely welcome back. So yeah managed to get home in one piece safe and sound but yeah the whole experience was just a little bit distressing and stressful and just something that I could have done without especially given it was a 43 hour journey and just felt completely completely let down by the disability assistance people. What I want to make clear though is that's not always been my experience. I've had some amazing experiences in the past with some airlines, Singapore Airlines being one of them. So yeah I just think it's luck of the draw on the routes that you fly and the airlines you go with and the airports that you end up sort of laying over. But I'm curious as to what other people have experienced. So yeah feel free to comment on this but also if anyone's got any recommendations on particularly good airlines like airlines that are quite accessible and good with disabled passengers and also if anyone's got any hacks in terms of travelling solo with certain medical conditions.

If you ask someone with a disability about their experience of flying, most will say it’s not the best - and big airlines/airports don’t exactly make it the easiest experience either.

I am forever grateful that I am able and have the resources to travel solo despite my disabilities and health conditions. It of course takes a lot of planning and prep (and a lot of wanting to tear your eyeballs out in the process). But when it works, it works, and the end destination is always the biggest reward (as with every kind of journey in life). But when the unexpected strikes and there’s little leeway for turnaround (literally), it can get messy, as I came to learn on my 43hr rerouted journey home from Australia.

I flew 2 airlines and had 2 layovers - both of which I got abandoned by ‘assistance’ in, and one of which I faced an alarming amount of rudeness and verbal abuse…just for being a disabled.

Despite communicating with the airlines in advance, explaining I needed help, as a registered blind person, to find a plug socket to charge my oxygen during transit (something I had to do, or else, run out of o2), I was left, completely lost in a gigantic terminal, and ultimately cutting it very fine on the battery life. Not only that, but not once could I find a disabled bathroom, meaning that by the end, I was in a lot of pain and discomfort, tube not flushed, bag not drained, and running the very likely risk of hypoxia. Not fun after 2 days straight of traveling, I tell you.

There aren’t really any words of wisdom to this latest reel, (and I promise I’m more of an optimist most of the time), but I thought it was important to highlight to airlines and transport hubs what can happen if disability assistance isn’t sufficiently given, and that disability isn’t always just “wheelchair” or “person cannot be spoken to directly” (as I explain in this video).

Anyhow, onto better destinations now. Any guesses on wher

I've noticed a few posts recently where her caption suddenly interrupts itself so she must copy/paste it in then not bother to proofread. Instagram has a 2200 character limit on their captions and I think the funny font at the top takes up extra.
The way back is all the war in Iran's fault. She was forced to fly the wrong way around the world from Fiji to LA to London instead of her very favourite Singapore Airlines and it took 43 hours with NO oxygen charging and NO lounge to strap on her NIV. In Fiji she was left stranded in a corridor and had to Facetime her parents in the middle of the night for help seeing her way back. In LA everyone was rude to her and wouldn't help her properly but it is a myth and a misconception that deafblind people cannot solo travel completely independently and you are an ableist if you don't believe she can.

This video is supposedly addressed to "transport and airline hubs" but it isn't, and she won't formalise her complaints, because the social media response is sufficient. The advocate advocates without actually advocating, and nothing changes for disabled travellers. What a hero.
