It’s going to kill it a lot faster this time, I think. The first Cryo release gave players weeks to build gear and stockpile consumables. We had enough runway that most people could fail raids the entire weekend, but now there’s barely five days to prepare. People will get locked out of the map from repeated failure. Cryo weekends will be cut short for the average player.
I truly believe that very few players can take a loss, own it, and keep coming back. Most people need something to point at for losing such as RNG, lag, bad timing, really anything but themselves. In games where variance plays a big role, like Magic the Gathering or poker, that’s part of the appeal. Skill matters, but eventually every dog will have his day and until then they can just blame it on luck.
Cryo is going to feel brutally punishing for the average player in following weeks, it’s going to expose the gap pretty clearly between the unemployed and regular people. People with budget kits are going to get slimed the fuck out by people in yellow kits. The normal folk wont have time in the regular work week to catch up. That whole "better luck next time" kind of delusion wont last under these conditions.
People are going to have to face up to being mediocre or shit and they wont stick around to get better.
