I'm about to the point to leave the Euros to their fate because they're generally worthless and deserve it and only the nations who want to take their nation seriously like Poland and Greece will remain. Plus even if Russia wins given the protracted conflict, the country won't be able to take over Europe.

the ruling class is thoroughly committed to a worldview of submissiveness and pacifism, all public institutions (courts, administration, even military) are made to follow that dogma, media and education spread and reinforce it 24/7.
we now have multiple generations raised from birth on a steady diet of "violence bad war bad white man bad" messaging. having an army that is capable of serious warfare while simultaneously enforcing a value system like that is just straight up impossible, it's too contradictory.
hell, you can see it from just listening to the way political leadership talks - none of them even WANT a capable military, none of them WANT to build strength and power, it's something they begrudgingly pay lip service to because america forces them to.
i believe that if it wasn't for NATO obligations the ruling class would have already dissolved and abolished the military entirely in the late 90s, they only kept it around to keep up appearances and placate NATO (america)
