I can't find it at the moment, but on /v/ any time there's a thread involving the Steam Charts site, somebody invariably posts "ban steam charts threads".
I don't know why, but /v/ has always been filled to the brim with the biggest faggots the internet has to offer. The difference between /v/ and /vg/ was always staggering to me.

Yeah the models for guns and characters look straight up ripped out of a roblox game. I'm guessing most of the budget went into marketing seeing that bungie is still releasing these hecking epic marvel cinematic trailers as the only redeeming part of the art style is the map and the way the characters look in the animations themselves.
I just don't see how anyone could be enticed to play what is basically a collector game where the only things you can collect are ugly and stupid, like being a pickup artist in Guatemala.

Not even in the top 5 now, fucking ouch

Its at #7 which is not bad at all but for an always online multiplayer that cost the GDP of a small island nation, its awful and it will go lower

Get fucked Bunghole

Man the character designs in this...
Game's full of them fortnite ass chemically bleached bunraku puppet lookin niggas. I get it, they're supposed to be artificial fake bodies controlled from a distance or some shit like that, okay, they're still giving off creepy tranny vibes. I'd rather play as a full-on clanker with lightbulbs for eyes and wheels instead of legs.
Warframe did that whole thing better IMO.

Warframe did do it better, and while still having sex appeal (Ember’s flame skin makes her ass giant, sold like hot cakes). I don’t know why the characters couldn’t just look like badass mercenaries but within the art style.

Like The dude with the thick armor, but maybe a little more defined and tactical. These faggots look like they’re going to a pretentious fashion show, not scrounging an extremely dangerous abandoned colony for mega corps.

Hosting "esports" events for a week old game absolutely reeks of desperation.
not really quite, marathon is still a FPS at the end of the day so it's pretty easy to make a tournament of it...
this is something inherited from gooks to be honest, they shit out MMO constantly in that hellhole and they make tournaments pretty quick too in hopes to maintain a population.
a good chunk of the online shit released there dies though.

Is it? I guess my only exposure to esports was League of Legends (laugh at me and call me a faggot), where everyone lost their fucking minds because the esports shit happened like a month after a new patch dropped. I thought you needed a stable game with plenty of time for a competitive scene to develop before you could start hosting events. Like how could you even filter out 12 year old shitters in a playerbase that has existed for a week? How could you even be confident that the whole tourney won't be ruined by xXxD4NK06KUSHxXx discovering a glitch the day before the tourney?

Basic problem is that everything cool is politically right-wing coded now. Hot babes? Fascist. Muscle dudes? Fascist. Badass power armor? Fascist. Loud, clattering, gritty-looking guns? Fascist. Sweet-looking space dogfighter? Fascist. Destroying the enemies of Super Earth to spread managed democracy? IT'S CALLED MEDIA LITERACY YOU FASCIST.

What's not fascist?
  1. Being gay
  2. Being ugly
  3. Being retarded
I'm not even joking. I'm literally not joking. These stupid fucks who make games go absolutely neurotic over the idea that a terbacky-chawin' MAGA fascist with swastika eyeball tattoos will like their game. That's why these games look like this. It's why they all look like this.

Based on whose attending its just another form of advertisement.

Main reasons for me were:

1. I've been interested since the very first teaser back in 2023

2. The PVP is fun

3. It has the perfect difficulty, easier than Tarkov but harder than Arc Raiders.

If Tarkov was easier to get into, I'd probably just play that instead. Also I really like competitive slop FPS games. I know they are shit but they are fun.

The more I think about this game being set in Marathon's world the more bummed I get that more contemporary IP's could have made for a better setting. Take Destiny as the obvious example. An extraction shooter set in the ruined city and wilderness from the very beginning of D2's launch. You've got powerless Guardians, so already we're working with a power level more in line with what fans of the genre might be comfortable with. AI enemies, weapons, and armor could all be drawn from already-existing assets. You want scav runs? Well Destiny has ghost-less normies roughing it in the woods already that you could play as like your Rook. Bosses, raiders, and random events? Destiny has it. Merchants to progress ala Tarkov? Destiny already has it. Seriously, why did this endevour need to cost as much as it did? It is such a ridiculous ROI to hedge on for a genre this niche, so if you're gonna gamble why not draw on your existing game's playerbase, world, engine, and assets?

Moot point since it's not Bungie anymore, but you could have done the same with Halo. Set it during Reach; you're normal ass humans running guns and equipment, most of the same points as above. You can even have that bombed out Euro flavor Tarkov has since Reach has Space Hungarians.

It's just Bungie doubling down on sponsor streams, a strategy that didn't exactly work the first time. Throwing spaghetti at a wall over there.
This was their gambit following the first failed reveal. Marathon is trying to engineer a top down marketing streamers. Which is retarded because streamers are not actually taste makers, quite the opposite. They are just avatars for various 14 to 27 year old psychopath that basically act as their pretend older brother for money.

A big issue that I have with Marathon's guns is their utter lack of distinct visual identity, which is bizarre coming from the same studio that made Halo and Destiny.

Every gun in Halo has a distinct look to it, so you know exactly what you're picking up when you run over and grab it, something that's very important in the heat of the moment in a gunfight. That design language transferred into Destiny, where all guns of a specific frame have a similar silhouette; no matter what greebles are put on top, or even if it's an exotic with an entirely different feel to it, you can still identify at a glance what kind of weapon it is and how it will act, even if you're just looking at icons in your inventory. So if you know you need a particular weapon type, you can find it with ease.

When I look at Marathon's guns, all I see are rectangular blocks that look basically identical to each other. Outside of something obvious like a sniper rifle, I couldn't tell you at a glance what any of the guns are supposed to be. Even worse, they're all so bland and unappealing; I get that they're meant to be cheap and disposable in the story, but how is that supposed to entice me to want to earn them?

Give me any of the classic Marathon weapons over this dreck any day of the week. Especially the shotgun. Especially dual shotguns. (God, I fucking love Marathon's shotguns.)

You guys think that there's going to be a resurgence this weekend or if it's doomed to die a slow death?
They're going a lot more than just a weekend. It's a Friday and the numbers only increased marginally from yesterday. The real question is to what it will plateau at. Overwatch (2023) dropped to 35k within a month but then sustained it for months and even rose part of that time.

If Marathon drops to 35k peaks but then sustains it month after month, then it's not a failure. On the other hand, if it drops to 24k peaks by Thursday of next week, then it will probably be gone by the end of next year.

When the game started development the consensus of the industry was that extraction shooters would be the next big thing after battle royale.

Marathon was in dev hell for a bit so it’s late to a party that never really started..
Which points out another flaw of AAA development - complete lack of flexibility.
From what I know, in a lot of these studios every little change requires a fucking meeting. You can't get shit done even if you wanted, can't pivot for shit. Costa Concordia of gamedev.
