Motherhood & Parenting Thread - AKA: Why is my daughter eating my chapstick?

Ah yeah. Everyone says this but idk. Most ppl I know love talking to their parents in adulthood and say nice things about their parents. Except for a few...

If you mean teens, preteens... well, I don't really mind that and expect it. Who is out here expecting obedient and polite teens haha. My Boomer neighbor said to me, "Enjoy it while it lasts cuz then they get sassy." And I am like... well, that's ok that means they're developing properly and testing boundaries.

Idk I feel like I am enjoying her to the fullest. It's the not sleeping thing and having no one to talk to I don't enjoy. I love doing childish activities like coloring with crayons and watching cartoons. Things like that...

I'm kinda mobile. Thinking about getting a claw grabber to pick up laundry off the floor and out of the dryer...

My mom is not well and my MIL lives halfway across the country taking care of her daughter's newborn. This was a huge factor of why it took so long for me to decide to have a child. I didn't think I'd have any help. But I believe in the future and want to participate. That's why I had a kid. I think it will be worth all the trouble.

The injury is minor so it will be hard but I think I can do it. Just gotta stay as positive as I can.

Toddler is in the watching the same movie over and over phase so it shouldn't be too hard to keep her happy. She also just started being able to eat sandwiches, so that makes my life a lot easier hahaha.

Ok, time to roll out all the toddler distraction activities then. I remember giving mine a colander and a pack of straws and watching them poke the straws into the holes in the colander for hours while I attempted to nap alongside in the playpen…

Yeah grandma's LIVE for this. I always felt bad about asking my mom to watch the kids but trust me. They WANT to. They live for it. Snuggling grand babies and spoiling them is the best day ever. My sister just became a grandmother and she can't get enough of her granddaughter. Neither can I as a great aunt. I swear that baby hasn't touched the floor yet. Lol.

Kids always, ALWAYS come back home. Maybe not to live. They do go through a phase where they want to be left alone. But it's a bitter sweet thing. You get the sleep you need but they keep to themselves. But everyone comes home eventually. I'm 43 and my mom is my best friend. I can tell her anything, even embarrassing stuff.

My husband and I raised our daughter with almost no help. We didn't plan on it, we just sort of ended up far away. I wish you had more help especially with your foot.

May i recommend 101 Dalmatians? It's got 99 puppies in it. :)

Do you have just one child? I think if I tried for another in these circumstances I'd explode into a cloud of dust.

I went to the ortho today. Doc said it's minor, that I can put some weight on it, but still use crutches. Should be ok in 6 weeks. So that's good!

My daughter is fixated entirely on Kiki's Delivery Service rn. I think we've watched it 12 times already in the last few days. Haha.

Ironically the point mine got way easier was when I had my second old enough to play properly with my first. You have to get through the challenge of ‘pregnant with toddler’ and ‘baby and toddler’ first but it’s undeniable that having more than one makes it easier in some ways. They play with each other and leave you alone for a bit.

we just had the one. I almost died during pregnancy and while giving birth. Having more just wasn't in the cards for us.

Don't ever introduce Puppy Dog Pals. That show is such spectacular shit. It's almost impressive how bad it really is.

I'm glad you can get up and get around a bit!

Yep, this and empty that one cabinet with all the mismatched Tupperware. Fill some up with water and a few drops of food coloring and let them go wild contained in the kitchen.

Bury some seashells in a thing of dried beans or lentils for an archeological dig.

Have your husband gift wrap some random shit and let the baby rip up the paper and tape.

When you get desperate, don’t worry about the cleanup, it will take someone a few minutes to mop and vacuum.
 
A winter one: If you live anywhere cold, get the baby bath and fill it with snow. Put some food colouring in it (but if you do be aware it might get onto surfaces around) and bury a load of small toys. Give them a shovel and then go get a cup of tea as they dig.

you can also seal some acrylic paint in a ziploc bag and tape it to the highchair table and let them push the paint around mess free.

No bake play dough (only for ages you know they won’t eat it, but it’s salty as so they tend not to.)
1 1/2 cups of plain flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
2 tablespoons of coconut oil (or vegetable oil)
1 cup of boiling water
Food Colouring
Mix it all up and knead it until it’s right. Will keep in the fridge for ages in a bag.
