But what about big projects like Dolphin and Myrient? I have a feeling you don't actually agree with what I said. The takeaway should absolutely not be "Nintendo is afraid of bad PR" () but rather that Nintendo really doesn't want to take down Dolphin because it's beneficial to them. In other words, despite their neuroticism, they don't care about the infringement of their supposed rights as long as it doesn't trickle down onto their current generation.
This whole conversation is retarded because you said they don't care about the bios files and roms for old consoles getting distributed, I disagreed, and now you are writing essays telling me your personal Nintendo head-canon about how they're actually playing 4D chess and they don't care but they have to maintain some plausible deniability to make it look like they do so it doesn't threaten the copyright to their old software. Of course that's where the whole thing falls apart, because if they actually didn't care why would they object to Dolphin going into the app store at all? Why would they care about the plausible deniability at all? They don't want people pirating their old games, they'd rather you get Nintendo Online, but they're not stupid and they don't have infinite money to spend on bullshit lawsuits so they don't go after open source projects for old consoles or every little rom site because that's like trying to cut the head off a hydra. If anyone flies too close to the sun and they see them as a significant threat to profitability, someone selling NES games in the Google Play Store, for example, they'll go after them. Simple as. I don't even think we disagree all that much over what targets the pick, just why they pick them, and we can't really know that because we're not Nintendo. The only one involved that doesn't care at this point is @Never Scored.

Been collecting more original hardware lately and I think this GBC from my LGS might be my favorite so far. I think I had a different color when I was a kid- I want to say Atomic Purple?- but I'm really vibing with the Teal and scuffed Glacier Blue GBA worm light. I snagged Tetris DMG to test the cart slot and that alone lasted me for a good couple of weeks of playing while winding down at night. Grabbed an Everdrive GB x3 because I don't really care about save states or RTC and popped in some classics- weird-ass Super Mario Land 1 and 2 alone unlocked some core memories and now I'm convinced Gunpei Yokoi was a genius (RIP). Probably gonna add Pokemon Yellow and Oracle of Seasons/Ages next for more warm fuzzies.

I had teal as a kid and was extremely jealous of my friend with an atomic purple, was even jealous of a friend that had a cool looking extreme green game boy pocket.

Now I have a the fairly rare clear midnight blue gbc and a daiei hawks clear orange/black unit, as well as a clear red FPGBC and yellow ModRetro Chromatic.

Pocket had a far better screen than the original GameBoy. Less smearing, more of a proper black pixel color than the spinach screen on the O.G. and better battery life would be the reasons I would go Pocket over original.
Oh for sure (though I love me some chonky DMG form factor). For context, we were talking about GBC and Pocket

Ooh now I’m curious, why?
They look better there than on GBC, even if you use a grayscale color palette that does white/black & two grays, the natural screen they're really more like 4 different shades of gray, and the darker colors leave a bit of a shadow behind them. Game effects look better on the older screens.

Plus GBP screens are easier to see in normal lighting conditions vs a non backlit GBC.

I did a drop in IPS replacement in my GBC years ago and would never go back, personally. I started with one that wasn't pre laminated, and that was a disaster because some dust and hairs got in there. A few years later, I got a nice Retro Pixel prelaminated one that's 25% bigger and it's very nice to use.

Considering how few Color exclusives there are, I’d still go with a Pocket for screen clarity.
Well, fuck, I guess I need a Pocket now

Is the Chromatic worth it? I've read that it looks a lot better than the drop in screens, but it costs so much.
The Chromatic screen makes all the mods look like a joke, it's insane the level of detail they put into making it identical to the original but with a backlight, and as much as I like the original on a sunny day outside in the summer the Chromatic screen is bright enough that it looks good in direct sunlight and even beats the original there. And the build quality is great.

It was worth it for me because many of my favorite games are GBC games, I don't expect that to be the case for a lot of people but the Dragon Warrior Monsters games, DW1+2 & 3, Pokemon Gold/Silver, and Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons were a big part of my formative years and I really love the aesthetic of GBC games

Same really except a generation earlier. Lots of road trips with Mario Land 2, Wario Land, DK '94, Kirby's Dream Land, Dr. Mario and Link's Awakening. I can't believe how much time I spent staring at that baby shit green colored screen.

I remember being on nighttime car rides and waiting for a streetlight to pass so I could move in Super Mario Land. Now if my PC monitor flickers under 10k hz I get a headache and I love sperging about shit like pixel perfection and motion blur. It’s a wonder looking back that we were content, impressed even, by those shitty screens
