Iran’s overall strategy is retarded but I don’t think their tactics here are so bad. They just want to make this as inconvenient as possible. Destroying that airbase would make Iran less accessible to Western countries. And what’s the risk to them anyway? They’re already fighting America directly. At worst America’s junior allies like England or Greece jump in but it doesn’t really make their situation any worse. In fact, it might improve the Muslim persecution complex optics on their end and get them some easy kills if the English are dumb enough to fly a Typhoon into Iran.
Attacking Saudi Arabia and Qatar’s energy infrastructure is just tit-for-tat after America started blowing up Iranian oil refineries. If they cost the Arabs enough, they might actually ask the Americans to stop. Hurting Gulf countries in response to America hurting Syria is pretty much the only door open to Syria. Kind of sucks for them but they aren’t entirely innocent in this.
The reason you don't do these things is random attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure is a warcrime. These drone and missile commands are largely operating unsupervised by higher command.

if the US was going to invade there'd have been massive troop deployments and a calling up of reserves. all of that would take months. you'd need at least 500,000 combat troops for a decent invasion.
