People today are just as capable of buying houses. They mostly choose to spend their money on dumb things they consider "essential" but that aren't. You can buy kit houses on Amazon today just like you could back then.

Seriously, here is a 1200 sqft house on Amazon for $9k.


So the problem is not that people can't afford houses. The problem is people think what they can afford is beneath them. And rather than scrimp and save and build from a modest start, people blame everyone but themselves for their lot in life.

"If you didn't buy so much starbucks you would be able to afford a house." That's the most boomer take I've seen here. Every single metric available shows that the median price of a home has far out paced the median income.

What was your first car? A Ferrari? Mine, and most people I know, was a shitbox I got for a few hundred and fixed until I could/had to upgrade. Unless your first house was a tent under a bridge I can't see it being less expensive than a car.

3 acres of land for $2,000.


$2,500-$30,000 to have utilities connected on your land.

So, $9,000 for the house, hell let's say $20k for the land, $30k for utilities. That is multiple acres of land and a house on it for $59k. That is 41% less than the $100k you think is impossible to do. You can spend $50k on the actual house and still hit your $100k budget.

Most people are paying exorbitant prices because everyone else did all the work and thinking and searching for you. It's not impossible in the slightest.

I don’t think I need to tell you that every country that has ever existed has been built over conquered land and used slavery. Heres a fun fact china didn’t legally abolish slavery until 1910. And funny thing is only Americans give a shit about having to apologize and apostate themselves for their countries sins. Go to Mongolia and see how the people there treat Genghis khan, they treat that guy like a hero they don’t care if he did horrible shit to other people and nations, they don’t give a shit. He’s a hero to them. This same sentiment can be applied to every other country that isnt a western one. Again back to the slavery, how do you think the great wall of china was built? How do you think Rome was built? Slavery isnt good but every country ever built has been built off slavery in some way “oh but America fought a war over slavery” it’s funny to me how modern Americas treat the civil war more seriously than the people who fought in the civil war did.

I said 'new ' for a reason. My first car was a $3k Subaru. My first house cost 35k in 2012 and was pretty shit, but within walking distance to campus, so it sold for just over $100k. I only got my first new car in 2024 (so the comparison in price isn't the most fair thing in the world) and it was kind of a fun car rather than something I needed, but nothing crazy.

You can always buy a house in Detroit for around $300 dollars and fix it up yourself if you have the know how.
The only problem is good luck with emergency services and grocery stores, gas stations, et cetera in a 30 mile radius.

I get the sentiment, but some guys on this site talk about women so abhorrently and then wonder why they're single. Women don't want to date men who treat them like the enemy.
