You can buy a house for under $100k in 2026 too. People in the past had to do more with less. They didn't spend 50+ dollars every day on fast food and starbucks, didn't have it delivered to their doors, etc. Life was significantly less convenient back then.
People are all habituated to seeing these boomer investment homes where a person buys a house and then spends the next 30-50 years fixing up and improving it until it's worth a mint. Used to be a home was small and people would not spend all their free time inside of them. That said, joke's on the boomers who made their $30,000 home into a $1.3m investment that no one can afford to buy.
