Many pop-urbanists and other pop-experts seem to have this near religious/quasi-secular hatred of the South if they're talking about America's problems. They will endlessly spew bile and hatred about the South being this backwards and awful place through my terrible experiences conversing with several kinds of these people in real life.

It's like this acceptable secular version of Hell where all the misfortune and bad ideas spring forth from. They'll giddily claim that their city or states public transit and urban planning is terrible, but that's because 'the South did it first!' or that apparently the evil racism of the North was only made manifest because of Jim Crow transmuting its way north like some pre-modern 5G wave. Is there something wrong with America? It's probably from the South! It's weird they'll gloat about winning the Civil War (since they're usually Northerners) but then they'll become Jefferson Davis's most ardent supporters because if only the South was excised from the US then it'd be this progressive and forward utopia.
This extends to rural America as well, I've had the misfortune to talk to a lot of those same people who genuinely believe every small town far enough away from the interstate is still basically a sundown town.

oh absolutely, but there's a certain switch that gets flipped in some peoples heads when I say I'm from the South or talking about the South. It's not everyone up here but I've noticed a few people through college that just have this nasty little switch that seems to flip and they assume the instant worse case scenario for shit like Alabama or Mississippi.

Iowa and the Dakotas being rural shitholes, thats normal stuff, whatever. they've never heard of Des Moines or care about it. They'll gladly talk about imposing rules and regulations on Midwestern farmers across the board for daring to drive a pickup truck all day. They'll be a little peeved or annoyed but it's the same annoyance as one would have a random fly in your room.

Mississippi or Alabama? Oh hell no, everyone gets down there on the Niggerwhipper 5000 and gladly snorts meth while flippantly fellating Trump and Hitler. There are no cities down there and if there are they're the 'only good places' in the South (tell me more about how you've never actually been to Birmingham or Jackson). It seems to devolve to them trying to contain their anger or at the least politely seething through their teeth.

They're just racist and classist.

This is normal around the world:

I have taken plenty of busses in Taiwan, the passengers are quiet, but the beeps of proximity alerts, announcements of stops in both Chinese and English, the driver screaming at passengers makes it a very noisy experiance. I don't think there is such thing as a quiet bus.

3. Secretly racist. The New Orleans population is still 53% black, despite dropping in recent years (white and Hispanic, mostly).
Nahlins also has a skyhigh violent crime rate, and IIRC the highest per capita rate of violent crime of any city in the US, and they also IIRC lead the US cities in crimes committed against tourists.

I hate to say things but I love New Orleans vs New York, it's just a different feel. Plus normal being being able to be armed in NoLa make the crime rate a whole lot better psychologically vs NYC.

Plus, I think NYC is full of people judging you.

5. New Orleans is a shithole and proof that all their theories (eyes on the street stop crime, density creates third places, cities subsidize suburbs, etc.) are wrong.
There are many examples around the country that prove their theories wrong. Everything from St. George, Louisiana to the collapse of the FSK Bridge helped prove those wrong. Just looking around at an average American metropolitan area and their beliefs is proof they're living in a fantasy world.

Tommorow is Valentine's Day. /r/fuckcars is coping about being single:
Why do I get the feeling that there's some master-level trolling going on at Amtrak...?

/r/fuckcars member rides the bus and hates the in-ride entertainment:
Transit lover posting the Ls. When I'm in my car I can listen to anything I want. Even if Tyrone or Paco pulls up next to me with shitty bass beats that causes everything in my own car to vibrate, it's only for a few moments and I've already forgotten it 10 minutes later.

But be afraid, because even Democrats don't like us:
I was thinking the better example would be how unpopular road diets are even in the bluest parts of cities.

It's just too much of a corrupt shithole.
New York is also a corrupt shithole. Maybe not as much as NOLA but if you're willing to suck off every convenience store with a griddle and running water, then you should give New Orleans a chance. It sucks, but sucks in new and different ways.

The "eternal tourist" mindset of these people means that if it benefits them and not locals it's still a win. They'll be happy that some road somewhere in town gets a "road diet" and then when the locals complain—that the addition of medians or the loss of street parking or however things are altered, affect their livelihood, they bitch about how selfish they are, because how dare people want control of their own neighborhoods.
Of all the chunks of crap floating in the septic tank of a mind that your progressive/futurist posesses?

The most pernicious is the notion that a person who lives in a given area is uniquely unqualified to have a say in how it's run.

I wonder how many of these redditors even go out and party enough that drunk-friendly transport is needed.
Critical research failure, you can get DUI on a horse.

They count as vehicles under the law. At least one Amishman makes the papers here every year for being DUI in his buggy.

You can ALSO get a DUI for sleeping drunk in your car if you leave the keys in the ignition or in arms-reach, as you still count as "in control" under the law, depending on jurisdiction, some are more strict than others. Mine's pretty strict. Being drunk and asleep in a car can net you a DUI if the keys are anywhere inside the driver/passenger compartment, you'd only be safe if you tossed them in the trunk or out the window.

Granted, it's not likely, and you'd have to roll a nat "1" and get "that" cop.

But, again?

At least once a year? Someone sleeping it off in a bar parking lot gets a DUI because the keys were in their pocket, even though the car was shut off. I agree that that's bullshit, but, that wasn't the point, point is, surprise, another vocal critic of "A" for political reasons actually has no idea about how "A" works.
Nahlins also has a skyhigh violent crime rate, and IIRC the highest per capita rate of violent crime of any city in the US, and they also IIRC lead the US cities in crimes committed against tourists.
They also have an incredibly corrupt police department.

Corrupt by southern standards....

As well as by urban standards...

Corrupt to the level that mid-ranking officers are running drugs and killing people who snitch on them.

They've tried to clean it up several times, but, it always regresses to the mean as anything that actually makes crime go down and the cops be less corrupt is inevitably dismantled by the usual suspects as "institutional racism".

Lmao that ad doesn't even make immediate sense
The liberals who want start/stop buttons to save gas, depicted realistically as obese lesbians with blue hair, nose rings, and tattoos, are overheating in their car because their car has no A/C since the engine is shut off. They're also slow to pull away after the light turns green because they need to wait for their engine to turn back on.

The Trump voter, depicted realistically as a hot blonde woman, has none of these problems and enjoys a cold Mexican Coke as she effortlessly pulls away in her ICE sports car.

Auto stop-start is planned obsolescence bullshit to wear out the starter faster. At least there's usually a way to disable it but it's better to just officially get rid of it.

The White House spent a fortune on this meme:
Their idea of money is insane, where $2.3B for a major highway project is "one more lane" and will do nothing but $230B for a train line is worth every penny. It doesn't matter if you come up with a comparison on how little this was spent vs. some of the Biden-era PSAs.

And guess what kind of people are doing that on those busses. Hint: It's not the native populations. Flixbus is notoriously cheap and thus usually full of migrants of all colors (although the predominant color is brown) and it's usually them who have no etiquette when it comes to loud video calls and such.
Busses, trains, all public transport can be nice and pleasant if it wasn't for shitty people ruining it for everybody.

One has to remember that these people are very much spite driven. It's the reason why they went after the statues after 2016 because they wanted to punish and humiliate their enemies for voting wrong. They support gun laws specifically because they believe it will be used to punish their enemies. Importing infinite bomalians? Punishment for being on the losing side of the civil war. Renaming everything when given any amount of power? Explicit spite. In a funny way, they are hyping themselves up to do some Radio Rwanda shit. As retarded as they are, do remember that they are also very much doing all this out of malice.
