Not to seem like a clock since I'm sure this is said all the time, but as someone who hasn't watched a full SMG4 video since like...their first fnaf one, I can't imagine how a "dumb fun" series about super mario 64 models in either the game or gmod calling each other retarded mutated into some weird, corporate proto-TADC with its own OCs and arcs or whatever this shit I occasionally see is.
When smg4 started adding non mario stuff to the videos to reference trendy stuff, it just started becoming content farms with slurs, then they added default inkling model and created a more serious arc for her to go against the grain and the rest is history.
The first Meggy focused videos sticked out like a sore thumb, I remember dropping the series right after the second one.

For me, Classic SMG4 lasted between "Hotel Mario" to "If Mario Was In... Starfox (Starlink Battle For Atlas)" (inclusive).

The last time I watched SMG4 was around the introduction of Meggy (2016? IDK); I just grew out of it around that time. Hearing what SMG4 has become feels rather absurd; it's like if the Ship of Theseus also got turned into a wagon at some point.

What do you mean those funny SM64 machinimas I used to watch a decade ago became serialized? Why the fuck is there lore?

Why are there, like, a million OCs that do not like anything from a Nintendo game, let alone a Mario one? Why is there so much porn of them?

Why is there suddenly a whole production team? Didn't this used to be produced by a guy? Why is there voice acting?

Why did they turn something full of slurs and rape jokes kid-friendly?

AVGN.jpg
What were they thinking?

Whenever I hear someone talking about the new characters and the "arcs" modern SMG4 apparently has, it feels like something you would see in a fanon wiki on Wikia. The more I learn, the more confused I become since I still can't fathom how something simple like SM64 bloopers could become this much different.

At least we got Glitch out of this mess in the end, which went from being a project kept alive by Australian taxpayer money to something capable of producing arguably okay cartoons.

For some reason, the GLITCH productions logo has always reminded me of the insignia used by the 3rd SS Panzer Division "Totenkopf."
Glitch_Productions_Logo.png 3rd_SS_Division_Logo.png
This inspired me to combine the two because I'm an edgy sperg with image editing skills.

Feel free to do whatever you want with this.

Fun fact: the word "glitch" most likely comes from either the German "glitschen," meaning "to slip," or the Yiddish "glitshn," meaning "to slide."

It's honestly quite bittersweet to see a show i actually liked back in the day end... but it's definitely for the best.

I'm still upset that they let SMG4 decline so terribly, but I'm glad the series is finally resting in peace, and I'm really glad they didn't make a video about the Great Meme Reset. Knowing the shit they've done with internet trends in the past, that would have been embarrassing.

I need someone to remake that render with the old designs, I’ll never get used to Modern SMG4 and SMG3’s faces, or to all the 2D characters being 3D. I appreciate that X and FM54321 are still Mario recolors, because it could have been worse.

It’s a shame that MarioMario54321 isn’t here. I know why they can’t use the other Mario recolors, their respective creators retired a long time ago and that’s why they can no longer use their characters. But MM54321 is still active and is a very important Super Mario 64 machinima creator with a career spanning over 18 years. I wonder why they didn’t call him.

Even so, he still said goodbye on his channel.

Excuse me if I sound salty, but I’m still not happy that they left SMG4 in such a terrible state. I’m still bothered by the number of bad decisions and missed opportunities the series had since 2018, and I don't think I'll ever get over it, so you'll still see me complaining about Modern SMG4 from time to time. The fandom is damaged beyond repair and I don't think it will ever get better.

I would have preferred that SMG4 had ended many years ago. If you ask me, I think the best point for the series to end would have been the Waluigi Arc in 2018. 2018 was the first true year of Modern SMG4, and it was also Modern SMG4's best year. The Waluigi Arc would have been the perfect point for the series finale, given that it was the very first time the series had a large-scale epic storyline, and it would have made the finale feel special. And while it had its flaws (it was during those episodes that the forced emotional moments began), it still felt like SMG4, since it wasn't until 2019 with the Anime Arc that the melodramatic serialized episodes began. And it was in 2018 that production on Meta Runner began, so it would have served as a farewell to SMG4 and the birth of Glitch Productions.

One positive aspect of SMG4 finally ending is that now we can judge everything fairly without any speculation, theories, or hope for what’s to come. And despite how shitty Modern SMG4 was, it still managed to have a better finale than Stranger Things. I prefer that they ended the series rather than it continuing forever like The Simpsons and Family Guy, because it was very clear that it would never be Glitch's priority again.

I won't deny that I had a great time with this series back in the day. And to think that 10 years ago, I eagerly awaited every upload of each new SMG4 video. Those were the days. I'll never forget them. If anyone is interested, I'll leave some links so you can see what the SMG4 channel was like during its Golden Age, and for those who lived through that time, to remember what things were like back then. I will always be proud to have lived through the Golden Age of SMG4.

Now, moving on to a completely different topic, I recently found out that Ayy Lmao, Vivziepop and Glitch's news channel and proud Indie Enthusiast, uploaded a short saying that Glitch plans to pick up more indie shows, not just Lackadaisy, which means the possibilities are endless. With that said, he proceeded to list four shows that he believes could be part of the Glitch family.

I'm going to give my opinion on each of Ayy Lmao's choices, and then I want to read yours. It's great that Ayy Lmao put the transcript of the short in the description, so I can copy and paste everything he says about each series.

The thumbnail gave away the first show, and this one needs no introduction here.

1- Cliffside

Up first we have Cliffside. It was an animated western comedy made by Liam Vickers, the creator of Murder Drones. It’s pilot debuted in 2018 getting over 17 million views, making it the 7th most viewed indie animated pilot on all of YouTube. It was unfortunately shelved so that Liam could work on Murder Drones. In 2020 he announced the project was cancelled.

I've been reading this thread for months, and knowing what everyone thinks about Murder Drones, I think we can all agree that they shouldn't pick up Cliffside. I think it's better if it remains as a one-off thing.

I have 3 reasons why Glitch shoudn't pick up Cliffside:

1) Liam Vickers is a bad writer.

2) I think it's too late for Cliffside to shine as a full series. You see, when Cliffside premiered in 2018, having a complete animated pilot on YouTube was considered a novelty. Keep in mind that Cliffside predates Hazbin Hotel by a year. But we now live in the post-TADC world, and that novelty has worn off, as many more professionally produced pilots are released every month. And with almost 8 years without updates, Cliffside has simply faded from the public consciousness, lost all the cultural relevance it once had, and its fandom is deader than the Meta Runner fandom. The only people who still care about Cliffside are Indie Enthusiasts and very hardcore Murder Drones fans, which brings me to my next reason.

3) It will always be unavoidable compared to Murder Drones. Liam Vickers' name is now forever tied to Murder Drones, and if Cliffside gets greenlighted, then people will not stop comparing the two shows and will say things like Murder Drones does something better than Cliffside and that it doesn't reach the standard that Murder Drones has. Murder Drones has massively overshadowed Cliffside, and will probably overshadow anything Liam Vickers creates. Even TV Tropes refers to as Cliffside as "an animated pilot created by a pre-Murder Drones Liam Vickers". It would be more viable for Glitch to make Murder Drones Season 2.

Fun fact: People asking Glitch to pick up Cliffside isn't anything new, and I have proof. Remember that Murder Drones fan sequel comic with the artist's self-insert that I found on Pixiv and uploaded here last year? It turns out the guy made a mockup of a Cordie plushie produced by Glitch years ago, and checking the upload date, it was uploaded in September 2023, a whole month before Digital Circus' release.

Notice how the design is based on the official SMG4 plushies.

Which in turn are based on this Hatsune Miku plushie design.

2- Ramshackle

Second is Ramshackle. The pilot came out in 2024 and it was an adaptation of the webcomic by the same name made by Zeddyzi. It’s a comedy series about 3 downtrodden misfits. Work is still being done on it behind the scenes, but a lot of fans are wondering what's next. I think this one would be right at home along with Glitch’s other selection of shows.

Like Lackadaisy, this one is also based on a webcomic, but it's not as ancient as Lackadaisy, since it was first created in 2020, so it's basically from this decade. The animation is decent, the character design is okay (except for a few characters that look like they were ripped from Flapjack or Smiling Friends, I think that's intentional), the humor is very hit-or-miss, and it has a quirky, self-aware writing. Personally, I think this pilot is alright, I mean, it didn't make me laugh, but I didn't think it was bad either. I'm indifferent to it.

If you're interested, here's the link to the original Ramshackle comic: https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/ramshackle/list?title_no=562732

3- Catching Up

Third is Catching Up. It also came out last year and tells the story of two best friends Rob and Clay in high school. It was made by LS Mark, and episode 2 is nearing completion. This show has a ton of potential, so i think partnering with Glitch would help it immensely.

No, not this one. I found this pilot uninspired and boring. I don't know what Ayy Lmao means by "this show has a ton of potential", it's just Furry Slice of Life, it's not an innovative or mind-blowing concept, hell, it's not even a creative concept.

Screenshot_2026-01-04-17-32-15-99_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12~2.jpg

Is this what happens to the minds of the Indie Enthusiasts when they think too much about "Indies Good, Corpos Bad"? Because if this were a pilot made by corpos, it would be frowned upon by them for being boring and unoriginal, but since it's indie, then "this show has a ton of potential".

Furthermore, this is my personal opinion, but I think cartoon reviewers are terrible cartoon writers, because it's clear that LS Mark doesn't know how to write a genuinely entertaining cartoon, and this is supposed to be the show that's supposed to be on par with Digital Circus and Murder Drones. Okay, I think I'm being too generous with both shows, since we know they're far from good, but at least they're not boring, unlike LS Mark's show.

I'm going to go off-topic for a moment because I want to complain about another pilot to validate my point that cartoon reviewers are terrible cartoon writers. Another cartoon reviewer, RebelTaxi, also made a pilot.

This is the definitive proof that Indie cartoons always put more effort into the animation than the writing, because the animation of this pilot is really good. This thing is supposed to be like Pokemon, but the Pokemon have different animation styles, which is a really interesting and creative concept, and it immediately makes it superior to Catching Up. It's a shame that the convoluted writing ruins any potential this pilot might have. The worldbuilding is very confusing, there's unnecessary exposition, and the pacing is quite poor. Loki IRL is better than Catching Up, but still not a very good pilot. They already tore this pilot apart in the RebelTaxi thread, and by the way, I got these screenshots from there.

1757995047283.webp

I hope I never have to hear about Catching Up again, and I hope LS Mark abandons this project...

Oh shit, he actually continued it.

4-Monkey Wrench

And lastly we have Monkey Wrench made by Zeurel. It’s a science-fiction Action Adventure series that’s on it’s 5th episode. It’s also been praised before by creators like Gooseworx and Dana Terrace. Recently Zeurel talked about how the YouTube algorithm refuses to promote the show, and when asked if they would like to be picked up by Glitch, the account replied that they’ve tried 4 times and got denied.

I've talked about this one before, and it turns out I was right that, this guy wanted to pull a Lackadaisy and join Glitch Productions. Well, just from this it was obvious that he wanted this.

Of all the series that Ayy Lmao mentions in his video, this is the one with the most episodes, and in my opinion, this is the best on the list. I'm not into Monkey Wrench, but I wouldn't mind if Glitch acquired this series. However, the fact that they rejected Monkey Wrench four times surprises me. I wonder what makes the Lerdwichaguls think Monkey Wrench isn't worthy of joining Glitch.

Personally, I think that one pilot that could benefit from the Lackadaisy treatment is The Art of Murder.

The animation is very good, and the concept is interesting; it's basically Toy Story but with drawings that come to life instead of toys. The studio that made this is also Australian, and they have Lizzie Freeman in the cast. What do you think?

You say that, like that's a high bar. :story:
I mean, I guess maybe to the retarded children that think Murder Drones is Citizen Kane, maybe, but to anyone with a functioning brain Murder Drones is pretty dogshit. It looks nice, it's a gilded turd, but still a turd.
It wouldn't take much to surpass it, at least in the writing department.

If Liam realizes that he should work with a more competent and experienced writer, then I won't be against Glitch picking up Cliffside. After all, Liam has admitted that the plot for Murder Drones needs some more work.
If true then I have respect for him for realizing he's a shithouse writer. That takes self reflection which is sadly absent amongst a lot of modern creatives. I really do think he's one of those creatives that needs a wrangler to make something good, like George Lucas, or Hideo Kojima. Hopefully his next project is actually good because he has someone to filter his ideas through to make something that isn't a schizophrenic mess.

I wonder why they didn’t call him.
he made a video blaming smg4 for his channel not being popular and he has a meltdown over tadc. i guess this sm64 machinma community showed fm the video. He privated it but i'm sure someone has an archive somewhere. MM also made a video a few years ago cursing at smg4 in morse code because he didn't use his collab entry so he's hated by the smg4 community

Dear friend of mine likes TADC, so I'll get her some of the merch for her birthday. The only orginal character I remotely like is Bubble ironically, since he's voiced by the tranny creator. Funny how that gose.

Don't think they'll get much hits after that though. At least not mainstream hits.

So little update on Knight of Guinevere.
The show has still not been greenlighted, despite being three months after the pilot release.

Dana Terrace 10.png

This isn't helped by the fact that the pilot has peaked at 16 million views, which shouldn't sound bad until you compare it with Knight of Guinevere's views and the other pilots at Glitch Production.

Even when you compare it to The Gaslight District, Dana's pilot had 5 million views less than that show.
Made even worse, The Gaslight was confirmed to be greenlight, and considering the only character that most people like is the robot girl, the character-based Disney princess that Dana wants to heavily criticize, yeah, things don't look good for her show.

All the charas aside from Guinevere and her creator are ugly lesbians. No one wants to watch that crap anymore. Plus the merch sucked. I wanted to buy something to support the pilot but all of the merch had the ugly MCs and the Gwen-only stuff looked like shit.

Sucks to suck.
