i have made another purchase on my learning how to spin journey.....grizzly bear wool!!
i already have some really nice camel down/silk wool, and i with this i want to make some mittens and a scarf. idk if bear fur is that warm, or if it smells like a bag of assholes, but we will see i guess. the wool itself was cheap, but shipping from overseas was 70 dollars #TYCED

If you have cats or dogs, please update on whether the smell of the bear fur freaks them out.

I know when you sprinkle those coyote pee crystals for the garden, it scares the squirrels away even if they've never met a coyote; the smell just says "I'm a carnivore and here is my estimated size."

that is good to know...i cant wait to move and start growing things again, i always had a garden until moving to this place, and i miss it. and YES, i cant wait to see how my cats react to this :story:

Went to Universal theme parks recently with the fam. Unfortunately there's no Ratboy Genius theme park yet, so I looked to my childhood love: How to Train Your Dragon. My birthday was December 23rd and I got a ton of money to spend on souvenirs, and boy did I.
I got a big Toothless pillow. Two actually.
I got a Toothless bag.
I got some Toothless pins.
I got a Toothless phone case.
I got a Toothless ornament.
I got a dragon pen.
I got a viking hut with a candy dragon egg inside.

And...

I got matching Mario and Luigi charms for my sibling and me. 🥰 Player 1 and player 2!

A Raspberry Pi Zero 2W so I can set up a Pi-Hole for my network and never give a fucking cent to these kike advertiser faggots again as long as I live.

If I can't hang advertisers by their necks until dead, this is the second best solution.
Goddamn this makes hard as fucking ROCK (mentally of course)

I love Piholes and I try and evangelize them as much as possible but most normies are so ..... Tech illiterate they have no idea how to set one up.
I bought an Austrian M65 myself now and it really is just a fancier US M65. It's very well made and according to a piece of paper I found in the pockets it was refurbished in 1993. Weirdly enough half of the paper is in Czech and the dude that refurbished it was named Slachtova:

The paper was apparently also printed by a Czech workers co-op (Druzstvo EKON tiskarna) which is interesting because Czechoslovakia had already been dissolved by the 20th of August 1993 so I don't know why workers co-ops were even a thing at that point.

Here is the jacket if you're not really into looking at ancient army documents:

Made By Schröger GmbH (the german/austrian version of an LLC) in Dobersberg. The company seems to be defunct though (judging by the quality of their jackets they probably got ruined by low quality third world trash flooding the European market).
Me too 😁

I've found their sizing is a bit snugger than the US M-65s as the Austrian ones are thicker. That said they're cheap AF at ~$39 a pop so I got a "short as and wide" one as my range jacket as I'd rather not fuck up my OG MiUSA ones....

Speaking of.... I got a Desert camo (chocolate chip) one made in the early 1990s and man it's cool

I also have my eyes on an unissued late 1990s production in M81 woodland from the same seller
Yeah, it's the best purchase we ever made. Not only can it cook basically anything to perfection, including steaks and frozen sausages, but there is no better option for reheating things that typically don't reheat well like french fries and fish. I use mine literally every single day. We loved the first 5-quart one so much that we bought a double-tray air fryer with two stacked 4-quart trays.

Fucking retard at my work who believes in colon cleansing and essential oil therapy is afraid to buy one because she's "worried about the radiation".
Urgh I killed my old air fryer form 5 years ago.....

Any suggestions on a new one?
My Dad needs this yesterday to label tool boxes, tools and cabinets
After several hours of reading other people's keyboard nerding-out, comparing brands, comparing different product lines within brands, different iterations of the product lines, different switches within those iterations, I went with intuition, hope, and limited knowledge based on the sum of a few stray comments people had made in various places online, and ended up buying a keyboard that has "Jupiter Banana" switches in it, which sounds like a strain of weed.

It's okay, I guess. Nothing revelatory and life-changing, like the hardcore mechanical keyboard nerds make it out to be. It's just a decent keyboard. I hope I never have to buy another one
Hehe sole of the new switches are literally just weed name rebrands

I got a basic bitch GMMK full size with their cherry mx brown clones.

Per key rgb, full size plus num pad

What else does anyone need?
For as much as I try and avoid ads and brainrot, youtube shorts about Japanese stationery one-shotted my ass:
  • Zebra G-750 Black Brass Gel Pen
  • Zebra Pen M/F 701 Stainless Steel Ballpoint Pen and Mechanical Pencil
  • Uni-ball Zento Gel Ink Rollerball Pens
  • MUJI Aluminum Pen Case
I will probably spend more time clicking them than actually writing, because damn do they feel so good to click.
Ohh man..... I am just waiting on a good Montblanc 149 / 149 in Medium or medium/fine to pop up on eBay

I have pilot fountain, a Tactile Turn Side click in titanium and a few of the Fisher space pens

I'll look into that pen case
So for Christmas, I received a very nice espresso machine (Breville Barista Express) as a gift and immediately dove into as much material as I could find online about optimizing the process and as a consequence, also the accessorizing rabbit hole. So far, I've added:

A digital coffee scale
A higher-capacity single-wall filter basket
A puck screen (mostly to make cleaning the shower screen easier)
A self-leveling spring-loaded tamper
Something called a Weiss Distribution Tool, which is basically a handle for a bunch of acupuncture needles that you use to break clumps up in your ground coffee before tamping

Probably well north of $100 worth of additional stuff chasing perfect shots. That said, the coffee is pretty fucking great, so there's that.
Dear God 😳

Oh "digital coffee scale" 😏😏😏😏😏 I think we all know what that's really for (degeneracy)

I just got a cheap as shit Black and Decker coffee grinder buuuttt it was that or the $150 Baratza Encore and I literally have 1 bag of whole beans that will then go into a ..... Mr Coffee ☕ (I do want a cooler coffee maker ( a drip one plz none of that weird stuff) but damn some are hundreds of dollars) maybe one that minimizes plastic....

Any suggestions?
i have collected over 200 to 250 tapes, either through finding throughout multiple relatives houses, my grandfather buying tapes from auctions and giving some as gifts, and my usual buying from ebay
I can smell the nostalgia (in a good way) and my parents still have our old Disney VHS, TMNT 1 and 2 and Free Willy tapes.
Batteries, as a family Christmas gift.
Absolutely outstanding choice

I just got myself 12 AA and 12 AAA Ikea Lada Nimh batteries to replace ones I lost in my move

I'll look into that pen case
It is very nice, matches well with my business card and cigarette cases. That said it is very much a minimalist case. You're not getting much more than 3-4 pens in there. Thin enough it cannot close properly with the Zentos if the clip isn't facing the right way. You'd be cutting it close if you'd want Mont Blancs to fit. On that note instead of getting a second small tool/pen roll for my bag, I consolidated my old roll and pens into one of these:

I'm becoming convinced the Chinese take perfectly good products and make them shitty if they're selling them for low prices. I had to seam rip some nonsense badge they put on the front. Those metal zipper pulls have the same dumb logo and surely cost more on their BOM than the cord I replaced them with would have cost. The mismatched snaps still drive me a little nuts. One of these days I'll use it as a pattern to make a proper canvas one.

Not here or there but I had a bit of sticker shock looking up Mont Blanc pricing. I only knew of it when someone got given one for free for some important contract signing. They told me it was a $100 pen which was still obscene to me then. Seeing the 149 are more on the order of $1400 is shocking.

A cameo ring (because I love all things Victorian and Edwardian), a watch ring that cost way more than the other jewelry, and another cameo ring, because why not have two.

The wife has basically the same load out for her brevills lol

It's funny - my coffee kit was (and still is for "regular" coffee) hilariously analog and manual prior to getting this machine, consisting of a Bodum pourover (usually with the Chemex paper filters), a hopper-style Cuisinart burr grinder (not amazing, but perfectly fine for pourover) and a variable temperature electric kettle. At home, I haven't actually used a drip coffee maker in decades, though I've heard good things about Zojirushi coffee makers.

Also, for the air fryer, I've been using this one by Instant Pot. No issues, but it's the only one I've ever used.

My vcr is a late 1997 rca vr612hf (a 4-head hi-fi stereo vcr) ran through 3 rca cables to a av to hdmi converter with a button that changes picture ratio (not for the quality as I know you can't upgrade a vcr's picture through these converters, I bought it so I watch it in the natural 4x3 aspect ratio as watching it on the standard composite on my vizio smart tv stretches the picture to 16x9), as for industrial cassette tape rewinding machines or splicing kits, I don't have that. And as for some of my tapes, some are rental tapes, I don't know if I have a blockbuster tape, I know some are from mom and pop rental stores and one is a Hollywood video rental, and as for ghostbusters 2 it's a promotional screener tape. When you worked for blockbuster did you ever get to deal with screener tapes?
I owe you an explanation for my sticker. If you're being autistic with your tapes to this point please ditch the awful generic "av to hdmi converter" that I assume you are using. They're just no; your tapes deserve better. I'm horrified and this is the right thread for me to unload the autistical lengths I went through in my own efforts.

I don't collect much on tape. I generally don't buy pan-and-scan movies and that is the typical format on VHS. (I passed on a Pink Panther boxset because I only found the original to be moderately amusing so would assume that the sequels wouldn't be worth the space. You can let me know if I was a fool.) My most recent acquisitions were about a half dozen sealed Charles Bronson movies none of which I have seen before.

Primarily I go for LDs but have mostly pulled back since I've run out of space and my local stores that sell LDs stopped pricing them at $1-2. Anyway I went through a significant effort to find a reasonable scaler for my analog media. This is NOT a straightforward task and those mini boxes from china are just depressing. Basically almost anything from the last ~15 years is not fit for purpose because the people making them don't know shit about analog video conversion and don't give enough of a shit to get it right (and sadly most people don't give enough of a shit to notice it's shit).

To cut to the chase I found the PrimeDTV PHD-8VX to be the best all around option.

There are more capable scalers out there but they lack a key feature, the ability to decode closed captions. If you don't care about closed captions then there is a world of options out there but a shockingly low amount of devices support CCs. You can even see old AVS forum posts from the early 2000s about this very problem. I went through about 5 decives to come to the conclusion that basically only the devices that support cpations are those that incorporate TV tuners. Most likely because the FCC requires TVs (and TV tuners) to have CC decoders and there are (or were) patents and royalties around caption decoding. So either the scaler companies omitted CC decoding to save a couple dollars or just forgot to include them.

My problem was that I do care about CCs. It can be hard to hear shit sometimes and in the case of LDs there are a couple animu LDs that put the English subs in the CCs. If you can live without CCs (you are right now) then there are others I can recommend but the PHD-8VX shows up on ebay for cheaper than the other ones I'd recommend.

The easier option is to just get a CRT. You should get a CRT to watch the tapes as God intended :)

Heh the basic Montblanc is still under $1000 at $735

They have limited editions (Naruto for example) and colors that rapidly escalated from $1000

Cool. I'll probably go Ninja as they promise no PFTEs on the cooking surfaces while Insta pot admits Teflon (finally)

I had a cheap one I got a while ago that was just not well though out.

Saw a beautiful cast iron skillet set at a farmers market and lost my shit. It was over $100 dollars, but I got 5 different sizes. Worth every penny.

Well, the ones with peter sellers are good (the pink panther, a shot in the dark, return of the pink panther which at the time was owned by a seperate company, the pink panther strikes again, and revenge of the pink panther) those are good, everything after that (trail of the pink panther- pretty much a clipshow with a bunch of deleted scenes from strikes again-not worth it, curse of the pink panther- dreyfus uses a computer to find a detective like clouseau-not worth it, son of the pink panther- is alright, id ssy get it.
To cut to the chase I found the PrimeDTV PHD-8VX to be the best all around option
I'll look into getting that, sounds like a solid enough device, as I'll admit my av-to-hdmi converter is a bit shit (some red tint on the top of some movies, no cc support, some drop-outs where no signal is present which could be a tape thing, a vcr thing or the converter box.) I just bought it because it had the button that fixed the image to its original aspect ratio and not a stretch aspect ratio that my tv's native av outputs on the screen. If I can, ill try and find a nice enough crt with stereo to watch my tapes on.

trail of the pink panther- pretty much a clipshow with a bunch of deleted scenes from strikes again-not worth it
It's beyond not worth it. The Sellers estate even sued over it and won. It's an absolute abortion, and the reason they used deleted scenes is because Sellers was dead at that point.

I think it was the first time I was actually furious at the mere existence of a movie that defiled the franchise it was in and that Sellers would never have wanted attached to his legacy.

What sucks even more, is that the vhs box set of the pink panther include that cancer-aids thing they call a "love-letter" to Peter Sellers.
Also it has the most ugliest packaging I've ever seen, so I'd suggest if your buying anything with the pink panther from mgm/ua buy the 1991 copies of the movies except for trail and curse of the pink panther

And since @Joshuan Moon is a laserdisc enthusiast, whats your favorite laserdisc in your collection, what's your laserdisc player (pioneer, sony, rca, or toshiba) what are some good players to recommend.
