That's purely financial. All the youtube "bodycam" channels are crushing police budgets. Minnesota has a law that restricts release and saves them money. It's a fiducial duty for the county to oppose release. The DoA likely believed the bodycam fell within the release qualifiers but the court and DA are closer to the case. If Hardin actually wins narrowly on the footage that was entered into the system, they'll likely comply without appeal.

But I don't think he will prevail because the prosecutor is correct. The court largely restricted access to every part of Nicks case. The court sealed everything about his kids. Even the bodycam that was released had restrictions similar to the court apearances (in person, no electronics). I think it's pretty clear that the law that makes it public was intended to only be evidence presented at trial in open court. The argument will be that the prosecutor submitted it to the system as part of its obligation to be candid with the court but actual trial evidence would have been an edit agreed to by all parties. Minnesota has a lot of restrictions on bodycam release which is why they have very few restrictions on specific places like homes.

If they lose broadly and have to produce full, electronic copies, I suspect the legislature will tighten up the law to restrict bodycam release of the inside of private residences while Kandiyohi county appeals.

I think it’s clearly what she was “supposed” to do. It’s social/religious/community pressure. Her parents had a large blended family and I assume her grandparents did too. Stands to reason it was expected of her and she wanted it on some level before the cooming won out.

I think the press is the mostly likely thing, and unless law enforcement sees it as some kind of enhancement due to presence of drugs, I wouldn't expect them to list it as some evidence. I have a gelcap press very much like the one you show, mine's a bit more rectangular. I think it cost twelve bucks, maybe 20 with shipping. It's cumbersome enough for my uses, and often results in lots of residue being dusted around. Not the kind of thing a cocaine distributor would be interested in, given the waste. I think any kind of pill distributor would use more elaborate kit, and that in turn would make law enforcement focus on potential distribution. Also, a bag of a thousand 00-size gelcaps costs only about fifteen bucks. This is a very low barrier to entry.

I think it's how he copes. He hasn't done anything wrong, so he has nothing to be ashamed of. Swinging and drug use are actually super cool. Some bad things happened because of the evil government, but that's not his fault. He can't control what the state does. He's a hero and a genius, sure, but he still has limited powers.
An average person would front that as a cope but avoid revealing or even talking about things as much as possible, because they are on some level aware it's a cope.

You can buy empty pill capsules. People use them for legitimate medicine or supplements.

We know he used MDMA, so he might have purchased that as a powder and created his own pills for convenience (either pressed or caps, IDK how pressed powder pills would turn out or why you might bother with that). He also could have used the pills to smuggle drugs in a form that makes them look like real medication.
I doubt he made cocaine pills for anything aside from maybe smuggling, if that was even a thing he did. I never heard of anyone swallowing coke, and he had a cocaine bullet, so I think that plus ziplocs was how he managed that drug when he was moving around.

I don't think he sold drugs. The amount of stuff he had can be explained through him buying in bulk, because he had the money and was going through significant amounts with three adult serious users in the house.
If he can afford it, and especially if he buys online or has a connection some distance from home, why wouldn't he buy a whole bunch at once? It's far more convenient: He'd have more freedom to time his next purchase without risking running out and he wouldn't have to think about restocking all the time.
Edit: He would also feel super cool with a big pile of cocaine.
