Young dogs chew (and rip apart paper) a lot because of several reasons and you should chew-proof your house. However, older dogs chewing up things they are not supposed to is a sign of neglect. The reasons are usually (separation) anxiety or boredom. You should be able to get most chewers under control, if you take normal care of them and buy chewing sticks for them.
John and Frank won't do that, because they view their dogs as status objects, not as living creatures.
It's no wonder animals owned by these two sociopathic creeps would resort to destructive behavior.
