A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Is anything nice happening today? I need some NICE news. Find me some adorable baby ducks being ushered across a road or something,

Couple of days ago but I hope that's alright. Red Kites back from the brink of extinction and now not merely re-established in Britain but beginning to civilise colonise our European neighbours. Bunch of them just been sent off to Spain to enjoy the sunshine.

I, um, cannot promise that the rise of the Red Kite will make baby ducks especially happy, but um, circle of life and all that.

It makes me think of headgear in boxing. It looks safer but makes your head a bigger target, makes you less likely to guard properly as you feel safer with the padding, protects against cuts and bruises but does fuck all against brain injury, so using it in actual competitive fights was more dangerous than having no head gear.
Sounds like a version of risk homeostasis (people feeling safer and therefore behaving more recklessly - the example I read about was cyclists being more likely to take risks when they're wearing bike helmets).
Actually I just googled it and there are some results the theory's been deboonked so who knows.

Yay! There’s a place in mid wales you can watch close up as they feed them. Well worth a visit. Near Rhyader, nice bit of the world.

the one legged pigeon i look after has returned to my garden, fatter than ever. chunky bastard, i was getting worried.

High Court says Bell Hotel can continue to house asylum seekers, in a rare W for the government. Expect protests. Shooting in Bham, double stabbing in Manchester, Nottingham police have arrested a 20 year old in suspicion of murder.

Anyone who doesn't notice the obvious hypocrisy in 'we need migrants for the economy' and 'unemployment up to 5%' now needs to be sterilised for being retarded. I personally always found it mega racist and anti-workers-rights that the left is content to import Browns to do the 'menial jobs' rather than focusing on better hours, flexibility for disabled peoples, higher wages, etc, for British workers; but the left is owned by the corporations it says it challenges, so, whatever.

regarding vapes being aimed at children with fruity flavors., I think its just people are pussies nowadays. I remember being at a staff night out with guys from my work and we were saying it'll be a proper lad's night out, these cunts were all ordering cider and blackcurrant, I was like does beer hurt your fanny? we need cigar and bourbon flavour vapes, they get you pissed as well as a nicotine buzz

Yeah I just saw this, obviously getting my blood boiling.

The reasoning of the Judge that this must be allowed "to allow the Home Secretary to fulfil her statutory duties" is farcical. The people don't want this. So those "statutory duties" need to be changed.

Also, not allowing the evictions "because then a load of other councils would do the same thing" is not a good enough reason. These migrant hotels evidently increase crime in the local area, not to mention all the negative social impacts that may be non-criminal.

The locals have tried the legal routes, and have come up against the brick wall of the establishment. What other routes remain for the people of Epping now?

They've made that hotel a potential bonfire site, congratulations...

one of the key ideas of the industrial revolution was to mechanise the workforce for more efficiency and (eventually) better working conditions. By moving over to machines we were able to produce more with less people needed, this naturally made people kick off and had done for decades before even in those days (I.E. luddites).

Leftists seem to have forgotten or flat out ignore this idea and think now we need to revert back to a time when we needed to import people in the tens of, if not hundreds of thousands to do jobs that really either take a couple of people to do or a machine could do it for us cheaper and much faster. Only now, rather then brining in people from the country side, we bring over browns and blacks who unlike whites mostly don't even work when we do.

I'm really paraphrasing and simplifying history here but there is literally 0 reasons we ever need to import this third world gutter trash when either a white teenager or a robot arm can do a better job then a dozen plus darkies and we could make it our new goal to improve life in and around work.

I'm basically in weekly meetings at this point about how my laptop-caste job is on borrowed time due to AI. If I'm up for the chop in the next few years I can't even imagine how many millions of almost-useless Word and Powerpoint emailing jobs are going to be slashed before 2030. Importing literally anyone for work purposes is extremely short sighted.

I just hope I can get a job driving the bin lorry at least. Provided that hasn't been replaced with some kind of robo bin lorry driver as well.

They'd tend to be the first to go in an economic downturn anyway. AI is a meme that doesn't live up to the hype, except in very specific edge-cases. I've used it on and off for work, and I find that it inevitably shits out garbage that i have to almost entirely re-write from scratch. People I work with who say it's making them more productive are spending as much time fixing all the problems it creates as they would otherwise have spent performing the work themselves to begin with.

Once they realise that the most likely targets for AI replacement are middle management and HR, they'll drop the whole thing. IMO they've shifted that way already. AI has become a convoluted excuse for more off-shoring. Fire the existing team, "suddenly realise" AI can't replace them, send the whole department to India. I'm fortune enough to be working in a bit of a niche industry that can't off-shore right now (lots of reasons) and I'm in a position to demand a no indians policy if we ever need to expand the team, which is nice. I just hope we outlast the current stupidity, because I know for sure I'll have a hard time getting work if I lose this contract.

Importing literally anyone for work purposes is extremely short sighted.
Hard to be anything but short-sighted, when they're so far up their own arses they can see their tonsils.

We keep getting told the same and I’ll believe it when I see it. The machine learning and LLM stuff is great in specific niche areas. Outside that, it’s shit. If your job has any element of cat herding, or human complexity, or an output that’s vital for safety it’s not getting replaced any time soon. Twenty years down the line who knows, but AI is a bubble. It’ll burst, the places where it’s genuinely useful in its niche will continue to use it well and everything else will be quietly abandoned .
OpenAI are asking for guvernement funding - that’s as clear a top signal as you can get. POP!

I dislike AI intensely and I hate the advertising for it, showing people using it to do their actual work. It's not "working smarter".

If you're incapable of doing basic level office work then you deserve to be consigned to the scrap heap. The level and quality of stuff AI puts out is absolute slop, as well.

Outside of extremely niche stuff, it has no practical use .

I wonder why the government decided to pursue this, I assume to make an example of Epping by crushing them with the law and forcing them to comply.
I really think this strategy is going to be a bad idea in the long run TBH. People all over the country are watching and learning.

Have I heard the same about boxing gloves or is that a myth?
AFAIK, due to boxing having gloves by the time we could actually collect data on brain injury, we may not actually have a good comparison, so it's mostly just rationalized that boxing gloves led to more brain injuries due to the previously mentioned fact that boxing gloves protect your hands and wrists instead of your opponent's face.

I mostly believe it.

They definitely made the head an easier target to hit. Or really, any target for that matter. Punching someone bare knuckle is actually quite taxing on your hands. Your wrists give way more, fingers swell and become immobile, sometimes without you even noticing, and the knuckle skin peels.

Partly this, partly the fact that, at least in the short term, they've not got anywhere else to put the immigrants that won't cause more problems. There's a chronic housing shortage in this country, and much as they'd love to just put all of them in social housing (or force people to give up their "spare" rooms to immigrants), they are no doubt aware that doing so would cause a much more visceral, widespread reaction. Having a bunch of protesters turn up at a hotel is preferable to people firebombing multiple properties because they were booted out to house immigrants, or dealing with the inevitable riots that would come with the mass homelessness of natives. They have plans in motion that need time to come together, so for now they have to keep the migrants in hotels. The fact that it punishes epping for daring to defy central government is a bonus in their eyes.

I am certain they'll be trying to force people to take migrants into their homes in a couple of years, if they aren't stopped. When the only premise they'll accept is that all migrants must be housed, but there aren't enough free houses to go around, then making people who own property house them is the only viable solution.

I wonder, at what point, Starmer will turn against Trump and consider him an enemy/threat to the UK.

The BBC will now be relying on him to defend their lies and misinformation (I wonder why Marianna Spring hasn't been sacked either...) and if he doesn't then that will not bode well for the Government as the link between the BBC and the Government of the day is almost sacred.

Starmer is allegedly planning to meet Carney, Zelensky and von der Leyen early next year in London in order to formulate a plan to save Ukraine without Trump's help - if he's going to pour scorn and cold water on the Special Relationship then I feel that even his closest allies and mandarins in Whitehall will be looking to have him removed.

A 12% rating, divides and splits in the party plus a budget which will be wholly unpopular - it's now accelerating to the point that change will not just be 'a nice idea' but inevitable.

I'm no fan of starmer, but the first British PM to stand up and tell the yanks to fuck off and wind their necks in, gets my vote.
There's telling the yanks to fuck off and then there's looking like a whiny pissbaby because you for flounced by some fat orange man on live TV. The first PM to kick the yanks to the curb and demand Anne Socoolas be extradited to the UK to face justice will get my undying loyalty, but Keir looks like a spastic on the international stage. He looks like the unpopular kid at school being invited to the cool kids table to be subtly bullied.
(i hate seppos (spits))
Kiwibros if nothing happens in Epping in the next few days Im losing all hope. What the fuck is the final straw?

I'll take what I can get, baby steps and all that.

It wasn't long ago that the chinks wouldn't question or answer back to yanks on international calls. Then it changed and now the yanks are the bitches taking orders from the chinks.
That could be us.
