The novelty and enthusiasm for the No Kings protest faded fast; in my area, it seems like most of the turnout for the last batch was the serial protestors who attend any local protest any time anywhere. It certainly lacks any sort of grass roots feel with all the pro-Democrat/Union groups sinking countless resources into the protests.
There was a time when wild happenings would be dismissed as the rantings of a conspiracy theorist in desperate need of a 72-hour psych hold. Today, they are plausible enough they can't be dismissed as illogical.
Subsidies were income based, but the Dems - during Biden's term - "enhanced" the subsidies temporarily by eliminating the income-based scale and giving everyone on ObamaCare the highest allowable subsidies for their family size. This is set to expire and the Republicans don't want the enhancement to continue nor do they want subsidies/Obamacare funding to directly or indirectly benefit illegal aliens nor do they want those funds supporting "gender affirming care" from what I understand. Dems want the status quo to continue in the next budget so much so they're willing to keep the shutdown going in an attempt to get their way via temper tantrum.
With the Dems embracing identity and gender politics as much as they have, they've become champions for gender affirming care because it gives those constituents what they want even though more often than not it merely reinforces the delusions of mentally unstable people than it improves their quality of life. Like any other benefit or gibs for their constituents, they are willing to fall on their swords to maintain government support/funding for those benefits even if it means shutting down the government over it.
