im late on this, but canada just got free dental this year for anyone making less than 70k CAD a year/ without access to dental insurance. thoughts?
edit*
how is a failed state able to implement something like this? Meanwhile, america is aiming to further cut social programs

90-80k get 40% coverage
80-70 get 60% coverage
70k and below get 100% coverage
>The Canada government implementing even more 'free' social programs is such a powermove! Get fucked Ameri-chuds & your private healthcare!
>I can't see anyway this could backfire or have negative consequences on our already overtaxed, & heavily strained economy at all!
>It's not like there's a consistent history of the feds being incredibly incompetent at implementing stuff like this, and/or it ending up being extremely abused to the benefit of primarily unemployed economic migrants!

Fucking retard

Tens of thousands mistakenly approved for dental coverage, Health Canada says

Half of requests for complex dental work are being rejected under national insurance plan

5 million Canadians now covered by national dental care plan, but nearly half haven't been to a dentist
(Archive)

This is all just CBC slop too, even the literally government funded propagandists can't fully deny how bad this shit's been going right off the bat despite how hard they try to spin it

The news stories we'll likely see about Jeets Brampton men scammimg this will at least make for (depressingly) amusing reads in a few years
I can already imagine the lists of primarily Singh's we'll see listed in the 'fake dental care front' crime ring busts & the like that'll probably become the newest scandal, just like the current buy-a-license truck schools that've finally been getting legal attention, sometime in the futrue

did you even read the articles you posted? It talks about how there are more stringent measures in place to prevent fraud. which is why less people are approved for "complex" dental work.
The article that says people mistakenly recieved coverage also explained how those people did not have to repay what was done since they were mistakenly approved. 5 million people being covered, but half not going isn't strange. you go to the dentist twice a year, and this program is fairly new

Smith takes more shots at Carney

"Our economy here in Alberta has lost billions of dollars thanks to decisions made in Ottawa without our consent. Alberta will stand it's ground defending our right to control aspects of our trade, our production and our industry, that's why I'm sponsoring this bill to give us power over our own provincial jurisdiction. Mr Prime Minister; Confederation only work when it is fairly applied." Ouch! That a clear shot.

She's tabling a bill to give her power to negotiate her own trade agreements with the US basically. Now we know why several key Alberta politicians were seen in DC over the last few months. Smith probably stuck a deal with Trump for only Alberta and knowing that Carney will have to respond by saying that she, as only Premier, lacks that power Smith so is moving to enshrine that power in the Alberta Constitution to shut down anything Ottawa will do to stop this.

If this works and Smith can indeed circumvent Ottawa (that's a big IF) then shit will really hit the fan. If she proves that Provinces can indeed forge trade pacts with other nations without Ottawa's consent or involvement Federal Power is done for and Ottawa becomes nothing more then a backwater as the centre of power moves to Toronto and Calgary.

Don't get your hopes up, this is a very legally specious approach and the Supreme Court will 10000% side with Ottawa on this matter. Articles of Confederation clearly delineate the areas of Federal jurisdiction and Provincial and Smith is on very shaky legal grounds here.

But maybe that's her goal.

She announces a trade deal with the US where most of the tariffs on Alberta oil and gas are dropped then Carney is forced to come in and say Nu-uh! You can't do that. This will only cause even more discontent in the West as it's Ottawa once again stepping in to make sure the West gets fucked over for nothing more then political points and showing that they only care about the East.

I don't like Smith, I've met her, I've known of her for years. She a 100% politician through and through. Doing and saying and believing anything that will get her more power. She doesn't give one single shit about Alberta beyond what she must to get re-elected. Offer her the PM spot and she'd pull at 180 in seconds.

Buuut...this is a smart move. She's throwing down the gauntlet in Carney's face at the worst possible time for him and the only way he can respond will make him look stupid and petty at best and down right evil at worst. It's a good plan..too good for someone like Smith to think up.

Believe it or not I smell Miller or some other Trump agent at work here, this is just too cagey a move for a Canadian politican to think up. Maybe something is in the works...I don't hold any hope but I am interested in seeing how this will play out.

I dont know how it works in Canada, but i assumed provinces are somewhat comparable to states. And 10000000% a state is not allowed to negotiate a separate trade deal with a foreign power, for obvious reasons

Im guessing the same applies in canada?

Who is gonna stop Alberta.

Yes, technically only Ottawa has the power to negotiate with foreign powers. Provinces can strike trade deals but only with Federal approval and involvement.

That's the point of Smith's new bill. It will give Alberta the power to negotiate on economic matter on it's own without Federal approval or involvement.

This is nothing less then a direct attack on Ottawa's power, Smith is pushing for a show down with the Feds so I can only hope she's got something in her back pocket because she's going to lose in court quickly.

Who really knows. Maybe it's just more bluster from her after all Smith wants to be a PM someday and someday soon.

In a functioning country that is the plan, but the Federal government has been sabotaging Alberta trade for decades and Alberta is trying to get one foot out of the door. Ontario went ahead with a foreign advertising campaign without (allegedly) Ottowa's consent, so the federal government is losing control of things.

Considering the times that other states and provinces just blatantly ignore federal laws, i wouldn't be surprised if Smith is gearing up to ignore the Canadian law on it. And what will ottowa do about it? Alberta is a net payer in equalisation payments so that can't withhold funding, and sending the army or something to the border will not be a good look.

I'm confident that in a decade Canada will have lost most of it's landmass, if it hasn't been fully dissolved.

My Grandmother should qualify for this program but I'm pretty sure since she already has some basic insurance plan she doesn't qualify. Absolute lunacy.

Instead the program is just free Dental for Jeets, and companies will use it to skimp out on giving good dental benefits programs to their employees.

Every job description says they offer dental benefits, what they fail to disclose is that their dental plan never covers shit.

This whole idea of a strategic relationship between Canada and China is just pure insanity.

The US-Asian alliance is literally built on containing China, and here's Canada opening its legs wide open to China.

Are Canadians really this braindead? I can't.

Imagine trying to curry favor with China when the world's largest super power is geographically located right beneath you. Carney has a double digit IQ like all of his followers. I hope the US invades, I really do.

I don't understand the problem here. she cancels her current dental insurance plan, and goes on cdcp? if she's retired than dentures should be 100% covered.
jeets are gonna do what jeets do, so instead of getting riled up about these turd slingers, trying to get people that benefit the most from this program early on (like your grandma) seems like the best move.
If your grandma doesn't do emails, then there's an option to have a card mailed to her (similar to a sin card) that she can submit when she meets her dentist.

Seriously doubt she has federal leadership aspirations, she's smart and politically savvy enough to know her personality and baggage makes her anathema to anything outside of Alberta/Saskatchewan (and eastern BC). I do not like her after the isle crossing stunt she pulled with Prentice, but credit where it's due, she knows how to navigate Albertan politics.

I used to like watching 22 minutes and the Rick Mercer Report between the ages of 10 and 13.

I can't imagine how bad 22 minutes has gotten now (I've see a few of their Trudeau sketches and their terrible)
I too used to watch rick mercer and 22 as a kid, probably only watch 22 still out of nostalgia but its not that bad.

Nothing that makes me wanna praise it from the rooftop but its entertaining canadian political comedy for 22 mins on a Tuesday night.
Doug Ford is such a stupid fat faggot it's astounding. The timing of this, happening so soon after Clown Cars shitty budget speech, is just perfect.
Dougie got you buck a beer and you wanted more???

Just ban Canadian oil.

It will liquidate Canada within 5 month.
Doug wanted to save money and not pay the ad cancellation fee for the World Series ads. Because you know they had that baked in when they bought the slot. Everytime they pull shit like this, they give him more ammo. I keep seeing headlines in Canada that the ad 'angered Trump.' Why would it? You just gave him a gift, he's going to continue bending the country over. USCMA next year is going to be wild.

Another interesting coincidence to mull over as well. When does the budget come out? November 4. What else happens that day? American state and municipal elections (NYC anyone?). Pretty obvious what Carney and Lib central hope dominates the airwaves (since CBC and the like never fail to feature American politics) for a few days instead of their clusterfuck of a budget.
