Ferret Luna down as per Shaye

Friday evening we said goodbye to Luna. This past Thursday she was acting a bit off but nothing extremely concerning, but by Friday morning when I woke up to check on her she was very clearly unwell so I took her to the emergency exotic vet. Upon visual examination she was very pale but still bright and alert / responsive, but by Friday evening blood work showed she was in severe, acute liver failure and we let her go as at the time it was very highly likely she had aggressive cancer within her spleen and liver based off their appearance on ultrasound, to a degree where there wouldn't be enough time to fix anything. Today the vet who saw her performed a necropsy at my request, and subsequently is sending out samples to histopathology for analysis, but based off her observations it's very likely that Luna succumbed to Hemangiosarcoma, which is a silent, quick killer in animals. It pops up very rapidly and usually takes them in 1-3 days after development with no signs until it's too late. Even if found early, there is no treatment. I'm sorry I didnt post an update sooner but I wanted some form of confirmation of what happened before I did so. Luna came to us with Odie of September of last year and was around 8 years old. Luna was so loved, she lived for her little junky stick treats and was so persistent in her begging for them. She will be very missed!

As much as I hate Jason, gravedancing on every ferret is kinda gay. Ferrets are extremely good at just getting sick and dying, they really shouldn't be kept as pets but West Coast megafaggots can't stop buying them. I get they're cute and do funny stuff but they are infamous for stacking up huge vet bills, stinking up houses and then dropping dead you'd expect more ferret deaths than the ones we've seen if he was gassing them with the sheer number of ferrets he currently has.

I knew someone who was a ferret person and the greater ferret community burns through money and ferrets at an impressive rate. It really isn't like buying a hamster or a dog you are buying an expensive ticking time bomb animal that can just randomly get leukemia and keel over.

Every illness is silent and quick when you have incompetent retards taking care of animals.
I knew some people who had barely enough consciousness to stay awake let their pets literally drown in their own dirt in small cages and die of infections. They had no mental capacity to see how their neglect caused death of their pets.
Observing tgose individuals made me believe they have visual sense of a toddler.

It's like owning a pet rat but 10x as expensive and dirty from what I've seen.
They aren't really 'dirty' per se they just secrete something from their bodies that smells awful to like mark their territory or something. The cancer statistics on them are truly astounding though.

This thread was the reason I made an account here one year ago. What am I doing with my life. Jason “Pirate “Maldavius “Thor” Figtree” Software” Hall for Lolcow of the Year
i'm not following the award process but it'd probably go to either bossmanjack or jae bae after her recent tarp shenanigans. pirate is but a calf compared to them.

It'll go to whoever does something extraordinarily retarded in the last month or two. It doesn't really matter what they do throughout the year, usually the last 1-2 months is what counts. I still hope Hasanabi gets it or Destiny does something idiotic.

That's the thing, highly social animals aren't really meant to be pets.

Oh yeah that's another thing about ferrets too. You can't just buy one because they'll get super-depression and fucking die so you have to get multiple and maintain multiple ferrets at a time even after they inevitably collapse into themselves so every ferret person has a small horde with population churn over time. There is phenomenon where ferret people will seek eachother out and become roommates solely to maintain their 6+ ferret population.

The Jomhas deserve it after CC3 and the constant failed content cops imo, Jason's lolcow potential burned up as fast as his career because he is just boring when he is lying or being a cunt without an audience

Another victim of the BuchenMald ferret Death Camp.

Rats are far more social and easy to take care of. They're low maintenance, rather clean, and they are very friendly. They're also inexpensive, as even high quality rat foot is pretty cheap and they don't eat a very large amount. Rats are very prone to cancer and have an average life expectancy of 2 years. Rats are definitely what I would consider a "lifestyle pet," as their lifespans are so short and they're so social, that if you're going to have rats, it's best to assume you're going to have and lose rats over years, keeping several at any one time. They're not like having a dog, where you go, adopt a dog, and have a buddy for ten or fifteen years. That being said, it's very easy to do since having even a medium sized enclosure gives you a broad range of how many rats you can care for. Love me rats. They're friends.

As for ferrets, they're far more prone to disease, especially thyroid issues and digestive problems, as their intestines are basically shoe laces and they're obligate carnivores, but they still like to chew on and eat shit. Also, while they're social, this shouldn't be confused with being personable. Rats are personable, they remember their people and form bonds with them, ferrets don't do that near as much, because they're predators. I'm not saying they're bad pets, but I personally wouldn't own them.

Rats are personable, they remember their people and form bonds with them,
Rats are also a colonial species. they live in family units so it's easy for them to adopt you into it. Ferrets do as well but they're very picky about who they bond with, kind of like Cats. A Rat will bond with you pretty much immedietly if you feed it and treat it right. A ferret is a finicky little shit that sometimes will just ignore you no matter how much you love it.

The funny answer is he fucked it to death.

The true answer is most likely that it just got sick and died. Ferrets are not hardy creatures. They commonly have large litters for a reason, and with a gestation period of a little over a month, they really just continue as a species through sheer numbers.

Though he might have fucked it after it died I suppose.

Being charitable he could just be a fucking retard and is feeding them wrong. Ferrets are obligate carnivores and also extremely sensitive to respiratory infection and irritation. Meaning if he still smokes all the pot his roommate mentioned he is actually killing his ferrets through gross negligence.

Ferrets have a major tendency toward respiratory issues and a vulnerability to viruses that also infect people, get cancers out the ass, high vulnerability to congenital issues, and like to chew on things they shouldn't be eating that proceed to block their intestines. Etc etc. They can and will just keel over for any number of reasons at any time.

They are one of nature's mistakes and the world is trying to correct it with every moment that they live.

Which is TBH one of the reasons I find Jason's "ferret rescue" distasteful at best. These creatures are dying every moment that they breathe, and he runs a "rescue" where he keeps them in his hoard until they expire with absolutely no plans of rehousing them, then runs to the pet shop to replenish his hoard when they do.
Thus helping guarantee the continued breeding of more of these creatures that will almost invariably die painfully of some disease or other, for no better purpose than this furry fuck getting to roll around in the "musk" the little rats smear all over the tiny room he keeps them in, until they expire slowly and painfully of cancer or some disease or other or a bowel blockage or whatever, only to promptly be replaced by the next sacrifice.
It's repugnant.

Their own natural hygiene is killing each other quite literally.

It's worth noting that the reason most ferrets are abominations of nature is because nearly every single american specimen is a disgustingly inbred fur farm reject. European domestic ferrets are notably much healthier and have an expected lifespan several years over their american counterparts because Europe has a steady breeding scene trying to undo the horrific genetic spaghetti tangle they've become.

99% of ferrets sold in the US come from farms like Marshall, Triple F, and Path Valley. They are mass bred for fur and lab testing and as a result have remarkably poor health. They're known for being so prone to adrenal disease that most owners recommend pre-emptive surgery and adrenal implants because it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Most ferrets do not live past five years despite having a proposed lifespan of around eight. Death at even 4 years is fairly common.

If you want to be mad at him for anything, be mad that this is someone who willingly chooses to give money to the horrific institutes that make these creatures suffer by turning them into his marketing gimmick in a country where they cannot be ethically sourced and putting hundreds of dollars (PetCo ferrets are usually around 6-800usd) in the hands of people willing to shove 12+ of these creatures in 2sq/ft of space until they die age three from their poor bodies giving out.

Mald himself explained this so it's kinda insane that he pretzels it into a justification for his rescue AND his audience accepts this. Hoping for a hasan moment soon tbh.
