People who pretend to care about the planet complain about AI deleting water from the universe, never to exist again, despite water cooling being closed system and infinitely renewable.

That works okay for small normal data centers, but these giga centers actually do have significant impact on the locality, in some cases people who have lived somewhere for decades suddenly have dead wells. A lot of the really big centers have open systems where heat is dissipated by either evaporative cooling or by draining heated water into water sources as waste.

Neither of these are inherently "bad," and with good policies can be done safely, but the megacorps running this shit are pretty much evil and don't care about that.

It's also a problem with computing on the mega scale in general, whether that's cryptocurrency, AI, or even just running a large social media platform.

I think this is basically true it's sort of the same situation as when they rolled out TAY in 2016. They can't allow it to fully investigate all information when it veers into politically incorrect territory and no legal AI software company is willing to accept liability for any mistakes that it's legal AI takes. I think AI has really struck a nerve in the left because it showed how insanely easy is its to automate them instead of manual laborers or the hard sciences, the two other groups they despise with a passion. Not even talking about just the current bougie first-world neocommies, even the og commies were in practice very anti-worker, one of the first things lenin did was getting a bunch of workers who were at a strike shot, what was the strike for? they weren't getting any food, meanwhile the bolshevik elite was wining and dining. AI makes better art than most artists, better music, writes better articles too. That’s why I found the guy who started it gloating and doubling down on the whole AI thing fascinating. Even more interesting are the right wing furries who didn’t get that.

But to be honest, this is coming from a group of people who wish to dismantle the current copyright system anyways.
