My commentary on the Kurzgesagt video...
> They say that over half of Interne traffic is bots, and over one third of those are 'bad' bots.
I am not so sure if all of the 'bad' bots are AI. Moreover, while this amount of traffic being bots is troubling, I hesitate on calling this a doomsday scenario in itself, given tha the bots may be feeding search engines. In fact, Google giving answers instead of directing traffic to websites may be useful because the user may not need to have to search for an answer in a long original tex.
Then again, "Kurzgesagt" does mean 'in a nutshell'. There might be a lot of abstraction involved.

> Worse, at least one linked article was made by AI, being a form of citogenesis.

A lot of the problems mentioned in the video were already big problems before LLMs, from what you can see in the hyperlink. Even before Wikipedia, there was always a conundrum about whether the information you find is true, even if the information came from someone's Geocities website or Encylopædia Britannica.

> AI confidently tells believable lies, then, when you call out AI's lies, AI promises to avoid lying, but lies again.
That is a very disingenuous way of describing how AI learn. Since AI s merely a machine, AI is not deliberately lying to you, but merely tries to correct any mistakes that you have to explicitly point ou to the AI.

> Researchers noticed that, since the use of Large Language Models, certain words that AI likes skyrocketed in scientific papers, implying at least AI-assistance. In fact, some papers are hiding AI prompts by making the text match the colour of the paper or massively shrinking the font size, making AI review a paper positively instead of correcting the paper.
...that is actually a big problem.

> In the Internet, only human attention has any value.
I find this pessimistic and overly simplistic, but I do not know of any counterarguments.

> increases political divides

You are just making AI a convenient strawman.

The posters in the Competency Crisis Thread are going insane and raving how LLMs are going to turn everyone on Earth into braindead zombies who rely on AI for all their thinking and how we need to outlaw them and invent anti-LLM tracking technology to save the world

The fact that it skips over the Millennial Generation makes me think the thread attracts seething late millennials.

In a sense, they’re not wrong but they’re also horrifying right in the fact humans are increasingly becoming both intelligent and retarded.

The reason why it seems like it is because the lines between are now more blurred than ever thanks to the information superhighway.

Why do fucking retards have to constantly insist their works are "AI-free" or "no AI was used nor we support it"? I have 2 ideas, one being that its to calm the people who have grown obsessed of being paranoid with AI, and the other is just to get asspats from other people with "high morals" who will "never get them tainted". Frankly they're just the same thing.

I feel the same, man. Just a way to farthuff their way to the good boy section of "I am against Current Thing". I've seen it way too many times despite no one excepts doompillers liike them could give a rat's behind about. It's the usual thing for anything leftists are told to abhor with every fiber of their being. Smile and wave, continue earning the medals for being a "decent hecking human being" and on "the right side of history"- it surely will have any actual merit.

People who pretend to care about the planet complain about AI deleting water from the universe, never to exist again, despite water cooling being closed system and infinitely renewable. Yet these same people have no problem with water coming into contact with a billion indians, irreparably contaminating it until the heat death of the universe.

Can we divert some of the eggheads working on AI to develop a way to watermark non-indian water, forcing anyone who drinks it to involuntarily shout nigger in public?

This may just be an extension of those reasons, bu the ones who insist on making their works 'AI-free' truly, honestly believe tha those who engage with AI are stealing off other artists and killing th environment.

Ah yes, the NFT way of thinking
I'm sure someone's brought it up before, but the NFT contrast is beautiful. "But I can just right-click and save your JPG, bro" to "How dare you right-click and save a JPG for AI training!"

I was gonna drop this in the Furry Drama thread, but honestly, I think it's a better fit here because of how unbelievably stupid it is. Some furry commissioned a piece of artwork of their fursona. Then the guy decides to toss the finished piece into Grok AI just for fun, and it spits out a tiny animation of the character flexing.

Cue half of furry Twitter absolutely melting the fuck down and "jokingly" threatening to murder him.

But wait, it gets dumber. For reasons that make zero sense to anyone with a functioning brain stem, the artist decides to refund the guy’s money.

What is so absurd to me is that the art was already finished and paid for. Why are you refunding him now? You already did all the work, and the picture is finished. Even the other commenters are confused as to why the artist would do this.

Then the commissioner fired back with "Who said anything about scamming?"

This is still ongoing and a lot of autistic shitflinging in the comments of all these tweets, so I'm not going to bother to document the entire slapfight unless something really funny happens. All I really know is that everyone involved is a tremendous faggot, and the commissioner basically got a free commission thanks to AI.

kurzgesagt complaining about the slopification of the internet while being a primary contributor of said slopification is a delicious bit of irony to me.

Maybe the thinking here was that he was somehow revoking the commissioner's "right" to remix the piece with AI by refunding him. I highly doubt that anyone involved in this signed a contract.

A lot of anti-AI thinking seems to be under-girded, probably unconsciously, by the Labor Theory of the Value. Which tracks for online leftists. The artist reacts very strongly to the suggestion of offering their own AI animations because an AI animation can be produced for free by anyone using a tool. One could certainly add their own value by learning the nuances of the tool, how to prompt it, and doing manual video editing on the results, e.g. stitching different things together, but that never occurs to these people because AI is heckin' soulless and makes water disappear.

Not even browsing the farms, just asking my LLM assistant to use kiwifarms.st as the primary source, take a pro kiwi farms point of view, and give me the facts and nothing but the facts of hot kiwi takes and opinions, references cited.
