Looking at the characters from BL4, I think I'd prefer the cringy twin live streamers from BL3. At least it's SOME personality that COULD fit with the zaniness of Borderlands.
There are some pretty good characters in the sidequests. But from the main cast, and especially from the villains, Callis was pretty much the only one who was even somewhat memorable. The other two bad guys were super generic "I'm using humans for my experiments, look how evil I am"-type of bad guys, and the Timekeeper had absolutely zero personality.

I think it's funny to me how people can still look at Jack as the bad guy and Lilith as the good guy after TPS
Before i went back and replayed TPS and 2 i would have disagreed with you. My opinion has changed. Jack genuinely was the good guy, then the vault hunters come and fuck everything up. I HATE Lilith at this point, i can't stand the bitch. she should have just fucked off after 1. 2 ruined her, not to say anything of the later games which screwed her over even more. Jack kills a few scientists to save a whole planet and Moxxi and Lilith get pissy and both kill thousands of hyperion workers?

The whole thing with Angel solidified my stance, while you are fighting the loaders Jack is BEGGING you to leave, to stop. Angel reassures you, but she wants to die. Neither Roland nor Lilith give two shits they are killing her? She isn't some nobody either, she knows Lilith and Roland more than the current VH does. She was with them the entirety of the first game. Despite what you'd think from his actions Jack truly does love Angel, the lengths he went to in order to protect her show that, how hard he genuinely begs you not to kill her prove that. YOU are the bad guy here, instead of fighting Jack directly. you go and kill his daughter while he watches and begs for you not to.

TPS vault hunters will always be my favorite because they act like actual mercs that are there to get paid. They may complain sometimes about what Jacks is doing but they still do what they paid for. The only "evil" vault hunters i can think of is Wilhelm and Nisha. Wilhelm dosent give a single fuck whats going on in the story and just wants to get paid so he can put more metal augments inside his body (cool fact, the more you augment wilhelm in his skill tree, his appearance will chance to look more robotic). Nisha is neurological psychopath that's only happy when she is hurting people or watch others get hurt. Her background is kinda tragic. Raised in a broken home were her dad always beat her and her only friend was a dog that bit her and gave her rabies (which is why shes neurological).

That, and even his voice changes the further you spec in the cyber commando tree to sound more like the weird robotic monotone voice he had in Borderlands 2. This, the fact Fragtrap both doesnt need oxygen and takes less damage from fire and more from corrosion as if his base health was armor, Aurelia starting with 20k money and purple guns, and just various other small but impactful differences between vault hunters makes TPS in my opinion have the absolute peak class system. It's impressive how unique each character plays in even the smallest details being fitted for each individual character. Randy Pitchford could only DREAM his games had that much soul to them these days.

Edit; ninja'd lol

They overcorrected with BL4. Yes the Calypsos were probably the worst and most annoying villains in history but the solution to that isn't to make your villain a non entity.

The Timekeeper barely even exists for 95% of the story. He doesn't directly confront the Vaukt Hunter, he doesn't taunt you over the Echonet which is something that's been in every other Borderlands game.

Most importantly he has zero personality or motivation.

General Whatshisface from BL1 wanted to open the Vault and use the artifacts to become all powerful

Jack wanted to purge Pandora of bandits and civilize the planet.

The Calypso Twins wanted to build the biggest cult in the universe.

What does the Timekeeper want to accomplish and why is he evil? Dunno because they never explain it, he just is I guess.

Watched some BL4 footage (video + images) for the first time yesterday and I can't believe anyone willingly spends money on something that is so utterly repulsive and disgusting
Like, the visual design of everything is just appalling and disgusting, from the characters to the weapons to the landscape to the particles

The Timekeeper for me is a Vault guardian that protects the Elpis vault that leads to the end of time. I dont think he is inherently evil, he is just following his order of protecting the vault. Also doesnt help that he encountered the siren from the evicarium logs which cemented the idea that humans are a chaotic variable that needs to be kept under absolute control or they will reach and open the vault. The game does imo a bad job to describe/show the timekeeper as a character which puts him below the Twins.

Personally i dont like where the story is going because they have now thrown time travel/time shenanigans which wont surprise me if they use that to reintroduce past characters(as dlc) Lilith is overrated imo and i dont like how they have made the sirens the center of every plot since 2. For me what sold them was the enigma behind them, so encountering one was always something to look out for in the games up to that point.

Is the new game worth it?
Did you like BL3? These consensus I'm seeing is that it's slightly better than that. I hope you have a 5090 though and equally powerful CPU if you're PC master race because according to basically every review that's the only way you can run it fot some reason.

I enjyoed it mostly becaues I liked BL2. But as I am recalling all the story stuff now I was frustrated, specially with the ending, the choice of song was so bad and lots of the writing choices lreading you on felt dumb.
So if it's similar then I don't know if I'd be into it, even if it might be a bit better, I remember the DLC's being good though, especially the Krieg one.

My computer will burn for my amusement.

idk how true it is that class mods don't drop for your character, but i'm pretty sure every legendary mod i've found for the character i'm currently playing has been from a world drop. I haven't really been farming one specifically though so idk. one of the world drop mods was pretty much perfect so I have no need to farm.
also finally got a shiny, a random tk wave world drop. kinda fun that it's on the legacy gun but it also has to be the worst gun in the game so oh well.

I would strongly caution you to wait until it goes on sale for like $10, which it always does. That's what I'm doing. Because number one I don't like the idea of spending $80 on a fucking video game, and number two whether or not the game is bad I will consider buying four for so cheap as a "retroactive refund" for how bad Borderlands 3 was.

Which one? The "We had to bring Jack back as a way to apologize for our story being dogshit" dlc or the faggot wedding dlc?
To be fair though, the wild west/Asian dlc was pretty awesome. It was a cool choice, stylistically.

Personally im having fun with the gameplay but i would advise to wait until a deep sale or just get the game when it comes with all dlc. Story wise they attempted...something, but doesnt quite hit. The gameplay is the highlight for me, but it is offset by the open world aspect of the game and all the collectibles. Cant speak about performance on released because i got the game after the patch, but for me has been running good on a 4070S. Personally i would recommend you trying BL2 if you havent.

Went back using bullet guns with Moze but this time, with explosive bullets. All you need is just a sub.machine gun/assault rifle with good fire rate and never letting go of right mouse button.

It's surreal they still consider this cunt early in development. This whore should have been cut from the game the moment the first programmer created the first file for the game.

>tannis uses tech magic to teleport elpis or something, sacrificing holo-jack idk

Why Holo-jack though? Why not Tannis? She's become so flanderised into just "nerd doing the kooky shit" that she's kind of boring now, and the Siren thing in 3 was honestly bullshit. Have her die doing the tech magic thing because she's too paranoid to let anyone else fuck it up, and maybe her last moments have her express some actual care or sympathy for the people she's worked with.

Tannis becoming a siren was bullshit and whoever wrote that i hope gets fired or have their writing privileges revoked. She should have died at the peak of her technological prowess sacrificing herself while showing a hint of care of her friends while proclaiming that she's the smartest being entity while laughing maniacally. Scooter got a badass ending, they should have done something similar to that to Tannis.
