The Simpsons Movie will return for a sequel 20 years after the original, 20th Century Studios and Disney confirmed on Monday.

Based on Fox's popular and long-running animated sitcom - which follows the lives of Homer, Marge and their three children, Bart, Lisa and Maggie - the as-yet untitled sequel is set to be released on 23 July 2027.

The first film, released in 2007, saw Homer accidentally pollute the water supply of Springfield and then attempt to save his family and city, which had been sealed off under a huge glass dome.

The poster for the new film, shared on various social media platforms, shows a doughnut being grabbed alongside the tagline: "Homer's coming back for seconds."

Excited fans posted in the comments underneath, with many satirising the show's opening credits to show images of Bart writing lines on a school blackboard, which read: "I will not wait 20 years to make another movie."

The Simpsons first appeared in 1987 as cartoon shorts on another US TV show, before getting their own one two years later.

Created by Matt Groening, it has now aired for 37 seasons. And it was recently renewed through to season 40, which will air in 2028/29.

The first movie, directed by David Silverman, grossed an estimated $536 million (£400m) at the global box office, and there had been rumours in the press of a sequel for years but nothing was confirmed until now.

Showrunner Matt Selman recently told Variety that streaming had helped the series not only remain relevant to older viewers but also gain new fans.

"Now, instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever," he said.

I never liked the shading of that film, looks cheap. Anyway, I hope this woke shit bombs.

It’s Latinos who are making Fox keep this show on life support. Latinos worship American culture and love this show despite its obvious downfall. Americans have seen the downfall and have stopped tuning in. I was born around the time the show started to decline in quality and I have only seen Simpsons merch a handful of times (and I live in a border state). The Simpsons will die when its overseas fandoms die.
Can we blame beaners for Family Guy still being on air, too?

Dear Latino's,

We know we kick ass and appreciate you worshipping all our creations, unlike those filthy goddamn Jeets and Jews. But you've got to let us create some new shit. TV shows aren't suppose to live forever. Lets find you a new pet to buy merchandise of. Besides, that Matt Goeing guy has so much money he was banging kids with Epstein. No one wants to support that.

Sincerely,
The Master Race

Some people say that the Simpsons Movie was the series jumping the shark.

But the series was already dead and in its grave at that point. The Movie was just dropping a tombstone on it.

I was on Google Maps and on the street view of rural Mexico and I saw a painting of Homer on a house by the side of the road.

The first movie missed the show's goldenage by nearly a decade. Nowthe idea that it was"only" a decade too late sounds, if anything, quaint. They were so close.

This.
Reminder Bolivia had a fucking nationwide riot when they wanted to move the simpsons to a later hour so they could had put in a newer show:

Bolivia is a communist hellhole narco-estate where cocaine is legalized and a couple of my friends who were stupid enough to visit because it was cheap had to pretend they had relatives working at interpol and the brazilian embassy on call because the taxi driver was kidnapping them and taking away from city center into a cartel controlled slum, it's the india of latin america.

But what does make the people come en masse to face police firing live ammo or cartel members?
Fucking Simpsons.

Yeah no thanks.

Still pissed that the first movie had literally every single regular Simpsons character in it except for Sideshow Bob (who is the best character of the whole show), btw.

Long after it ceased to be good I used to put Simpsons episodes on as background noise. Sure they weren't funny anymore and even dumb but it gave good nostalgia. That is until Marge's voice became unendurable. Now I can't even have it playing in the same room anymore. She sounds like she smoked a pallet of Marlboros in every scene and it just keeps getting worse. If the show must go on and they must keep collecting a paycheck wish she'd give permission to have them deepfake her classic voice and then take a nice paid vacation for the rest of the run.

Kelsey Grammer is right-wing so obviously he wasn't invited.

Have you heard Marge Simpson current voice.
They’re either going to have to limit her voice time a lot or it’s gonna ruin the movie. Also
It comes out 2 years from now. They should record all her lines first before everyone else.

It’s a great example of the cultural rot and stagnancy, that this slop has been airing for two decades.

Should have cancelled it after the first ten seasons.

Two decades, Simpson started like in 1989 on the Tracy ullman show, so closer to 4 decades than not.

It won't be a popular idea but I think of you bite the bullet and get a new crop of voice actors you could make the Simpson's reliable 6-7/10 television again.

It's the definition of a average show.

That would make modern Grandpa a Gulf War veteran
Homer started out a child of the 60's, now he was an 80's kid. The boomer became a millennial

Modern Homer was a kid during the time of the show's first season, when Homer was pretty well into adulthood

The no aging thing becomes more and more bizarre the longer the show goes on
