The matchmaking has gone to shit in the UFC over the past couple of years.
They load Fight Night cards with 16-0 fighters going against 5-28 nobodies because it guarantees a KO finish. The last dozen Fight Nights have been filled top to bottom with mismatches. Casuals love it because the cards are nonstop action. It gives UFC highlight reels as well.

I still think Jean is really good, Diego's just an absolute monster.
Silva was finding Lopes' chin in the 2nd, but Lopes just happens to have a cinderblock for a head.

I don't think Silva got 'exposed.' He just got a friendly taste of what top tier competition feels like.
The matchmaking has gone to shit in the UFC over the past couple of years. It's 90% utter-fucking-nobody with a 6-0 record in some regional promotion versus a journeyman who is fighting stay on the roster and the matches end up being a coin flip as a result.
When you're 5-1, 6-2 on the locals/regionals and the UFC calls you, hang up the phone. Dana and Hunter are about to sacrifice you to some up-and-comer.

Well, now that every Fighting Nerd has lost in the UFC, here's my thoughts going over every one of them from best to worst:

Jean is still really good. Probably the best, fastest striker at FW with a fuckton of power. And even if the KO doesn't come, he can still submit you. What I think was his undoing was his fight iq (or lack thereof) and his grappling defense. Jean was piecing the fuck out of Diego when he picked up the pace in the second round and pushing him back. The issue was in the first round that he threw a spinning kick way too close which let Diego get ahold of him. Then in the second he got way too overzealous after piecing up Diego so he rushed like a retard and ended up getting chinned. Still really impressive to do what he did to Diego. I think he has every tool in his arsenal to become a champ one day, time will tell if he can make proper use of them.

Caio is probably the most well-rounded of the team. He is the toughest, most durable and has the strongest chin out of the bunch. He is good everywhere, it's no wonder he cleaned house up until now. But he really doesn't excel at anything. I think he gives anyone trouble, but he can't hang with people where they are at their best (i.e: Imavov's boxing). I think he'll be a top 5 staple like Cannonier once was, maybe he'll get a title shot once or twice but I don't see him ever becoming champion.

Carlos is very elusive, has real knockout power and his lanky physique make it hell for his opponents to reach him. But that's it. His game is very one-dimensional. If you can render him useless on the feet or get ahold of him, he has nothing for you. I see him as someone a la Gaethje or prime Wonderboy. Incredibly fun entertaining fighter to watch, but he is just not anywhere championship level. I don't think he can hang with the likes of Shavkhat, Brady or even Belal.

Ruffy sucks. He's good on the feet, has decent amount of power of his own, but he cannot grapple to (almost literally) save his life. Benoit might have been a really hyped up prospect once, but his fights with Poirier and Moicano really showed that he's not anywhere near top level. Ruffy had no answer for Benoit and got effortlessly grapple fucked and submitted. It was actually embarrassing to watch as someone who believed in him. I can maybe see Ruffy having competitive fights with the likes of Rebecki, Ludovit, Orolbai, Bahamondes (though I have my doubts), but anyone higher up would be too much for him. I don't think he's going anywhere.

I don’t recall which round it was in, but Molly threw a 1-2, dipped her head and rushed forward, and absolutely headbutted the shit out of her opponent. The reffing on that entire card was hilarious.

It was truly an astonishingly bad card and other than as revenue, there was no reason to pad it out for as long as they did. Almost an hour and thirty minutes for each outing, not barring the theatrics. I had a friend there who told me that were it not for the 40 dollar jagerbombs he was going into debt for, he would’ve passed out before the Vargas fight.

Not only were all of the fights a slog, but was it really necessary to hold mini-concerts before the main event… just to have another live performance for Canelo’s walkout? Canelo’s walkout takes longer than any of the Undertaker’s, and that’s insane to me.

Boxing is fucked
If they cut the two shit fighters and just had the Mbilli-Martinez and then the main event, the mini concert walkouts would be fine. It's a big market, casual boxing audience fight, and for as much as a netflix subscription. No one wants to sit through the undercard fights to just watch the big main event. Should have just been those two fights on the stream. If it was just that - fantastic event. About maybe 3 hours long, can have the cool war co-main (which was guaranteed because of who Mbilli is as a fighter), then Crawford-Canelo.

But they fucked it completely. For all of Dana talking a big game about making the event go fast, its clear this is Turki's event and Turki's decisions.

My parents turned on the card and watched the Mbilli-Martinez fight. My dad was really impressed but I have no idea if they stayed up late enough to actually watch the main event.

Jean is still really good.
Great fighter, but the antics are lost on me. Easy enough to ignore them and just tune into the fights. That was a great scrap while it lasted vs Lopes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s those two fighting for the title within the next year.
as someone who believed in him

Ruffy sucks.
Yeah…. I actually like Ruffy a lot but I don’t see him getting beyond the top 5.

hernandez out.webp
Hernandez out, Allen in. Costa claims he agreed to the fight, but reports are he only accepted a three rounder. Brendan Allen should not be anywhere near a title fight, so I guess this means Imavov-Chimaev is in the works.

Apparently BJ Penn has been arrested again, 5th time this year, for once again violating the restraining order his mum has. Naturally because we live in clown world he was given a token bail, which he immediately posted. At this rate I'm honestly expecting to hear he's killed someone in the not too distant future.

His "glowniggers replaced my family with clones" arc is peak schizokino.

Knacker Mc Tapper is rambling on about fighting UFC 2-5 Mike "The Choke" Chandler at the Whitehouse card.

If the company lets that utter shite go ahead on possibly their biggest card ever then it just proves how far they've fallen.
