It's different now. Back then people were being canceled for telling the truth about the covid vaccine or refusing to take it, or some dumb shit they drunkenly said on social media 20 years ago. People are getting in trouble now for inciting violence, lying about felonies which could result in more acts of terrorism, and other things that never have been nor ever will be covered by the first amendment.
Free speech is not absolute. There has always been limitations.

I actually disagree with the second part of this, and pretty strongly, it was kind of my main point. It allows States to regulate whatever they want and would dissolve a lot of the political strife.

I was going to add the gun control example to my previous comment. It totally makes it moot, and it makes a lot more sense why the 2nd Amendment is so broad and absolute. States would regulate it as they see fit, same for the rest. I'm fine if libs wants to be a gay hellhole that I never have to deal with, and preventing them from wanting to move to neighboring States is a good thing.

Historically the right-wing doesn't do anything, so I would expect the sleeping giant to go right the fuck back asleep now that Antifa is a terror organization and even a late night talk show host got just about shitcanned. Meaning that the cancellations are probably going to be a short-term run before we go back to business as usual, just with more respect being enforced.

Don't get me wrong though, there are more than enough genies out of the bottle to fuck things up even worse. The right wing doesn't have practice with doing the bullshit guerilla politics the left wing has been up to for the past decade. One misstep and things could really go down the drain for all I know.

That's why it's retarded to act like NOW you have to support these clowns or you're not really pro free speech. Wrong. Now we've got to clean this mess and level the playing field. More heads need to roll and then after a healthier society and environment is created (because the current one is sick to its core) we can talk about free speech again.
