I used to be a fan of Doug as well. He was pretty funny back in the day and there was that novelty of someone reviewing movies and shows I grew up with. But then came the memes and crossovers and it started getting old.

If Doug was smart. He would have semi-retired the character. Doing only the occasional review every 3-4 months or whatever. Then taking the money he earned and investing it. Taking 100-200K to buy a fucking studio in Chicago and thinking you and a literal handful of people could create content to rival Funny or Die is epically re tar ded. Doug and his brother clearly didn't consider the higher taxes in Chicago and the fact that Chicago has a minimal entertainment industry. Thinking that they could meaningfully compete with Hollywood was incredibly naive. These guys can't even compete with Bollywood.

Their recent content doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as 'barrels'

I read this in Brad's voice.

At least Bollywood is entertaining. And I certainly agree, even back when I was fan I thought it was incredibly stupid to bring back the Nostalgia Critic after they made an entire movie just to send off the character. But he realized NC was the only thing anybody wanted to see and now his videos are even worse because of how dry his creative well is, not to mention the over-reliance on sketches.

The sketches were really what killed NC for me back in the day since it felt like 70% of them went on for far too long and were barely related to the movie. At least in the older vids the jokes were tangentially related to the movie, since that's what I wanted to see back then, just him cracking jokes at movies (this was well before I discovered MST3K, who had, you know, talent). Of course, the older I got the less funny even his older material got anyway so it probably didn't matter in the long run.

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter. Most, if not all, of Doug's stuff has aged (or soon will) like sour milk. It hurts even watching one of his old reviews because you compare one with a more recent one and you notice there's no change.

Doug was always bad, it's just that most of the rivals were either more obscure than he was, or even worse than he was.

Most Bollywood films have real production values. The sets and songs/dancing are usually very lavish and would make Doug Walker's "work" look absolutely poverty by comparison. Doug Walker might be able to compete with Nollywood (the Nigerian film industry) but even something like Who Killed Captain Alex has charm and the excuse that the filmmakers literally had maybe a few dollars in the budget.

I don't watch any of this guy's videos since I already hate seeing him in my recommendations as it is, but does he even like The Simpsons? Like seriously, how can you claim to even be a Simpsons fan and dislike Bart? He's one of the most iconic characters for a reason.
I'm wondering that myself. I mean I would assume he means Bart's modern characterization (which, like everyone else, has gone down the shitter). But if he means classic era Bart, something tells me he's got some deep-seated issues he doesn't want to bring up.

Die-hard Simpsons spergs generally fail at understanding the show is (or was) a lighthearted parody of contemporary pop culture and family life. Bart's character is actually quite deep, but people who take the show at face value see only a petty bully.

These are the same people who don't realize Milhouse is a weenie who largely deserves the flak he gets in-universe and use him as a vehicle for their Nice Guy fantasies.

Exactly. I've watched the show god knows how many times, and even I know Bart's not a petty bully (at first, as I said, the show made everyone's characterization worse or nonexistant over time). Hell, seasons 2-6 made that pretty obvious.

This guy tries way too hard...and he doesn't like Bart?! How?

Eat my shorts Strider!

I personally don't think it's fair to have the Clip Show episodes in there, they're a product of the era. Also a fat man dancing next to a woman was the talk of the country in the UK a while back.

I do agree with his pick for number 1 though. God that episode was shit.

And Lisa sucks.

I think he just dislikes Bart since he probably just sees him as a brat and a bully. And of course, enlightened, progressive Lisa is his favorite. Just your usual thing of autistic internet dwellers to dislike "mean" characters and love the progressive, Steven Universe-like Lisa.

I wouldn't be surprised he he also thought Marge was a "deep, well-rounded" character as well.

So, by that logic, @SolidMario is the complete opposite of a diehard Simpsons sperg.
