If you're right then I'm happy. I'm just sharing the same concern as Louis that some laws will get passed but they'll be butchered and useless, like the Right to Repair laws Louis has been complaining about.

SKG would force Microsoft to either provide a working Windows version without a license check, or an offline license check, or to keep the activation servers up forever.

The latter is what they've been doing, and I doubt they'll change that anytime soon.

I believe it might be some sour grapes from Louis. Louis has attempted to do his own "right to repair" campaigns across the US with little fanfare and mixed (at best) success. The gist of Louis's movement is that manufacturers of electronics (and some mechanical items) shouldn't be able to gatekeep schematics or parts from consumers so they have the ability to repair something themselves or go to a third party repair shop (like himself). I may have missed some details but that's the general take I remember from his older campaigns.

As mentioned, Louis hasn't generated nearly as much buzz around this movement and hasn't been as successful here in the US, so it probably hits him in the feels to see someone who is passionate without being an expert actually making a change. I could see how Louis would want to "big bro" him and try to give Ross advice even though Louis hasn't accomplished what he himself set out to do despite him being a repair "expert."

Hard agree. Louis is super passionate about consumer rights, it would have been a huge help just to point Ross in the right direction. Ross has the charisma and love for video games to get people behind it, he just needed help with actually running a successful initiative. We could have seen results from SKG years ago if Ross actually knew what people to reach out to.

As is the case in my country, connecting to the ECI page from an IP/ISP/geo-located check from the country you state to sign it from doesn't require you to provide an eID/European equivalent of an SSN. Name, address, DOB is enough, but the moment I access the page from a neighboring country that is literally a couple miles away, the form asks for additional ways of verification.
