I doubt that they're putting their careers at risk. As part of the plea deal, Assistant County Attorney Kristen Pierce probably gave assurances to Nick that she would fight against the bodycam coming out. As for Judge Wentzell, it would be a bit embarrassing for the appeals court to overturn his decision but that's hardly career ruining. It's part of the judicial process. (Also, it's worth the risk. Most decisions are not overturned.)Mmm, could be, but the weird as fuck dedication from the sheriff and judge just baffle me, going to the point of actively risking their careers by going against protocol.
Again, I'm not sure there's active corruption going on. It's more like passive corruption. Something akin to 'But for the kids!' and the evils of the mean Internet giving Pierce and Wentzell a higher calling. Some nonsense like that.
OR they don't want the bodycam coming out because, thus far, there has not been any local protest to Nick's plea deal. (The local paper hasn't even covered it.)
If the residents of the County see the body cam, that could change.
