And like always, his mindless fanboys will treat this review as "marvelous".

Have Doug's fans ever mentioned why they like his reviews so much? I kinda imagine most of his obsessive fandom to have a strong case of fat-ism and tism...

It's like you said:
:autism:
Don't think too much beyond that, besides blind conformity and inability to express opinions or taste worth a damn, anyway...

I always imagined Doug's audience was made up of younger people that are too stupid to realize he is not as deep and meaningful as he pretends to be, or people that just like anyone who references things they have seen/grew up with. I'm mostly going off of the videos that are posted here, but it also looks like Doug plays things pretty safe in terms of what he reviews, which I would imagine makes it easier to draw in videos.

Pretty much. I was one of those younger people who watched him in his heyday and when I got older I realized how shallow his videos are. He's a critic in the loosest sense of the term; most critics have an idea of the art of movies and what goes into them and thus are able to explain what works and what doesn't work in a movie. Doug meanwhile can't articulate criticisms beyond surface-level problems, which he tries to compensate for with his stupid sketches. Also his style of comedy is also surprisingly juvenile, and I mean that more in the sense that it appeals more to younger people who will pretty much laugh at anything.

The few fans of his I've know irl have said that they like seeing a "critical" look at shows and movies they used to watch when they were children, and find it funny to see someone pick apart how ridiculous the movies they used to watch were. Of course that was maybe 5 or 6 years ago and I think Doug has moved past any sort of old nostalgic movies so that reason doesn't really hold up. Of the 3 irl Doug fans I know only one still religiously watches his content because he enjoys it and finds it funny, 1 watches occasionally in the hopes he'll review something he used to enjoy, and one refuses to watch any of his new stuff but rewatches his old videos frequently.

I think part of it was that Doug apparently used to reference TV Tropes, so Tropers felt happy someone was actually acknowledging their exceptional website.

That just makes things worse - after all, tropes are definitely not a valid criticism. Cliches might be, but that's where it begins and ends, at least IMHO. At least I like to think we know part of why taking anything Doug says seriously at a certain age point (preferably any age approaching high school, if you really want a good head start, again - IMHO) is not recommended.

Given how long he's been at it, it won't be long before the Nostalgia Critic is itself nostalgic.
Probably showing how deep I was back then, but there was a lyric in that song SadPanda made for him that somewhat mentioned that and how it would be ironic.

Did anybody else pay any attention to SadPanda? He seemed pretty funny if only because he realized how stupid the whole "angry critic" thing was.

The times he collaborated with Phelous or did a cameo were entertaining since they played off each other very well.

Yeah... Unfortunately, I admit that that's mostly what I remember SadPanda for, courtesy of re-watching Phelous vids (good guy, BTW, at least IMHO.). I could use a refresher on what he did and if he still does it (hopefully well, too), however.

I think SadPanda only did videos very sparingly. I believe they're hosted on Phelous's site somewhere.

*Quick edit* They don't have their own section, but you can search for them on Phelous's site and get a couple of results, but it looks like most are crossovers.

Most of what TV Tropes call tropes aren't. Tropes in literature are things like metaphors and allegories.

Taking anything Doug says seriously at any age is daft.

I've only known two Doug fans irl, and both have had a superficial interest in him at most. One, who was into him in his heyday, thought his schtick and memes were funny and liked how he brought their attention to infamously bad movies, but they eventually outgrew him and quit. The other, who got into him recently and favors his current content, claims to like him as a critic, but mostly seems to praise him for bashing movies they disliked (see also: why anyone would like MovieBob, probably).

why isn't this thread in Community Watch
If I recall correctly, like Somari1996 said it started out in Community Watch, but it was moved here because there was a lot of general discussion of angry critics & their content, but not a whole lot of "hey, look at this behavior they're doing that shows the community is full of lolcows".

His old videos were about failing to remember the plot of a thing he claimed to have seen ages ago.

I used to watch him ages ago. I was amused by some of the stupid memes and was interested in some of the ridiculous 80's-ish movies that I somehow missed.

I think it was Kickassia that killed the entire thing for me. With no nolstalgic material to work with, it was just a bunch of spazzy idiots acting like exceptional individuals.

I sat through that entire "Movie", waiting for some sort of comedic payoff that never came. I didn't laugh once. It was agonizing.

After that, I couldn't watch any Channel Autism content without being painfully aware and annoyed by the stupid skits, manchildish overreactions, and general autism.

I peek in every now and then to see how far the dumpster fire of a channel is falling. The Spoony, Jewario, and Demo Reel dramas have been highly amusing, as has watching them panic after Blip.TV died.

I gave it a look a few months ago and I think it's hitting the bottom of the barrel. They were reviewing the super-nostalgic Batman V Superman while it was still in theaters.

And since they didn't have clips, they just had their failed actors from Demo Reel dressing up and re-enacting scenes while giving almost no actual "Reviewing" of the movie.

It was one of the most pathetic things I'd ever seen, but the fans were hailing this "Clipless" review style as high art of something.

I honestly don't know how much further they can fall...

Their recent content doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as 'barrels'
