Most landlords in cities refuse to work with the “transitional housing” programs from the homeless shelters because without fail most of the apartments they get homeless clients into get utterly trashed and ruined within six months. In the USA it’s became an entire scam industry where “sober living homes” get paid Medicaid bucks to put these ppl up in squalid dwellings for large sums of money. You have to pay large sums for ppl to be willing deal with all the BS it entails.

Cooling centers include places like libraries and parks with splash pads, so they're mostly already open anyway. It boggles my mind that she threw such a twitter tantrum a few years ago about living in NYC for its accessibility when all she bitches about is that nothing is accessible and everything is insufferable. I'd have more respect for her if she just set piles of money on fire instead of going to these lengths to be as embarrassingly helpless and entitled as possible. At least the cyclical lack of creativity and constructive problem solving in the face of adversity (then preventing the problem from happening again in the first place) continues to be hilarious every time, especially when sandwiched between the academic/intellectual superiority complex routine.

When Vicky started pushing to get the power chair, her parents and the medical professionals in her life begged her not to. They tried to warn her that if she started using a medically unnecessary wheelchair it wouldn't be long before her muscles wasted away and she really would have mobility issues. This was a catastrophic error on their part: Vicky knew damn well that's what would happen and it was a huge part in why she wanted it.

Vicky thought that by pretending to be disabled, she'd found a cheat code to life: parents, teachers and society at large would be forced to wait on her hand and foot. No more cleaning my room! Special attention from my professors! My parents have to support me financially for the rest of my life.

The most recent college arc in particular has shown her that isn't the case, and even for the very wealthy living in a modern city, there are a ton of extra hurdles for disabled people that they're expected to handle on their own.

Her mobility is nowhere near as bad as her LARP would suggest, but even if she was 100% healthy prior to grifting the power chair, she definitely can't just climb out of it now and go back to acting like a normal person again. Anyone who's had to wear one of those moonboots for a broken foot can tell you how rapidly the supporting muscles and tendons atrophy, and even something as minor as four weeks in it will require a reasonably disciplined round of rehab. I have no idea what the rehab of getting out of a power chair would look like, but given she couldn't do the rehab to strengthen her sore hip to avoid going into it in the first place, it's safe to say Vicky is fucked.
