How come consoles that associate themselves with power end up having long term issues? PlayStation 3 had the YLoD because of bad capacitors, the original Xbox as well has bad clock capacitors that would burst over time, I recall the Sega CD having disc read errors or bad marketing.
All caps fail eventually, whether they're in a game console or a clock radio.

I can't play games without achievements, but the kind that push you to do things you wouldn't otherwise do. Tomb Raider Remaster is fucking S++ tier in achievements. Small little things you have to do here and there in a level that aren't hard but require going out of your way to do. And then you've done them. 100%ed the map. Never again. No retarded "now replay the game xD" type slop.
I’m the same way. If a game has unobtainable achievements, that’s a pass for me. It’s content that I am unable to access. It’s harder for me to get back into “retro” games because they don’t have achievements. Does PC have a workaround for that?

The more electricity flowing through parts, the more heat stresses and physical expansion/deformation/etc, the more likely they are to break. So if you use cheap, shitty parts, they're going to break. The OXbox and Xbox 360 were notoriously badly-built machines. Both the PS3 and 360 had issues with lead-free solder, which was new at the time, so people didn't understand how to use it well (leaded solder is still the way to go, but the government decided it's killing the planet).

kinda surprising there isn't a thread on here that's akin to the Sony Hate thread or Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition
There's the Nintendo Fanbase Stupidity thread.

mmorpg with casino rng, pretty much like anything that comes out of south korea it's filled to the brim with safe horny shit because porn is banned in that shithole of a country.
they beat even japanese in the safe horny department because it's just the way it is.
Safe horny has a different meaning here, but I understand what you mean.

Really? Breath of the wild was a total revamp of zelda and its fundamental structure. Metroid Dread was a horror stealth game focused around a skill based parry mechanic completely shifting its pacing to always keep the player on the back foot. They do things all the time that risk alienating players in favor of trying something new.
Can't speak for those specific games.

But Mario? Run to the right while grabbing coins. Zelda? I wonder which order the bomb, the bow, and the boomerang will be in this time! Smash? Which new character will the fanbase throw a tantrum over this time? Mario Party? Requires a degree in Nintendo bullshittery to be able to tell any of them apart.

Yes, I'm being reductive. But for context. During the Xbox days, Call of Duty was widely mocked for being a "$60 map pack" despite each game being a completely different time, place, and story. Meanwhile, Mario Kart has been the same shit with the same balance and gameplay issues since Mario Kart 64. It wasn't until Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed that Nintendo finally decided to start fixing things.

Maybe it's because they're using untested technology?

Call of Duty 4 and World at War have near identical skeletons, but each experience is different in execution. Art design, tone, atmosphere, storytelling, all of that can make a difference. So yes, they could be considered “identical” but they are not 1:1 the same game.

Because the current Call of Duty is targeted at the people who played last year's Call of Duty, and therefore remember it well, while the current iteration of any Nintendo tentpole franchise is targeted at people who were still in diapers (or didn't exist) when the last one was out, therefore have no memories of it and don't care about innovation. The biggest mistake Nintendo ever made was letting Shigeru Miyamoto refuse to make games that bored him, personally, "because he'd already done that before." Telling that self-important nerd to shut the fuck up and start making games for kids again revitalized the company.

If you're old enough to remember Mario Kart 64, Nintendo doesn't care what you want. At most, they hope the good memories you have of the N64 will get you to buy Mario Kart for your grandson, to whom Rainbow Road will be a wonderful, new experience. Because if you remember MK64, 50 is not as far away as you think it is if you're not already there.

What I saw of the remaster takes away the spirit of the game.
If it can run on a modern system I don't see the point.
The point is for publishers to get another bite at the apple from a property with an existing fanbase. It's cheaper to develop than a new game and is usually already known and well-regarded so far less marketing is required.

If you're contemplating artistic merit or "the spirit of the game" or anything like that, you've already put way more thought into it than whoever greenlit the project.

I see remasters or remakes as a litmus test on to see if a dormant series is still relevant since its original launch.

I remember Jim Sterling giving Mario Kart 7 a lower rating than MW3 despite both titles being derivative of their series.

You can argue that since Nintendo doesn’t make Mario Kart annual, it’s justified. I think Double Dash had two items, Wii added motorcycles and online play, 7 had underwater and flying (didn’t Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed do that first?) and 8 added zero gravity, upside down tracks.

So far, each entry of Mario Kart has been innovative in some way. And they exist once per platform.

I think I have an addiction of buying old physical games. There’s something about opening a game, reading the manual and having a tangible copy of it that makes it more enjoyable than playing it.

New gamers will never understand the feeling of opening up your newly bought game and reading the manual on the way home. Learning and immersing yourself in the world is lost as not only do most gamers not read companies no longer make detailed manuals anymore.

This has been mentioned before in the thread, but with its PC release the culture war around it is heating up again...
Stellar Blade is a 5, maybe 6/10 game that is profoundly forgettable and mediocre, but gets propped up unduly because it upsets the right people. I can't believe how many people I thought prestigious in my circles are propping up that game. I suppose horseshoe theory strikes again.

Completely agree that Stellar Blade is mediocre, or mildly-above-average at best as a game
Plus, Eve's physique is really fucking dire with that hyperlordosis
Actually that's something I've already said before, might as well just quote it
Also the ridiculous lordosis on Eve
When she's running, she's bent over to the point that, below the chest, these might as well be the hind legs of a four-legged animal

For now I'm lauding Eve from Stellar Blade as an example of horrifying lumbar lordosis

Last time I checked, humans are creatures that walk upright, but she has more in common with a horse

I’m glad the modding scene is going to make those people even more upset.

Also i need a REmake 3 Jill Valentine mod for Stellar Blade pronto.
