Nostalgia and pandering to children. If the Steam Deck wasn't just a handheld gaming PC, and there was more mainstream competition for handheld consoles, the Switch would be sunk.
No, because the primary market for handhelds will always be children, and everyone else is too fucking stupid to just give kids what kids like, they always shit it up with diversity or some garbage.

I don't care for hyperrealism in videogames and I think most of the time it's a waste of development resources and CPU/GPU power. If I want an experience that's 100% true to real life I'll just go outside.
I dislike it even more when devs tout their games as having 'life-like graphics' when all it means is that the game looks visually pretty but is basically a static diorama with nothing to blow up or any interesting environmental interactions. In the real world shit breaks, if a games is gonna be hyper realistic I expect physics interactions.

In the last 10 years, I've had to roll back broken drivers to get a game to work zero times. Not saying it never happens, but it's not like it was 20-25 years ago, when Detonator drivers broke everything.
You know for a fact that the meme that AMD has shitty drivers will never die, sir. Arguing against it is like yelling at the tide.

It's a shame that destructible environments are still such a resource hog. I can name all the games that have it on the fingers of one hand. Mercernaries 1 and 2, Red Faction and RF Guerrilla... what else is there that doesn't have Minecraft quality graphics?

people throwing temper tantrums online whenever a company makes a decision that's disliked has gotten to a point where i find it annoying and exhausting, while some of it is valid its just gotten to a point where any new game is pre-empitevly shit on, I feel like a lot of people in the 12-21 age range were never told no and this is the result of it
For me, it's the opposite (or I didn't understand your post). It's the temper tantrums over not consooming that confuse, frustrate, and annoy.

Maybe it's rose tinted glasses, but the old console wars, as stupid as they were, were just arguments over who had the best games, or who had the best version of Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat. Being blocked, threatened with bans, and losing friends over something as trivial as linking a video complaining that the Switch 2 has issues is wild to me. As is saying you must applaud shitty games to "own the chuds".

Even older than that. Throughout the 10s,
Even older than that. In the late 00s you were expected to shit on every popular bit of media or else be accused of sucking corporate cock. God help you if you mention liking Call of Duty unironically.

Minecraft with a texture pack?

that would be the other end of it, I do find that consoomerist sperging annoying as well, its that I tend to encounter the other end of people just complaining no matter what more across shit like Twitter and YouTube more often, I feel as if the way the modern Internet is set-up that having nuance about anything is discouraged especially with Video Games, its to a lot of morons a game is either the second coming of Christ or the worst game of all time, nothing in between and it just gets exhausting.

Deep Rock Galactic, No Man's Sky, Battlefield series.

Not an unpopular opinion per say but I firmly believe the reason people dip in and out of games so quickly, myself included, is just the general speeding up of media consumption and doomscrolling. I can be 100% into a game one day and want to uninstall and refund it the next. The best moments I've had in gaming has been hours of just complete obsession with a game. Same way you don't see people devoting so much of their person to a game that they'll afk in stormwind just to chat with guildies. Nah, now it's Discord and playing something else.

Videogames are so time consuming that people develop sunk cost mentality about it and take it really personally.

Find a good game and stay loyal and true. You won't do any better by playing the field.

kinda surprising there isn't a thread on here that's akin to the "Sony Hate thread" or "Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition
Honestly, you could probably make one and it would be semi-popular here. I do know some users here who absolutely hate how Xbox is going rn.

EDIT: Didn't realize both of these threads existed, read it wrong like a retard lol, mb.

I think it's also more when you grow up, you kinda just become more decisive on what you like and want to use your time more efficiently. I either play a game, replay it, 100% it with 200 hours, or I play a game with 2 hours and say "that was fun" and go to the next game, or read a book or something idk.

Thread tax: Not really unpopular, but more games should do boss rushes or/and make single boss rematches available. I am just surprised this isn't as a big of a standard

I'm playing this one piece of shit called Lords of the Fallen, it came out in like 2014 back when the PS4 was new and I'm trying my damndest to finish it. I'm trying to develop that sunk cost mentality because I've already put like 4 hours into it but the reality is that I just don't fucking care. I hate having unfinished games but actaully finishing games is like having fishhooks removed from my thumbs.

I don't know Black Desert. Explain?
mmorpg with casino rng, pretty much like anything that comes out of south korea it's filled to the brim with safe horny shit because porn is banned in that shithole of a country.
they beat even japanese in the safe horny department because it's just the way it is.

This is not.
Really? Breath of the wild was a total revamp of zelda and its fundamental structure. Metroid Dread was a horror stealth game focused around a skill based parry mechanic completely shifting its pacing to always keep the player on the back foot. They do things all the time that risk alienating players in favor of trying something new.

Specifically, risking alienating Nintenmanbabies who don't venture outside Nintendo's garden, such as...

It was the most basic bitch open world game. Ubisoft towers when people were already sick of them five years beforehand, a massive sandbox filled with nothing but collecathon trash, and a severe lack of enemy variety.

If it was instead a game called Story of Ashley developed by Schmintdo, it would've been forgotten the day after release.

No Majora's alienates a large portion of players with its time limits, Wind Waker's bold art style change was a turn off to many who viewed it as being too childish. They've always done this.

Its a sandbox its filled with toys, enemies included, also while the enemy pool is limited the ai on said enemies is much more diverse than theyve ever been and variants are often more than just palette swaps. Lizolfos and Octoroks are effectively 3 different enemy types each even though they use the same models.

Its also not a collect-a-thon, you're not supposed to collect everything, the game isnt reward focused.
