So, it does look like on May 23, 2024 it should be clear and sunny in Wilmar at 9-10AM. But it's hard to tell from the archived reports I can find. And that's still 15 miles away or so.
The photos look overcast. or at least diffuse lighting, and that side of the house we see in the first photos should have been the sunny side at 9AM. Maybe the body cam viewers remember the weather.

Can someone, anyone, please explain to me why the monitors on Nick's desk in that photo would be on? He wasn't in the house when the police arrived and he wasn't allowed into the house after he did. So why would the cops turn on his streaming set up to take pictures?

He did a Locals stream (from his phone) the night before it happened. This was the stream where he did it audio-only and there was a brief period where he came on camera and appeared to have a black eye, which was later confirmed by his mug shot.

It appears he is still on the Locals chat page for that stream. It's possible he was reading the chat, but he appeared to be streaming from his phone from the short glimpse he showed on stream.

(I took this screenshot somewhere from the thread at the time, but I can't find the post now.)


Here's the image of his streaming area. If you take the image displayed on his main monitor and adjust the perspective a bit, the title and description of the Locals post seem to match this one from the night before, but it's impossible to actually read the letters. I'm actually willing to believe this was taken that morning.



It's worth noting, though, that this photo has been cropped. Look at the right side. See the scroll bar? He's zoomed in this photo before showing it on stream. Approximately the bottom 17% of this photo has been cut-off. This makes sense as the photo's aren't tall enough: pictures from iPhones have a default aspect ratio of 3:4 in portrait mode, and Nick claims an iPhone took the photos, as demonstrated by the EXIF metadata he presented for the one photo.

Here's how much has been left out of the photo he displayed on screen. I added a black bar to the bottom of the image such that the photo has the proper 3:4 aspect ratio:

In other words, not only is he showing carefully selected photos, he's only showing carefully selected portions of the carefully selected photos.

Apologies if someone already did this exercise, but I just now sent myself a photo on signal. Made sure it had full access and the image had gps and timestamp data attached.

When I downloaded it, all of that was gone. The timestamp was the download time and there was no info about the device or location. If he sent those via signal, there is simply no way they would have that data attached.

As others mentioned, it’s easy to edit. I was curious of the exact time he added would even make sense as I would have expected most of the pictures to be taken after the house was emptied, but according to the notes they were taking pictures before 9:30

What he seems to have done is taken a screenshot of the metadata as it appeared on his phone and then sent that screenshot via Signal. The fact that the metadata from the screenshot will be removed doesn't matter.

Watermarks are embedded into every piece of digital media. They do this, so I'm told, specifically because metadata is quite easy to tamper with, whereas a watermark embedded into an image or video is much harder to edit out. Techniques such as cropping are immediately evident. Are such watermarking procedures used for non-federal?

It's curious that, based on Nick's interface from his own screengrabs, this looks like a photo album timeline from iPhone or Android. As if he took the pictures himself or was sent them through DMs and saved them in his album. Would material evidence in a criminal case be passed along in this manner?
