Yea yea NPR but just chill. This isent an opinion piece and its from 2011, practically a different era in spacetime, besides all that is pertinent is the reporting of the statements of a former pentagon official.

I just come back and think about this ALOT cause most of you wont remember when this was being discussed was prior to coming election and how bad the middle east spending was got talked about by 2 groups, the people that went on later that year to start Occupy Wall Street and Alex Jones, in retrospect that was a damn ominous sign.

Republicans couldn't use it as a talking point, Bush Senior got us over there then Bush Junior got us stuck. The democratic party just kept going with the so called "Christian Imperialistic war" waged by the Bush admin in spade, Obama's admin was actually FAR more aggressive than either bush Admin in this regard so they had to act like every "insurgent" killed kept Americans safe at night or somthing.

Anyway at the time of the news from the beginning coming out about how bad the spending was overseas I remember how fucked the conversation in the mainstream media got both sides started attacking anyone who brought it up
"you want our soldiers to be hot and sweaty while they defend our freedom, you are unpatriotic, you suck, how dare you suggest our brave soldiers fighting for freedom in democracy not be treated with every care needed!"

No mention of the burn pits, or the 10 to 1 veteran suicides to combat losses or the increasingly useless VA services.

I guess all this to say when they saw we would swallow 20 billion for AC willingly I think we fully jumped the MIC shark.

I cant overstate how much money this is. Its more than TWICE what we left in Kabul in 2021. ON AIR!

I also did delayed/selective vaccination and I live in a part of the world where complete antivaxxers roam free. There's no difference between kids vaccinated on the schedule and kids not vaccinated on the schedule.

Probably what you're seeing is screens and daycare.

Daycare at least where I live isn’t really a negative. The kids don’t roam free, they have activities and recesses like school.

This goes for piercings too. If you're putting holes in your face it's to disgust other people. With the amount of instinctive anti-social behavior these people display, I'm convinced of it.

ok great, that's really awesome for you. and people where I live aren't fat. but I don't tell people "I live in the US and my neighbors are some svelte motherfuckers" when someone brings up US obesity. Daycare is mostly garbage.

Newsom has an entire museum of political albatrosses. That’s why I’ve been confident this entire time that he will never get the nomination. He’s trying really hard but a few choice interviews and speeches can’t mask his entire political career of ruining the state

I sympathize with this position, but many libertarians, (though perhaps not you since you said you just lean libertarian), want to remove all restictions on weapons, drugs, and immigration. I don't want to live in a society where a child is a heroin addict before age 10 before dying to an Amazon package delivered by a slave imported from India that is laced with anthrax, and then sold to cannibals for food. But this is the society you get if the government is totally eliminated, or everything is legalized, because there needs to be some mechanism stopping people from indulging their most evil base instincts, or only those who indulge in evil base instincts will be rewarded.

counterpoint: we're in the mess we're in because of kudzu government regulations and bovine refusal to accept personal responsibility and people need to form voluntary associations with teeth to run their own shit and stop expecting big daddy government to do it for them.

at this point we can't have ancapistan for a lot of reasons but none of them are people's evil base instincts. and it just makes no sense to believe that people have these evil instincts (which they do) and want a powerful government. if you want to get a child addicted to heroin and send anthrax around the world, you become a politician.

I think libertarianism works better as an impulse to try and minimize the role of government, rather than let it expand, than it does as a formal ruleset.

It's more that they are idealistic and have a distorted view of humanity. The Left tends to vilify humanity. Unless a strong hand (theirs of course) is there to guide and control mankind violence and destruction will result because humans are nothing more then the products of their environmental conditions and thus barely above animals.

Libertarians see the opposite view, if humans are just left to do their own thing they will come together naturally to do good things. If the Left's view of humanity is far too dour and pessimistic then the Libertarians are far too optimistic.

At their best, libertarians are the rich, successful people who can just use coke on the weekends and not get addicted, and don't get why there are rules when they can bend them constantly and come out fine. Where it really falls down is when they get into the ideology, open borders is a pretty central tenet for libertarian thought.

Hell, maybe they have a point, you get rid of welfare of all kinds and you'll be getting a different class of immigrant, but we are very far from their libertarian utopia, and what order they want to implement the pieces of it tells you a lot about how connected to reality they are and what are their real goals.

A lot of it is that they fear having to reconcile the fact they are still hated when all of the “bad whites” leave.
