A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It’s only surviving if you are absolutely retarded with money. Simple fact is they get paid very well and want more because, due to the job, they are in an issue to demand more. Because the alternative is, well you are seeing what that is.

They want more money and to keep the third person that everywhere else has long gotten rid of.

One thing keeping Britain down is people thinking that £40K is a 'good wage'. Sure it might be compared to say, Romania but then the cost of rent and bills is about 3-5 times higher in the UK. The only thing Britain really has cheaper is food but last time I was back that was not really the case. I was on about £55K before I left and since I'm not clever I had no student loan to pay but it's still not really enough to thrive.

If they didn’t the third person would be gone and they would not be losing money.
But why cut down on workforce, making it harder for the people who are still there?
I see cost-saving measures in the form of losing 'heads' in a lot of factories and each time it backfires because it's retarded.
Not to mention, if the council cut costs, does my council tax reduce? No, it increases. So fuck the council. I hope the union take them to the cleaners.

Ten years ago, I had another five or so roles in my teams to make things run smoothly. It’s been stripped back and replaced with ‘systems’ and ‘pools of dedicated support’ which means three hours a week from someone in India who will range from very helpful but has only three hours a week to utterly useless and takes more than three hours a week to fix what they fuck up.’
The last four years or so they’ve gotten rid of all the admin support and of course still gotta cut cut cut so they’ve gone for technical roles as well. And of course NONE of this work can be done easily by low paid people who see the project for three hours a week. It used to take months of training and familiarisation.
All that’s happened is the workload on everyone else has increased to insane levels and people are burning out in numbers I’ve never seen before. Quality of delivery is down the pan, and people’s health is destroyed by stress.
There’s a reason they have three to a lorry. Let them keep it. We cannot keep cutting everything to the bone because it’s technically possibly under optimal conditions. It’s inhuman.
I’m sick of being an economic unit, I’m a human being with feelings, and I want my job to be doable with the resources I have

It's been discovered (via FoI requests by charity statewatch.org) that the Government is developing something called "The Homicide Prediction Project". By using data on hundreds of thousands of people. Data provided by both the Police National Computer and straight from the Government has been used to profile people likely to commit murder in future.

The project is being headed by the MoJ's "Data Science Hub", and the Home Office. Specifically using data provided by the Greater Manchester Police and the London Metropolitan Police.

How long before it begins profiling more people, and for lesser crimes? The project dates back to January 2023.

The cutting of heads is always done by useless managers who are clueless about their role, have no interest or understanding of the job, industry and what they're doing. They cut heads because it's easy for them to say "we can sack fred and save X" rather than having the brain capacity to think "Hey, we could actually save time here, or reduce waste there that will save money".

Cutting heads always, always, always sends a company on a downward death spiral that, without intervention from someone with a fucking brain between their ears, usually signals the end of the company. Which is tragic for those who fight to keep the ship afloat, while some moron fucking dipshit sitting behind a pc is making it harder for everyone else to keep the spotlight off of their incompetence. Give me top hats.

(In context of the council, why are the bills going up but the service is worse? Notice how no politician addresses that, without some buzzword like inflation, war, ukraine, covid or whatever other dipshit excuse they use)

thinking that £40K is a 'good wage'.
It is for a job that requires little skill and no education.
But why cut down on workforce, making it harder for the people who are still there?
Cause everywhere else lacks them and does fine.
I hope the union take them to the cleaners
Hard to do that when they have no money which is the entire reason they are having to cut.
In context of the council, why are the bills going up but the service is worse
Easy. Don’t have the money to pay for better currently. They are that broke.

Cause everywhere else lacks them and does fine.
Which is why the bins are collected once every fortnight, instead of once a week?
Hard to do that when they have no money which is the entire reason they are having to cut.
Where has the money gone, when money keeps going up and if they're that broke, why is the MP sending money to pakistan for an airport and why are we spending 5.5 million on illegals if we have no money?
Easy. Don’t have the money to pay for better currently. They are that broke.
Then if they're that broke, me paying tax won't help. There's no happy ending here and the people on the ground working aren't the ones who lost the money. Why are they having their wages docked rather than the MPs being hung in the streets or their money being docked?

It is for a job that requires little skill and no education.
And getting up before 5am and traipsing around in all weathers doing lifting work.

There is a difference between difficult work and hard work. Difficult work is "how do I ensure this drug is safe" or "how do I make this software scalable". Hard work is "only three more hours of picking up heavy objects and carrying them around to go..."

Both are deserving of decent pay. Also jobs that require a lot of education also tend to be jobs that don't fuck your back and knees after 15 years of doing it.

God knows man, god knows.

But you said it. Voter base. Which will end up fucking them over because mudslimes.
Why are they having their wages docked rather than the MPs being hung in the streets or their money being docked?
Because they aren’t hanging the MPs like they should.
And getting up before 5am and traipsing around in all weathers doing lifting work.

Not saying it’s not hard work. But for what it is 40K is great.

I watched a Jasper Carrot show last night from 1981 called beat the carrot. In it he had a sketch about getting paid £300 for a one night show playing wild rover, gypsy rover and wild gypsy rover on guitar at a night club.

£300, 1 night, 1981.

That is your comparison for stagflation.

My point is he was banging my best friends sister around the time he was doing that show in Jersey and driving a lexus.

And getting up before 5am and traipsing around in all weathers doing lifting work.
Double posting because they haven't lifted (wheelie) bins since the early 90s

Yesterday I was in Sunderland, to see a show. I've never been there before.
I was followed for half an hour by group of 5-6 men, who were saying leery creepy things to me ("SexyLady", "I can be good husband", "Come with me, we can fun" etc) then speaking in whatever language they spoke.

It really threw me off, I'd memorised the Google maps route to where my accommodation was (only a few minutes walk away from the station) but them following me so closely completely made me disorientated - I went into a shopping centre as I thought that would be a safer option but realised that due to how close they were walking to me, it would have actually looked like we were all together in a group.

I ended up having to go into a tourist information place at somewhere called Winter Gardens and the bloke behind the counter was really kind and let me stay there while the lads walked on.

I'm really pissed off. I'm a middle aged, Visually Impaired woman, not particularly attractive anymore, and was dressed in baggy T shirt and tracksuit bottoms as I'd been travelling for 6 hours.

If something like this can happen to an old bugger like me, then how safe are younger women?!

Every time I hear of a new batshit story in this thread I think of this one woman I used to know who lived in the UK. I had already been introduced to the forums via a friend sending me the lolcow thread on Juan Manuel Arroyo Alcón but she was the first to really introduce me to the forum's culture. We would shoot the shit about trannies all the time which helped cement my opinions on several important issues. I learned what Greggs was because of her. She was very neurotic and that caused us to stop being friends as well as some other TMI shit but I miss her.

Hannah if you're still out there I hope you're doing well and haven't been murdered by a Muslim or something.
