A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

A rare morsel of good news and an even rarer police W.

Barbers/vape shops/nail salons/American sweet shops across the country are being raided, under suspicion of being fronts for criminal operations- something which everyone with at least one functioning brain cell has known about (or at least suspected) for years.

I would like to point out that in every article I've read covering Operation Machinize, the stock photographs used (including the one above) all depict white people- who as we all know are always the ones who operate such businesses. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting a little bit tired of being used as a scapegoat for the crimes of other ethnicities.

The thing about these raids is, that this is nothing new. For well over a decade this has been going on in plain sight, and nothing was done. So the question is 'why now?'. I'm guessing someone didn't pay their shush money, or the rozzers wanted to tap a few low level shops to show they were trying to do something. The amount of money taken is tiny though, so it will be business as usual soon.
 
Honestly? They are framing it as "muh children" and "muh disposable vapes".

The deep, nasty part of my soul says it's because white men are buying hooky baccy at a fiver a pouch, and the real reason is "muh tax revenue".

The seizure auctions after those sorts of raids are always fun. You can stock up for a year in a day, at a fraction of the price.

Us whites were the first to do it. It’s a trade for a cash business that is learnt in prison. It’s perfect to wash money and I’ve seen plenty of empty barber shops on the poorer white areas.

It was so successful nu-Britons took it up. Diversity truly is our strength.

I've not enjoyed the newer Netflix Black Mirror as much since they always add at least 20 minutes of totally pointless plot/exposition at the start for retarded Americans. The ideas remain interesting though so I'm hopeful for this new series.

This is a classical example of the target hitting corruption that occurs within institutions when higher ups push for metrics to be met without a concrete plan on how it will occur. If the whistle-blower is taken at his word, it is clear that there is pressure from on high to meet diversity targets, which are likely being pushed for political reasons. As such, this pressure is passed down to the lower rungs of the organisation, which in wanting to please their higher ups — as to acquire career advancements or bonuses — will bend the rules of the organisation to meet those targets. A comparable example is the over-issuing of tickets by traffic officers in America to meet quotas, or the overzealous enforcement of the letter of the law to meet arrest metrics.

The question of whether the favourable treatment alleged by the whistle-blower is prohibited discrimination is a clear yes. Under the Equality Act 2010, section 158 only permits positive discrimination where it is proportionate to achieving specified aims. The favourable treatment (allowing underperforming candidates from BAME backgrounds in over other candidates) is unlikely to be deemed proportionate, as caselaw states that positive discrimination ought to act as tie-breaker — wherein when two equal candidates are to be selected, the one from the underrepresented background may win out for the purpose of furthering diversity. As such, if it is proven, the police force is likely liable for direct racial discrimination under the Equality Act 2010.

The question relating to the early application window is more nuanced, as the police force allege that the early application process does not impact their likelihood of succeeding in their applications, and because they state that all applications are only considered after all others have had the ability to apply. This means that it stands in a strange grey area wherein it is up to the courts to decide whether early application windows would be proportionate to the specified aims under section 158 of the Equality Act 2010. In my personal opinion, I think it is outrageous that this is being permitted to occur in the UK and believe that there ought to be a serious inquiry into the policies implemented by government to boost diversity.

However, we live in a gay and retarded society, so I suppose we ought to suck it the fuck up and keep voting for the same monkeys jeering in Parliament.

similar to electric cars.
It's great for the enviroment , its cheaper ,etc
but now Rachael from customer services has noticed that electric cars don't contribute anywhere near as much to the DEI fund as fuel duty and now she's going to tax every last penny back via road pricing.

Absolutely not.

Electric cars need replacing more often and their manufacturing and transport costs are the same or higher. So on that alone they are worse for the environment. That Kier and co. plan to outsource our energy supplies to China and India who would burn a Lorax if it saved then a single 0.000000000001% means refuelling is also environmentally unfriendly.

Their base costs, the extra tax rate charged for them being high cost vehicles and increased insurance costs as well as the need to replace them more often and that the cost of refuelling them will sky rocket as more people have them means they are not cheaper either.

And since the government plans to make them mandatory means none of the above will be treated as a problem to be resolved.
 
I feel electric cars are one of the greatest long cons for boomers and really tap into that generational guilt complex.

There is so much happening currently, though, I don't see how the government even functions. We are about to destroy our steel industry tomorrow. Starmer is going to take the 10% of tariffs because he does not want to allow freedom of speech. Reeves has broken her financial rules A WEEK after stating them. Reform is edging toward removing Yusef. Unions are threatening nationwide strikes, the nurses are thinking about it, btw. People are out looking for blood over the rape gangs and even the liked Labour Ministers are being destroyed. Streeting, Cooper, and Rayner have been told off by the public this week.

Ah but you see, you're forgetting one simple rule, "nothing ever happens". The simple reason why it all continues to work is because no one really cares that much.

John Pye is the most reliable for such things, I've found. They don't often get seized booze, but there's a regular cadence of police auctions for a whole range of things, along with surplus stock and insolvencies.
