Some people approach greatness and experience impostor syndrome, whereas Nick was simply an impostor approaching greatness who crumbled under (very little) pressure.
"Of course I'm getting all this fame and fortune, I'm special and amazing! In fact, I don't need this boring, mainstream success! I'm so cool and charismatic that I can just do whatever I want and people will love it!"
He was of course, wrong.
