Nah that part is solid. If you have directed laser communication and someone throws a bunch of scattering material in the beampath, enough of that the signal could get reflected unto a sensor seeking to intercept it. Depending on the way the information is encoded, it is feasible that you get enough signal to noise for an intercept.
