Isn’t there also a glitch that never got patched where Shiny Origin Forme Giratina using Shadow Force will always crash the game?

I've never heard of it, but it's possible that they didn't account for shiny Giratinas at all given that the one in Arceus is shiny-locked. I wonder if they ever meant for LA to have HOME support, if so?

I have one from one from years ago, and I already had it in PLA because I'm setting my Pokedex icons to only be shinies.

lol it still crashes the game

Finally gotten started with Fire Red Remixed proper(which I will now be calling FRR for short). It's Fire Red so clearly I had to choose Charmander as my starter. I don't remember if this is something introduced in FRLG or if RSE had this as well, but Charmander actually learns Metal Claw early enough to take on Brock if you use it enough until that point, so that's what I did. Now that I got Brock taken care of, I am going to start actually using all the new Pokemon available to me.

Pokemon selection is quite good, it is pretty much what you would expect at this point in the game but from all three gens. For example, Route 102 has Rattata, Pidgey, Sentert, Hoot Hoot, Zigzagoon and Taillow. Virdian Forest meanwhile has Caterpie, Weedle, Spinarak(with Ledian presumably there as well), Wurmple and of course Pidgey and Pikachu. I assume this will be a pattern for the rest of the game going forward, I am looking forward to see what will be available in Mt. Moon. My only problem so far is that the trainers all use the same Kantionan Pokemon from FRLG instead of more varied teams, but at least they're predictable with what they send out if you still have reflex memory on what's coming up dating back from the original Gameboy titles. Physical/Special split appears to be in, so if nothing else at least I get to experience the game proper, and not with this janky archaic system the games had originally.

Speaking of Pikachu, I am planning on raising one since I was lucky enough to encounter and catch it. I know that every single Pokemon can be caught in the grass, that includes Legendaries, so theoretically you could build a team composed of all three starters + Pikachu early on like you could in Yellow, depending on where these starters are roaming. This is really making me want to play a Nuzlocke at one point in the future, this is the perfect romhack for it.

Are you talking about PLA? I've never heard of a bug like this before in any game.

Is it really that simple? You would think they would account for all shinies, even in Pokemon you were never originally supposed to encounter or are shiny locked, to prevent this exact kind of crash. Then again, it's no secret that Gamefreak has been only getting worse with their tech skills, not better. It is such a strange phenomenon that after years and years of the games being relatively stable, we're slowly going back to the games being an unplayable, borderline broken mess like the first generation infamously is. I've heard that BDSP, on top of being a shitty remake, is just flat out much more buggy and incompetently made than even the original release of Diamond and Pearl.

This was a thing in original FRLG

Correct, I just checked Bulbapedia and indeed RSE Charmander doesn't learn Metal Claw at all. Very interesting, FRLG seems to have a lot of move changes like this. In fact, there are many moves that can only be taught in FRLG instead of RSE so I will have to keep this in mind. Very good game design decision, a rarity for Gamefreak these days.

And then movesets in ORAS are an improvement over X&Y ones.
I think the counterbalance here is that Emerald has tutor moves, something that would become a standard for third versions from this point on, so you need to own both FRLG and Emerald to get access to all the movesets. In my case, I also have the Gamecube romhacks which allow exclusive moves you can never teach a Pokemon officially, as well as those moves that would only be accessible years down the line(for example, Sacred Fire on an Entei as Sacred Fire does exist in Gen 3 but was only officially learned by it in Gen 6). I definitely cannot complain about moveset variety anymore in Gen 3, hopefully when I move on to Gen 4 romhacks this trend will only continue.

Something I just noticed in FRR: When looking over the Pokemon caught there in Trigger's PC, some of them have "No Ability" instead of what they are supposed to have. In FRR everything is fine, when transferred into Trigger's PC and every other 3rd gen game, however, the effected Pokemon indeed have the cut "No Ability" ability(originally not every Pokemon was supposed to have an ability, this feature is still hardcoded into every Gen 3 game but never used). I tested GC games and Revelations Emerald, same thing when the effected Pokemon was transferred there. Doing some independent research into the matter I think the reason why this happens is because some Pokemon have a bad personality value given to them by the game. This leads to them being given no ability instead of what they are supposed to have, which I didn't even think possible. There is a simple solution and that is to simply use PkHex to assign them their default nature and override original Pokemon data, but I dunno if a Pokemon with this faulty personality is still bankable. So far, effected Pokemon include: all starters(tried several saves), Kantonian Pokemon, new Gen 2/3 Pokemon. This seems to happen at random, several of the same Pokemon caught give different results, only starters seem to have a 100% chance for a personality mismatch based on my tests. Pokemon transferred from other games or hatched from an egg seem uneffected by this so this likely stems from how this romhack(or FRLG in general) handles assigning personality values to the Pokemon you are given or catch in the wild.

BTW another observation I have is that despite FRR's main draw being a larger Pokemon encounter pool, you don't necessarily get ALL the Pokemon you would normally have in the given area. For example, Mt Moon lacks Zubat and Paras but has plenty new Pokemon like Togepi, Larvitar and Shuckle(with the normally unobtainable Berry Juice item) on top of the usual Cleafairy and Geodude. I also encountered the first new Legendary area, as Mt Moon is also where you can find wild roaming Regice. The new area is blocked off by a pool of water, so I need to wait until I get Surf at least in order to get there.

Completing the main SWSH Pokedex has hit a bit of a snag, I need to complete the Gothitelle and Reuniclus lines but their version exclusives (Gothitelle in Sword, Reuniclus in Shield) and they have a low encounter rate under one weather condition in one location in the base game with two locations more are added in the DLC . I think I'll just trade them from my Japanese Sword file where I still have the full Galar Pokédex (but not all Galar-native, IIRC I transferred any returning from Bank to fill the gaps) stored away and breed 'em in Shield.

That said it's not all bad news, I found a spare set of the base game's Legendaries in Sword so that's one less headache to deal with.
I hope Noivern, Chandelure, Ceruledge, and Zoroark all get megas.
Noivern definitely deserves one, Chandelure feels like it might be another Gengar situation if it's not handled correctly, Ceruledge feels too "new" to get one, and Zoroark has two things going against the possibility of it getting a Mega (Illusion being its main gimmick and getting a regional variant in the last Legends game).

Spiritomb and Eelektross need a mega desperately they are powercrept to death.

Spiritomb could be a mighty tombstone with high defensive power and an ability that weakens fairy type moves,
HP 75 ATK 92 def 158 spa 92 spDef158 sp 10

and Eelektross a massive, lovecraft inspired deep sea beast. Slow, but with huge offensive and solid defensive stats.

Okay, I have to share this outrageously stupid "leak".

The kid actually stuck around to answer questions for a bit and seemed to be having fun with it, but I can't get over this fucking image. It's so hilariously awful. I need to share the stupid fucking analysis I made of it or I'm going to die. Sorry about the aesthetics, my drawing tablet is still dead so I had to make this shit in MSPaint. It crunched everything to the point of being unrecognizable and I decided to double down on how bad it looked for fun.

Untitled.png

This is so hilariously awful. It is so horribly unbalanced in favor of every single negative aspect of Mega Evolution (pandering to fan favorites and already-powerful Pokémon, using the mechanic to spotlight old Pokémon to the point of overshadowing the new, KANTOOOOOOOOOO, etc.) that I can truly believe it's real and I almost want to be. It is so fucking stupid that it would be hilarious.

There's no guarantee that these are all Megas, obviously, but given the framing I'm tempted to believe that's what the leaker was going for. It wouldn't make sense for this to be about returning Hisuian mon since there's only two of those (Kleavor and, if you want to take a shot in the dark, H-Goodra), a lot of the picks actually make sense when you look at them in terms of merchandise (Piplup, Scorbunny, and Snivy heavily push merch sales as base forms but their evolutions aren't that popular, so a regional form would be a good excuse to sell more of them), fan approval (every single new mega seems factory-made to pander to fans with scant exceptions, ESPECIALLY the Alolan mons), and general marketing (starter + legendary megas seem best for that when not looking at fan favorites) that I am fully ready to laugh my ass off when, on Pokémon Day, this is the shit we get to see.

Guy also mentioned near the end of the thread that he made a "leak" that gave away all of gen 10's dex. That's what made me equally certain that this is just a kid having fun in his free time, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was fake either, but if nothing else the guy knows how to entertain. If anyone knows what gen 10 leak he's referring to, please send it my way because I'm sure it'll be just as perfectly terrible and I'd love to see it.

All the archive sites I used years ago seem to be dead ;-;
arch.b4k.dev has /vp/, it's just arch.b4k.co but they had to change the TLD after a host dropped them. (CSAM attack where the posts are left up on 4chan just long enough to be archived, then self-deleted before mods get involved, then reported en masse to the archive's host)
archive.palanq.win and archived.moe (I think) also have /vp/ archived, but don't use that last one—it's currently down and also easily the worst archive; it has the most boards but relies on external hosting from other archives for some things, has search disabled on many of them, and has an overall neutered search that's missing features like quotation marks to find exact matches.

While I'm at it, here are all the archive sites I currently use, with varying selections of boards that I'm too lazy to list:
https://archived.moe/ (largest selection, worst features)
https://old.sage.moe/
https://desuarchive.org/
https://warosu.org/
https://archiveofsins.com/ (useless, mostly porn boards)
https://archive.palanq.win/

Anyways, that base premise is pretty wonky—had me for a bit with the "zygarde is supposed to protect the balance so he sends you back to find out what made things balanced in the first place and what's changed since then" since it sounds like a neat pretext for the adventure, but it makes less sense the more you think about it. I wonder why people bother putting effort into these things for a literal 5 minutes of half-hearted fame, but I see him claiming to also be responsible for another leak so maybe he's trying to craft as much of a wide-spanning "leaker" persona as he can for attention before the next trailer pokes a hole in whatever he came up with, instead of leaving it to just 1 thread.
