It just depends on if the guy is a politisperg. which is more likely the case, in either direction.
But i can see some local asshole killing his family, then trying to for lack of better word offset the punishment by going after a local asshole who has been making waves.
Remember you don't have to wait for the local papers in the morning now. You have many number of people reporting the local news about people. I have a guy who does citizen journalism on my feed about local news. I know who broke in to the local shop 30 mins after it happens on twitter now.
