I think the most surprising thing to me is that Patty isn't pigsona non grata with his family and he actually talks to them. I know there was a lot of speculation that his family had distanced themselves from him.

That said, it is interesting that his mom's recollection had him warning 'over a year ago' and not, say, 'in December' which a) was roughly 4 months ago and b) a logical time family members would be connecting and meeting up. Probably doesn't mean anything and whenever Patty came up with this hare-brained scheme and mentioned it to his parents was whenever it happened, but it is amusing.

The other interesting thing is that you would think Patty would be squealing from the rooftops over his parents getting swatted instead of vague 'stalker child gang my family' posts. Well, they have a handful of first edition copies of In the Black (two of which are checked out, to my surprise,) and ebook copies of everything else except Starship Repo. (A lot of them are unavailable because people haven't "returned" the ebooks so they're still off the digital shelf, or however that works.) Audio for just one of the books.

So if I was stricken with a bout of insanity and decided to rent one of his books to read and perhaps review, my public library system is largely not super helpful.

I think it was at least a fringe theory, and I don't think it was fat's original plan.
