Conceptually I see no problem with this. It sounds different to the usual western game plots and explores an aspect of American folklore that is hardly ever touched upon in any media.

In practice, however, I suspect it's going to be a disaster and the main character will be an insufferable girl boss YASSS KWEENING her way through the entire game, which will be a little more than a series of hand-holding platforming sections to string together the boring dodge-dodge-attack combat encounters.

This is just the art style they're going for to go along with the style animation used. Everything has similar angular features in it. Personally I would have gone more with the Geechee style of watercolour painting for it during the day as it's nice and colourful, then switch to a more oil painting style for any night scenes. Reminds me of some Candomble art mixed with Louisiana Voodoo art.
