We have a housing crisis here, too, but it's mostly because bad government policy encourages existing property owners to buy investment properties and rent prices are insane because those investors want maximum returns. If the tax concessions were only available on new builds, it would actually increase the supply of housing for those looking to buy and help ease the out of control rental market.

The Bobs and Celestes of this world aren't locking people out of entering the property market here because they're not buying the types of properties first home buyers can afford.

That said, you're lucky to find a home (including apartments) in the greater metropolitan area with a price tag much under a million dollars here, and covid totally screwed house prices in regional areas as well. Many people will enter retirement still owing money on a mortgage and that will only get worse as the age at which people are first able to enter the property market increases. This is a global problem right now.

We might not possess sekrit April decoder rings, but why on earth would you publicly mention a need to explain your bizzaro relationship to the kids in the first place?

One reason why it's believable that happened is because of Nick's complaints about his parents not talking about their own sexual relationship with him. For some reason, he seems to think it's a healthy and desirable thing to do, even though most normal people would prefer to know as little as possible about the sex lives of their parents.
