A bit late, but I went to check out this essay and I have some cursory thoughts on one of the studies in particular. I'm no social scientist but I do have two working brain cells to rub together, so here goes:
The essay was published in 2021, but the cited papers were published between 2013-2019, and the data they were based on is a few years older than that. So we have the bulk of our data coming from a time when trans people were fewer in number and less known to the public. This is also well before more high profile incidents occurred, for example the Loudon county rapist or the Wii Spa incident (both 2021).
Out of the papers cited, I was interested in this one the most and downloaded the pdf.
In essence, the paper compared areas with "gender identity public accommodation non discrimination acts", to similar areas without, and tracked the amount of bathroom incidents before and after said laws went into effect.
Both areas had a small increase in incidents after the laws passed, but the areas that remained tranny unfriendly saw a larger spike.
The paper notes that each of the jurisdictions had different methods of record keeping and different standards with law enforcement, which means the paper's author is admittedly comparing apples to oranges. BUT, let's assume for the sake of argument that the data is completely accurate. We are comparing areas where a Hon can lurk in a restroom legally to his heart's content, to areas where that same Hon can be reported and removed. Wouldn't it follow that the tranny unfriendly areas would naturally have a higher rate of incidents?
