Don't you have a family or friends to work with in case of some sort of collapse scenario?

Sure an individual won't last, but an organized group of family or trusted friends with ammo definitely could.

To this day, I still find it amazing that nobody is willing to acknowledge that everyone who grew up in cities during the era of leaded gasoline has brain damage. Literal brain damage, and we continue to elect these people and charge them with managing the economy.

You're right about that. This is why a lot of prepping websites strongly encourage you to form bonds with your neighbors- strength in numbers, and maybe if you stand together the hillbillies will think it's not worth the risk. If the hillbillies want to risk it, the village armory will deplete at a slower rate than an individual's armory- and you can hang their bodies as a warning to others.

I think what OP is referring to is a rehash of the 2020 Summer of Love. Now that Kyle Rittensneed has been acquitted on the grounds of self-defense, it's an open question as to whether or not after the election people will shoot the other half of the nation, on the grounds of "self-defense." It's a shitty situation, but it's the one we're living in.

The average criminal does not have the foresight to buy 3-5k rounds per gun, and will very likely run out of ammo before the average prepper.
Prepping is good for well beyond the whole "THE HAPPENING!" scenarios. It is smart to have stockpiles of food, water, medicine, and ammo. Even if it is just enough to last you for a week.
This is because its far more likely that you will experience a localized collapse(natural disaster knocking out ultities for a week for example) than any world ending scenario.

Even if you do not believe that you will never experience such an event, stockpiling ammo is generally a good idea anyway.
Ammo is constantly changing in price, and can skyrocket to insane prices during a shortage. This is especially the case if you shoot something that isn't 9mm or 5.56 since the covid shortages.
