It was never about an IP issue. Known rape lolicon enthusiast Toru Nakayama originally made a design closer to Zero's MMX incarnation before settling on the whole kids in tights thing he uses almost everywhere.
Oh yeah I think I saw the OG on 4chan ages and ages ago. He looked shorter at worst iirc, but otherwise I got roughly the same impression of him as the OG design. I had it on one of my old computers but that was almost a decade ago, I think.

IMO the DIAPER SHOTA ZERO design looks like he'd have a completely different personality from the OG. He vaguely looks like a character from a NIS series with the way he's drawn and colored. I just... can't see him as Zero.

Well, the issue with Zero in general is that his personality is not consistent; it's difficult to claim he's the same character between games at times and people make up stuff like his personality changed because he killed Iris in X4 to try and explain it. IntiCreates aren't even consistent with why Omega acts the way he does (Vile here means Weil):

Suzuki: You were the one asking us the whole time, so how about we ask something to you, the Sound Team? Omega’s 3rd form words, what is he saying?

Yamada: He’s saying “I am the Messiah!”. Terrorist and anarchists often say stuff like “I am God!” or the likes, no? I wanted to give out that feeling. The words by themselves have no meaning but I think they work to express his cruelty and ferocity in a single line. By the way, what’s the setting for the personality of Omega’s 3rd form?

Yabe: The personality program (Cyber Elf) of Omega’s 3rd form was programmed by Vile as a Messiah. Well then, Omega’s 3rd form’s… Original Zero’s personality… We can’t affirm for sure that all of it is made by Vile.

Itou: We can’t deny the possibility that the original personality of Zero, made by “the scientist who tried to take over the world many times” remained in the original body and that personality has won over…

Yabe: Let’s leave that up to the users’ imaginations (laughs).

DIVE tried to patch all this up by saying Weil did all the body changes.

I definitely need to keep playing the games, then.

It doesn't help that my first exposure to this Zero was a very, very bad roleplayer of MMZ Zero who made him into a half demon. It was what fans would have called a Canon Sue.

I strongly recommend applying the relocalization ROMhacks to all of the X games. They clear up a bunch of weirdness that was introduced by poor translation.

Which games have relocalizations? Will I need to replay 1 from the beginning if I apply it?

you could always use one of the password generators for x1 and just go straight to the part you were at, with whatever you had. http://mmhp.net/Passwords/MMX1/ this site rules, it's been around since i was pretty damn young, and it has a lot of really good info about the games themselves, though there are more informative resources on gamefaqs for things like Mega Man Legends.

There's actually a second relocalization of X1 that's more recent, but I cannot recommend it on the basis that it was made by this individual:

And, well, those types have historically "touched up" their retranslations over the years when it comes to their interests.
*looks at desc*

Yup, knew it. No thank-a you, but thank you for informing me of this.

i was just talking with a friend of mine about the absolute seething hatred i have for the people who ruin the total bro relationship between x and zero. they're best friends, even though they come from different backgrounds. they would literally die for one another, or kill the other one if they truly became maverick. it's one of the closest friendships ever portrayed in a video game (i know, i'm very autistic), showing one of the best depictions of what masculine love for a brother in arms means, and it's constantly turned into uke x getting buttfucked or dreaming of getting buttfucked by zero by fujos and faggots.

I made the mistake of doing Flame Mammoth's stage first because that's what someone on GameFucks said to do. I vaguely recalled the general consensus was to do Chill Penguin first, so I'll have to do that instead.

God, I am so bad at platformers. Fuck the edge-guarding enemies.

Fuck, you really do suck at Mega Man.

Also, you sound like a 16 year old girl spending half an hour reading a menu trying to pick something to eat.

I don't want to be that guy, but the fujos kind of have a point in a meta-sense, they just make it about their gross fetishes. X1 is basically the only game with an arc that says "X is as good as or surpasses Zero."

Every other game though is made to show otherwise.

X2: The same dev who mentioned the Zero copy body thing said that the reason Zero has a triple charge is because X has a double charge. In other words, they gave him one more charge level than X to show superiority.

X3: The Mac thing. The fact that you can have X use the saber better than Zero is often dismissed as non-canon, in favor of the X6 showing.

X4: X is completely absent in Zero's side of the story. Zero shows up in X's ending, where X suddenly talks about needing Zero to kill him if he goes Maverick. Note that technically, Zero never says something like this to X.

X5: Much of the dialogue is about how much X (and almost everyone else) values Zero. The reverse is much rarer. You sure as heck don't see Zero saying X is his irreplaceable (the "my only" line X gives about Zero is a mistranslation) friend. He insults X for trying to make him go back to base.

This even extends to the sourcebooks. I cannot recall which one it was off the top of my head, but they have lines like "Zero is the most important person to X" and "Zero is the only one who understands X." But there's very little about the reverse kind of thing.

Basically, the "bro" thing is arguably just as much of an invention as what the fujos are doing. It's implying that X matters to Zero as much as the reverse, when there's really very little indication of such even in MMZ. It's extremely clear that the devs, including when others took over parts of X4, increasingly mainly cared about Zero past X1.

the entire plotline of mega man zero in my personal view was zero continuing as always to fulfill x's desire of a world where reploids and humans can live in peace. his big speech at the end of z4, even. "I have always only fought for the people I believe in." consistently, the only thing zero has ever fought for was the maverick hunters, which doesn't make much sense beyond that line if you think he didn't believe in x's ideals. why would zero continue to fight in the elf wars? why would he fight for the resistance?

none of those things are his personal ideals. zero is nothing but a reflection of what other people want him to do. it was x's dream by proxy of doctor light, as stated in the x2 ending, that reploids and humans live together. that's the goal for elysium as well in the X ending of X5 (or was it 6?), and obviously as the series progressed into ZX, they kind of get closer to x's goal of enabling them to live in harmony, which i interpret to be the purpose of the reploids gaining lifespans and humans getting enhancements like reploids, to equalize the two races. and then, sometime between zx and legends, elysium itself was founded and was apparently a perfect, but sterile, world. the master being the last genetic human and the carbons being an obvious evolution of reploids to make them 'fully human', but the creators knew that they weren't really human.

maybe that's just retarded, or some dev said that this is not true, but i'm not sure that capcom even cares about the timelines and what any poorly translated line might imply for a character in a game like X6 which was basically a rush-job in every area, from the level design to the plot and writing, and especially the translation. i think all of us here have for sure put in a hundred times the thought that anyone at capcom ever has.

increasingly mainly cared about Zero past X1.
and if i recall correctly this was always the case, inafune had to be told to design a mega man x, or to make him blue, during the development of the first game, didn't he? because he wanted zero to be favored.

Sure, except for the whole "they had to be forced by Capcom to not kill off X in a humiliating manner because he turned evil" part. Which some devs were trying to do again via the Maverick Hunter FPS series.

what is with the HATE for my boy X? he is literally a good boy who dindu nuffin. WHY do they all want to fucking throw him away for a character who is far better as a foil to x than the main character, as seen by mega man zero where he is literally an almost silent protagonist. i don't care what these retards THOUGHT they were doing. that's how i've always seen it, and that's how i'll continue to see it, same as i'm not letting their retarded alternate timelines ruin what is an otherwise very obvious and straightforward timeline.

what's known about the plot/story of maverick hunter? i've only ever seen the footage of it.

Don't look at me, I do not get it either. All I figure is that Japan likes bog-standard shonen protagonists, which is what Zero basically turns into by X4.

Dead fucking ass I was going to say this same thing.

Either a massive faggot "muh thumbs hurt, you're encouraging me and not sperging waaah" or an autistic woman.

This is why fandoms are gatekept, from fuckstains like this.

I'll quote this:

Capcom and Armature had planned out a trilogy of Maverick Hunter games that would culminate in a third game in which the player would assume control of Zero, forced to destroy a Mega Man who had grown incredibly powerful and infinitely intelligent over the course of two games.

Some people (cough Inafune cough) really, really wanted their most favorite child Zero to kill X.
