Forgive me for asking a question I already know the answer to, but what's wrong with potatoes or rice in Tex-Mex? I use potatoes all the time as a meat replacement for vegans or as a filler for those who aren't and it's great.

I must have forgotten to take my brain worm pills, because Jack's reaction to the exploding omelette maker seems... perfectly reasonable? He tried repeating the process to make sure it wasn't a fluke, he asked a customer service representative if he was doing something wrong and then he checked to see if other people were having the same problem. Short of disassembling the device and looking for manufacturing errors or design flaws, what else could he have done?

He could have read the instructions which said, "the latch is only used for transportation and storage" in other words you're not supposed to use it while cooking. Anybody who knows the first thing about cooking knows that steam builds up and needs to escape. A flimsy plastic latch is not able to hold back that kind of pressure.

He took it down because the company threatened to sue as he admitted at the start he doesn't read the instructions. And then later on did a redo where he carefully read them and the omelette came out as it was supposed to.
