Blegh. I don't want to use Now because AFAIK they pretty much crunch up the game's sound quality to make it easier to stream, as well as a bunch of other things.

@Coster I have a question: So the disk reader's screwed up on your 360, but can it still play downloaded games on it? iirc the HD collection is available on the Xbox Live marketplace, so 2, 3, and Peace Walker are all available

Edit: Woops, didn't realize someone asked this question already

So they released the artbook awhile ago and there's unused artwork of Chico.

It's amazing to think how different the direction of the game could have been than what we got.

Ha! So Chico WASN'T going to be a DANG DIRTY TRANNY like all the fan theorists thought!

On a serious note though, he looks hella badass. I'm wondering if the parasites would have had something to do with his survival and appearance. I can't imagine what a boss fight with him would be like. Probably a melee Skull, but way more of a challenge and an actual boss battle complete with health bar? I'm really hoping Kojima at least tells us what direction the game would have gone in if this Chico was in it. I remember him saying at one point that Ishmael was supposed to be Huey (Even though that sounds highly impossible), so it's possible he might give us some details.

I imagined MGSV's version of Gray Fox.

Looks a lot like Null/ Frank Jaeger/ Grey Fox from Portable Ops. Boss turned buddy or playable character would have been awesome.

Not too surprised by that design actually, under the assumption if Chico survived the end of GZ at one point in development. The villains/antiheroes of the series kind of have a thing for being former child soldiers with tragic backstories. Would've been cool to see him as an antagonist or something after getting used to him in Peace Walker, it felt like the torture tapes in GZ were kind of hinting at that.

Actually, it is almost entirely the background of Schneider from Metal Gear 1 in Metal Gear 2.

For the uninitiated, Schneider was a resistance fighter who was fighting against Outer Heaven in MG1. You would call him for information about where items in the base were, and later on, he tries to unmask Big Boss, only to be knocked unconscious by some of Outer Heaven's mercs. He's captured, but he survives.

After the fall of Outer Heaven, however, NATO bombed the complex to hell and killed the villagers who were in the resistance, since they essentially knew too much. Schneider was left without a place to go, having seen everything he ever knew and loved destroyed. He wound up being saved by Big Boss, and getting into an experimental combat unit NASA was working on courtesy of Big Boss's connections. He essentially becomes the series' first cyborg Ninja (and the first boss of MG2).

He fights Solid Snake and loses, revealing everything thereafter, because he still considered Snake a friend at the end of it all.

Also this one's for you, Kiwis:

D-WALKER'S ARMS ARE NOT BLUE

I'm actually cautiously optimistic about Metal Gear Survive. The series thrives on weird and this one looks very weird.
I'm not all that concerned about the weirdness. This series could have a biker gang of cyborg alien wizards and I would probably still love it.

What I am concerned about is Konami. They are kind of going against Kojima's wishes, which I am not surprised by. The whole game seems really shady and corporate to me, and I'm honestly not sure if I can support that.

I'm going to play Devil's advocate for Survive

Yeah, the market is saturated with open world zombie shooters at this point perhaps
but realize that none of them are running on the fox are engine, and most of them are buggy steam early access crap made by "indie" developers who bit off waaaaaay more than they can chew(ahem DayZ)

You can think of Metal Gear Survive in this context: a zombie open world shooter, but with the gameplay of the awesome fox engine, Metal Gear's aesthetic(and the Metal Gears themselves), the workmanship and work ethics of Japanese game developers(in other words, well optimized and game breaking bugs are minimal compared to American studios) and most importantly, MGSV's team; yeah Kojima is no longer on it, but this isn't a Metal Gear Solid game, it's a Metal Gear game

Also, it be kind of cool to see base building gameplay and coop using the Fox Engine as well(something I really wanted in MGSV)

Yeah, the game looks amazing, and I could tell there were some dedicated people working on this.

However, like I said before, it's mostly the business angle that turns me away from this game.

And as much as how it looks amazing and the business angle turns one away, the story is also kinda wasted because you are playing an MSF soldier. That alone could of made a good what-if scenario in how said MSF soldier tries to survive after the fall of Mother Base. What happened to surviving soldiers during the 9 year coma of Venom Snake would of been interesting, especially since all we know is that one group of MSF soldiers died against the Skulls when they were with Miller while some others were wandering around while looking like they literally seen better days.

Here's what Konami should do:
Remaster or even remake all of the past metal gear games and port them to all of the platforms; doing so will allow those who never just got into the metal gear series to experience the past games, especially mgs4, which is impossible to play without a ps3(the others can be emulated); I especially think they should remake metal gear 1 and 2(and mgs1 and mgs2) so that they can finally tie in the end of the big boss story arc and be able to experience the start of solid snake's storyline without needing to grind through some outdated game engine or shitty half baked NES game; that way they can still keep Metal Gear relevant without Kojima, and have some time to think about out where to go next while giving something the fans can Eenjoy

Remaster or even remake all of the past metal gear games
May or may not happen depending on how Konami reacts to the Pachinko bubble bursting. They may remaster and port some of the older Metal Gear games to other platforms to try and make some quick cash or they may just reboot the series entirely. Or they might just continue making spinoffs like Survive for the time being.
and port them to all of the platforms;

Will most likely happen due to the popularity of the mobile market. A lot of big time PC ports now of older games seem to be the result of the dev also porting to mobile at the same time.
especially mgs4

MGS4 is a much trickier beast because it was designed around taking advantage of the cell processor as much as physically possible.

Also MGS4 was kind of a shite game to begin with and it would only be worth porting if they also brought back it's multiplayer. Which would most likely not happen.
I especially think they should remake metal gear 1 and 2(and mgs1 and mgs2) so that they can finally tie in the end of the big boss story arc and be able to experience the start of solid snake's storyline without needing to grind through some outdated game engine or shitty half baked NES game

Will probably happen although juries still out on whether it'd be a half baked mobile port like Squeenix has done with some of it's older Final Fantasy games or a full blown MGS5-tier remake. It depends on how Konami will react to the upcoming Pachinko industry bubble bursting.

Why haven't I frequented this thread before?
I'm a major fan of the Metal Gear Solid series (despite having played only MGS1 and MGS5) and Solid Snake (also since I used him in Brawl) has got to be one of my favorite video game characters honestly. I will definitely play the others too.
Metal Gear Solid 5 was my first game and I was awestruck at how well-crafted it was. Even Metal Gear Solid 1 was just as amazing and I can see why it's considered one of the best video games of all time.

That being said, I just today beat MGS1 after managing to get free time from university studies. My favorite bosses were Sniper Wolf and Psycho Mantis, but all of the boss battles were incredibly fun. The code name I received after the credits was "Leopard" for those of you curious.
