The default state is socialism unless you have a strongman who has to dangle some commies off a helicopter to send a message and it requires active vigilance lest they go back to the default of “Bolivarianism” which is bean-flavored Marxism. The “opposition” these last several elections are all various flavors of socialism.

I guess what I’m saying is that nobody should be surprised at this outcome. The opposition leaders are Juan Guaido all over again.

At what point do average Venezuelans realize they probably outnumber the dedicated commie factions by a sizeable enough portion that any intervention by Maduro brutal enough to repress them would make it impossible for other nations to not get involved and tip the scales?

Never because the Venezuelan regime has spent 20+ years coup proofing the military, makes sure they're paid and fed before anyone else AND has the ability to call in reliable Cuban shock troops if necessary.

Venezuela gives Cuba lots of free shit, including oil.

After 2018, Maduro realized he could steal every election until death and he'd be fine. The US won't do shit as it would make him and Venezuela a martyr for every retarded Commie in S. America and give him massive legitimacy.

The protests will rage for a few days/weeks and more Venezuelans will head to the USA to shit it up.

I'd rather we go to war with commies to rid communism from our hemisphere than fight Muslims to protect Jews when both of them hate us, tbh. The reason we don't get involved is because it would be about as palatable to normies as another Vietnam War, but communism in our hemisphere poses a direct risk to us and makes things harder in general by creating the economic migration patterns we have seen. A lot of the people coming here probably would have stayed if buying bread didn't cost a full days wages due to shitty communist run economies.
